Ok, I saw that nice new "Starter kit" that basically gives me The game, and the expansions for 29.99 (which would be 36-some-odd Canadian). I'm just wondering, whats the games Culture/Player Base like? I've done alot of reading on the subject, I want to be a DRG. What should I use for a sub? How hard is it to level? How long does it take to reach level 30?

it's fun, not all that hard, leveling is simple if you are on when most people are, and you cant start as a drg you have to unlock it once you get a job, for you most likely warrior to 30 ^^

But, what DOES a Dragoon do in a party? DD most likely? DD i believe I'm a whm XD So I dont play drg much...or even have it unlocked razz though the quest is started

you start out with war/mnk till 30 thats when you can unlock any advanced jobs. DRG is a DD job but closly note if you love the job enough dont listen to other players when they try to change you or change your mind about it. Because you will hear comments like DRG is gimped, weak, usless, or just down right sucks an that you should try a different job. If you love it enough dont listen to them.
Depending on how much time you have you can get to lvl 30 in a months time once you get past the lvl 10, make sure your sub job is fully leveled as well other wise you wont get invited unless you are desperatly needed cause there is no one else.

One Eye X But, what DOES a Dragoon do in a party? DD most likely? Dragoons help with hate control as well as smacking out large amounts of damage. (mainly against flyers since polearms are piercing...) Anyways, with the hate control. The basics of the game is that you have a tank that soaks up or mainly dodges the attacks. Then there are usually two other DDs that does damage. A support job, a healer, and another damage dealer but with magics (mainly BLMs. ^^). Keeping hate is hard, especially for the NIN (dodging) compared to the PLD that can keep hate by curing himself. Dragoon's main special ability is his 3 jumps. Jump does damage. High Jump and Super Jump does damage as well, but also sheds hate. Really nifty. ^^

dragoons are DDer the best sub is most likely war or thf if you want to get into PT's but there are cases where sam sub is suitable too
when i play as dragoon i tend to throw out huge amounts amount mainly because of my my accuracy and all the jump attacks i get play into the role. you can get into partys fairly easily until 37+ or so but just because a lot of people say it isn't worth leveling... trust me it is, it is one of the most fun jobs out there in my opinion
lol, i tend to be the hate stealer all around >< no matter what after like 5-10 seconds hate returns to me when i play drg

HiroxKisa lol, i tend to be the hate stealer all around >< no matter what after like 5-10 seconds hate returns to me when i play drg the usual combo for me with drgs are drg/war, thf, nin as melees. drg accumulates hate, thf goes behind nin for a SATA, nin vokes, drg does some jumps. hate back to nin. ^^/

Drg/war is the most used combo.
Drg/sam use to be great but not so much anymore.
DD is what drgs mostly do, but as Telamond stated hate control is something they do too.
I don't know much about it, seeing how it's the only job I don't have.

How long does it take to reach level 30? I"ll just say this, playing dragoon is like playing ff11 on hard mod , but you get a wyvern. I sub war, but a lot of people say its good to go with thf. it takes a while to get to lvl 30, but you'll have fun with jump.

DRG is basically like any other Melee job, you attack, eat some meat to make your strength alittle higher, attack, do a sc, attack... etc.
FFXI takes a good amount of Patience and commitment to get good... but that's what makes you come back for more everyday. ^^

drg is by far the funnest job in the whole game because it can do a bit of everything cept nuke.....we can act as a nice back up heal (wyvern) we actualy have the highest dpb (damage per battle) and we can solo very effectivly but the 1337ist snobs that run ffxi's server (im talking bout the jerkoff with 5 lvl 75 jobs that everyone follows his orders with out a doubt) is to obsessed with the giant flashy #s of a dark knights SC or thief and the fact of the matter is an average battle last 1-2 mins with party and well i will admit we are not the best hlnm melees cause were based on regular attacks but were great at xp parties
so thats prolly why what ill do since i had to restart my char since account was hacked while i was on break confused prolly do drg till 75 then since i wont be getting hlnm groups that often ill prolly level sam or monk to 75 so i could get some kick a** gear for my drg ::cough:: hectatomb set opticle hat, gugnir ::cough:: uhg i have a cold today wink
