Ahh, the Goddess Festival~ This was an important one to the Koyama women. Both Nanami and Haruka had been attending since they were small, so there were a lot of nostalgic feelings associated with it. All the people, the dancing, the crowning of the Harvest Goddess and Harvest King! It was simple, but perhaps it was the simplicity of it all that appealed to the two of them.
Although the mother and daughter duo had come together, it didn't really feel like they were a group. Nanami was her typical enthusiastic full-charge-ahead self, entering the town square with long, energetic strides. It was a lovely spring day, and as she stopped walking, she inhaled deeply. The air was so fresh this time of year, it made her feel like she was twenty years younger. The subtle ache in her joints seemed to just melt away~
Haruka, on the other hand, was less than enthusiastic. Not that she disliked the Goddess festival, she actually liked it quite a bit -- especially since she herself had never had the humiliation of winning (though, once upon a time, she had entered and secretly played with the idea of winning a date with Raiden. Not that that mattered anymore). But she had other things on her mind. She had overslept that morning, and as she shuffled after her mother, she fussed with her appearance. She held a compact mirror in one hand, and with the other smoothed down her hair and poked at her makeup. Who did she have to impress? No one, really, but she still disliked the idea of looking less than her best. She was still in the newlywed stage of sorts with Raiden, where she'd wake up a tad earlier than her boyfriend so she could brush her teeth and comb out her hair, so it would seem like she just naturally woke up that way.
She was so wrapped up in this last minute preening that she didn't even notice where she was or what her mother was doing. That's why, when Nanami stopped walking, Haruka continued, and walked straight into her. It startled her to be yanked back to earth like that, and the compact mirror fell from her hand and shattered against the hard pavement. With a long, drawn-out sigh, Haruka crouched down and picked up the cracked plastic and the broken glass. "Looks like we're here..." Why did she have a feeling that today wasn't going to go her way?
---
This was a first for Rory. He hadn't been to the Goddess Festival since Natalia still lived with him. Festivals were something that he had done with her, and going alone was still an odd feeling, even though a number of years had passed. This was the first time that he had gone to this place alone, and he was at a bit of a loss of what to do. He had come early, because he didn't have anything else to do, and ended up being one of the first ones there. He was the type who liked to arrive first at a party, but today it just felt like something was off. He stood off away from the center by himself. It wasn't until Natalia had left that he realized that she was a good distraction from uncomfortable social situations... Oh, what he would do to have an outgoing friend to focus on right now!
---
Yuri had to admit, the Goddess Festival was a little hokey. It was such a small town sort of thing to do, to celebrate a mythological figure like that. Then again, she had never understood religion. Her mother had believed in it, but she had been such a soft influence on her daughter's life, Yuri had pretty much been raised religion-free, and as such, she couldn't help but find these sort of things simple and primitive, but in a sort of nostalgic, affectionate way. It was like coming across a family that still churn their one butter, or like her neighbors in Seattle, who just had an old radio, no television or anything. She couldn't judge her neighbors for indulging in a festival like this, she could just observe them and think how cute they were. Of course, she thought like this, but at the same time, she was gunning for the Harvest Goddess title. This had been a goal of hers since she was sixteen herself, and it hadn't been hers yet. So today she was pulling out the big guns. She was twenty-three now, afterall! She was at the prime of her youth, and it was going to start going downhill soon. She wanted to win while she was still young and pretty, not when she was starting to look tired and old, like that brunette who was picking up the broken mirror pieces. Yuri then crossed her arms and stifled a yawn. She had woken up at 5 AM that morning to get ready, and as it neared evening, she could feel herself begin to get sleepy.

-Rune LeBlanc, Leon Kidd, Adelaide Wicher, & Stella Hammett-
To be honest, Rune was a little hesitant in coming by herself. It was lonely... She'd prefer the bickering to just standing there, like she was. This time she gave a helping hand with decorations and such, continuing the LeBlanc tradition, and just trying to pass the time. Eventually the girl leaned against one of the registration tables, wondering on the event. "Who's gonna win this time? Her? Him?" and so she continued, scanning over the arriving Nirvanians.
