Kip was born to one Amethyst Triggs into the woman's own chaotic life, just after she had started to give up on it all and live as she wanted – this, of course, did little to help the child that sat at her home in need of some sort of connection from his sole provider. However, just needing something doesn't always grant one the object in question, as the rest of Kip's life would prove. He grew up in a sporadic lifestyle, though it wasn't so much of a choice for a youth of his age as he simply went wherever his mother dragged him to.. Or, rather, wherever he followed. From house to house, neighborhood to neighborhood, father to father; the only thing that seemed to be a constant for him was the woman that only gave him a glance when sober and, even then, it wasn't normally one of comfort. But, after a time, Kip couldn't really blame Amethyst anymore. Who was more at fault, after all? The long-dried up cow or the farmer still yanking at the udder in hopes of milk?

Kip had turned away from his mother and eventually spent his time out playing rather than dealing with her. His choice of game? He never enjoyed jump rope and the playground children avoided him for reasons he couldn't understand, so he went to watch what other people ousted by the normal people did for fun. That someone was a local drug dealer who didn't really mind some kid watching him – hell, he even let Kip help him out when he needed to appear clean to a cop. The boy never bothered to take what he held because, for one, he had been told explicitly against it by the dealer and, soon as a second reason, he found watching to give him an even better high. He learned that plenty of people in the neighborhood visited his new friend and saw most of them at their worst by keeping close, which could only be taken as funny to him. Even his mother seemed to partake in the inane pleasure a pill brought – a pill that Kip himself had started to bring to her doorstep as years went on.

Eventually, in his mid-teens, he decided that he enjoyed it more to give the drugs out himself and, so, he used his friend to help him learn the ropes of the dealing business. It didn't take long for him to have a small group of loyal customers, but.. territories crossed. His old friend became a business rival and the man had experience on Kip. He quickly discovered that he had no back ups or protection – his mother was half dead, his father would have nothing to do with him and, even if he would, the man really was dead, while his sister was a sorry bundle at home. That was when he met Joanna. The woman was older than him, but he didn't have trouble 'connecting' with her. Prostitute as she was, she still had a rather well known gang under her belt that weren't anything to laugh at. He stayed with her, befriended her, and soon he was assured protection while with her – so long as he took part of her business. Not that Kip minded working under his girlfriend – it wasn't the money he liked in his work, anyway.

A few years passed and Kip got into a little bit of trouble that Joanna couldn't help him out of. She recommended he hid out somewhere for a time, which he did. Who else could he go to but his sister? He stayed with the woman for a few seasons easily enough, but staying low wasn't the most entertaining of things. He sought out entertainment and found it in Eleanor Vatonage, a shy lamb that lived nearby Romane, his sister's, home. A week or more of talking to her and he decided he wouldn't mind putting her 'under his wing'. He managed to convince her to go on a trip to the city with him, where they stayed at Joanna's apartment until he could decide on what to do with her. It was originally intended to just toss her at some men, depress her a little more, and then pop some pills down her throat to bring her back up again. But, an argument with Joanna lead him to changing plans. He spiked her drinks and food for the next few days at random times, then proceeded to come on to her when she wasn't in the best state of mind.

She was later dropped off at her home and Kip went on to be a free man – well, until she told her parents and he was dragged off to court. Joanna was pregnant, though, and didn't want her child to go without a father, so she bought him a good lawyer who managed to talk his way out of any large sentence. It took a long while before any final verdict was made, but, in the end, Kip managed to walk out of charge-free. But he had two kids on his hands and a woman who was just recently being charged with murder after a gang fight. Kip wasn't dumb enough to abandon his kids along with the woman after going through such a long case as that – so, to bring as little publicity to himself as possible, he kept the kids and moved off to Nirvani Island while Joanna was forced into a prison for most definitely a long time. Eventually, a decade passed while Kip stayed on the island, reconnecting with old 'friends' and finding himself work. It wasn't the same work he was used to and he didn't really enjoy it as much as he did his dealing, but watching people waste their money on gambling and alcohol could be almost as fun. His work at his casino aside, however, Kip found himself having fun in his freetime more often than not through Eleanor LeBlanc and, now, Rune~

