A MINI GUIDE ON CRITIQUE
Yay more words. emotion_eyebrow
But seriously this is important if you want a fast approval, no better way to do that than know what we're looking for.
First things first, don't take crits personally! No one is out to attack you here, just provide some friendly advice in case you missed something out in your profile. Some of us may come across a little more blunt than others but REALLY, NO ILL INTENTIONS. * U*b
Obvs you shouldn't be attacking anyone either yes? Don't be a douche okay. Be nice and others will naturally be nice to you too.
The best way to get critique is to exchange them with fellow questers! Or you know, if you post in thread when one of the staff are around and free as a bird, we will be more than happy to help too
When critiquing others, DO mention which parts of their quest you like too! Its always nice to hear good things and feel encouraged!
Okay now on to what we look for in a quest. You can ask yourself these questions beforehand to do a DIY check!
If your answer to most of them is No, then you should be pretty safe!
Are there any clashing personality traits?
This is a pretty common problem. Of course we're not always goody-two-shoes or forever shy, but the key is to stay realistic and have some common sense. Take for example the following traits,
Loud
Boisterous
Feisty
Meek
Its true a character can SOMETIMES be meek under certain circumstances when they're usually super noisy and loud, that's fine. But if you're always meek AND feisty at the same time..... Well, certainly won't make sense to most of us.
Do you have more than one power?
Our rules state very clearly that each rookie is to have ONLY ONE POWER. The only "extra" powers you may have should be DERIVED from the one power you have. Two completely and utterly different powers are definitely not going to get you approved any time soon. For instance,
Flying + Breathing fire
is a HUGE NO. Unless you're a dragon we might excuse you, but otherwise, is there an actual link between flying and breathing fire? We don't think so.
Breathing fire, which means I can spit fireballs too
Now this makes a little more sense amirite. There are obviously going to be a couple of boundaries that would be pushing it, like flight + wind manipulation, but we will judge those on a case-by-case basis.
The ONLY exception to this rule is when your power is kind of pathetic. Lets say for example... sneezing on demand. Or you can only turn into a lizard (not that lizards are bad, but you know what I mean). In such cases you CAN tack on something extra, like maybe flexibility, reflexes, a natural at combat, etc. But beware if you pick something like intelligence or super smart because that in itself can be an ability all of its own.
Do you have powers/origins that are off limits?
They are off limits for a good reason. Check out the READ THIS FIRST thread and scroll down. o 3ob
Does your character's background history and relations make little sense when you compare it to their other traits?
Now history and relations don't have to be fleshed out in great detail since the focus is on your character, but watch out for really obvious discrepancies, eg. sad orphan who saw his parents shot dead before his very eyes grows up happy and cheerful. Now I'm not saying this is impossible, but unless you have a novel to show us how it came to this, its not going to be very convincing.
Language and formatting, please.
Just a very small reminder. mori won't axe you for a missing comma or strange tenses, but take note it makes for much more pleasant reading when you don't confuse us. Also, tiny text kills eyes and our will to read, jsyk.
WHO DOES APPROVALS
All managers can give approval, which means you can be approved by either mori, Cheekie, Shnazz or melona-pan
And that's the end of the ramble for now! We will add more when we think of them. mori hopes you found it useful and happy questing! emotion_kirakira