Ed Triggs grew up often dubbed as a shy, introverted child, although nowadays he finds himself disliking the label. Sure, the boy didn't enjoy talking much and he wasn't often found dealing with other kids, but it was really out of choice, he would preach, rather than him being afraid of contact. His father had often told him time and time again that people were stupid, slow, and didn't know left from right, so, of course, a young Ed didn't find any reason why he should waste his time with such silly people when he could be learning stuff! He didn't want to end up being viewed the same as his father viewed most of everyone, after all, so the boy was driven to become as smart as could be, even if his mother had assured him more than enough times that she would love him no matter what. ..Though, Ed knew that pretty well – it was dad he was uncertain on. But, as time went on, he became more and more aware that gaining his father's attention wasn't a good thing in the least and he learned to simply give up around the man. He never asked anything more than once and, when he became seven or so, he learned to simply not ask altogether. His mother wasn't there to protect him anymore, after all, as she had left somewhere that Kip never did explain to him. No, Ed's attention had turned onto his younger sister, Vi, whom he spent most of his childhood raising from infancy to the little girl she was now.

Outside of that, Ed continued to go to school and be a good child, studying whenever he didn't understand anything and excelling in mathematics with ease, although his literature left some to be desired. Thankfully, the teacher didn't seem to mind much that Ed was so blunt with anything fictional and shrugged it off – at least he was doing the work to the best of his abilities. Ed, who at first spent most of his time going to and from school as watching Vi was a fulltime job with Kip's neglect, found himself with more time on his hands. Going home wasn't very appealing when it was just him and his father, so he instead went off to the library to spend his time reading nonfiction and studying whatever was on the next test. Here he met Morgan, who really is the closest he would have had to a friend, outside of Rune who came over plenty of times to play poker, but the girl wasn't so much of a friend as she was work. Kip tended to take over whenever she entered the household, leaving Ed back in his room to read textbooks to Vi. In any case, Morgan didn't became very defensive with Ed's know-it-all behavior and, even if he was, they spent the majority of their time together in silence anyway. Quentin, on the other hand, who also shared their seating arrangement at the library, was less of a friend and more of just scenery than anything. ..Really, none of them were very much friends, but it was the closest Ed had at the moment and the best sort of relationship he could hope for.

When Ed graduated from school, he was expected to move on to university considering his interest in learning, but.. Ed didn't feel any reason to apply for anything. Firstly, he didn't have any specific degree he felt like specializing in and he was firm in believing he needed a goal before he did any such action. Secondly, he didn't like the idea of moving. He already knew most of everything about the island – why should he go somewhere he didn't know anything about? He liked to learn, true, but he liked knowing even more and it was just stupid to him to think it was a good idea to ever leave. So, he got a job as a roustabout at the local circus considering his fondness of the elephants there and went on to living in Nirvani Island with his sister and father.

While her older brother, Ed, had been exposed to some rather dramatic events in his short life, Vi, fortunately, hadn't. The girl was far too young to remember where they used to live, what her mother even looked like, and why Ed was so quiet whenever she asked him questions on it – the answers were beyond her as her entire world and memories consisted solely of the two older males. Ed and Kip Triggs had been her entire life and, put simply, that is all she ever knew. Even when she went out to occasionally play with other children or greet teachers and classmates at school when she begun classes, she always returned home to her brother and father's side out of loyalty and curiosity. She would spend her time watching and listening to the two, wondering why her brother would act afraid and nervous around her father and, more importantly, why her father never would look at her the same way Ed did. Now, it wasn't to say that Vi was particularly deprived - she had clothes everytime she needed them, toys, a pretty room that she kept nice and clean, and was given everything the average child needed and was expected to have. But, these facts only made her more and more confused as to why the atmosphere at home always seemed to be so strained amongst them all. She could have been satisfied with knowing Ed and her relationship was good, but it bothered the young girl to know that half of her world didn't seem to want anything to do with her and her sibling – and it still does. Every method that a ten year old could possibly know has been tried with only her brother to give her praise for – it almost annoys her, but, with her sibling's consolation, Vi has managed to stay out of trouble and continue slipping her crayon depictions of her father as a cute, fuzzy ferret to the man.