Another festival to make an appearance~ And what an interesting one it was. It was practically a beauty contest, somewhat. Leon had missed it last year due to some conflicts in schedule, which was basically dealing with his parent's divorce. Speaking of which, he had recently found out the thing was finally official. Why were they still making the headlines, he yet to understand or really care much. He had his own life here, and a festival to wander around in. Which he did, finding himself near the center while glancing around the decorations and such. "They really go all out here don't they?" It wasn't meant to anyone in particular, like say the man, Rory, near him, but he wouldn't shy away conversations!
One, two, step here, there. Adelaide hummed slightly as she gracefully made her way to the festival. When she found about it, she had instantly decided she would be here, heck she would even participate and win. That was of course until the rules were clarified and she had to deal with the reality that she was indeed to young to participate. "It wouldn't be fair to all those girls that would lose if I was in there anyways" huffed the girl. Well no one said that acceptance had to be graceful. It definitely would've been fun though... Good thing Rayne wasn't here, he'd be making fun of her all the way. On the other hand, it made for a boring entrance.
For a couple of minutes a blue-haired girl stood in the middle of the entrance with a map on her hands. Oh she had found her quite well to the festival, it was more a matter of learning the thing for tomorrow. Call it pre-job jitters or something, but Stella wanted to make sure she would start out all right in her new job. Then again, it was really simple... "It's small... so..." With that Stella flung the map over her shoulder and began to step away, before looking back at the piece of paper and promptly taking it back. Well she didn't want to get lost... and that WAS littering. Besides, what to do know... what to do? The place wasn't too crowded yet anyways.

In a rare moment, Romane and Kip had walked to the festival together with the intentions to spend time with one another as siblings should. It was hard to say who had come up with the idea and who was being dragged along, but, one thing was certain – both looked entirely disinterested as their eyes wandered off towards the crowds. Outside of their close proximity to eachother, it was near impossible to tell they weren't just coincidentally there at the same time, as was usually the case when both came to a festival at once. But, without kids or lovers to drag them out of their homes, it was fairly easier to accept that it was more likely they were together. Romane continued to force herself not to cross her arms uncomfortably as she stole a look towards her brother from the corner of her eyes, her frown persisting and allowing Kip in on the fact that she was out of place. He mentally shrugged off the thought, not too concerned on it – for one, he wasn't close enough to Romane to care and, secondly, she always looked nervous no matter what happened. It wasn't anything new and was actually pretty boring, to say the least, but he hadn't expected her to entertain him any. He hadn't spoken to her much lately and, call it what one would, he didn't like how she seemed more involved in her family than even work.
So, he had suggested they come to the festival together that night. They both didn't have work, he knew that Neil was busy, and they both had teenage boys who could babysit their little girls. She didn't have an excuse to deny him and, even if she did, they would have went anyway. He lit up a cigarette, “You'd think we were strangers..” He said around the cancer-stick, holding up the open carton to her in offering. She didn't move to take one and, after a few seconds of waiting, he shrugged and pocketed the container. “Lighten up, Giz.” He blew out a puff of smoke and, the cigarette fitted neatly between his fingers so he could speak more comfortably, he motioned towards a long table to one end of the square, where the refreshments were laid out. “Go get something to drink other than coffee – you look pale.”
When she was younger, Romane may have taken that with some kind of warmth, but she knew he was getting rid of her for the night. He probably found this situation just as awkward as she did, so, to benefit them both, she nodded and left without a comment. Kip would stay standing there, always content to smoke and watch people without the hassle of small children to pester him. The popularity contest this festival boasted wasn't a big deal to him – though he had signed up, if only to get his sister to sign up too. Putting her on edge over something as miniscule as that was somewhat entertaining – enough to warrant a small smile out of him. But, that wouldn't last long if that was all he had to do – playing poker with Ed would have been a better way to spend his time if so.
Speaking of 'better ways to spend time', Romane had a similar thought process as she looked at the table she had wandered over to. She could be doing any number of things that night. Neil wasn't home to spend time with, but she had Mimi and Julian to lecture before it was too late, she was sure there was some work she could be doing – though, ever since they had had their new mayor and Romane was in complete charge of the police station, there had been little work for her to busy herself with.. It made her happy, yes, but, like her brother, she was bored. She didn't really understand why so many women could be busy being housewives their entire day – she managed to get everything her children and husband needed done within forty-five minutes! Perhaps she should get another dog? Korth and Mauser had taken a great deal of time being trained when they were young.. but she didn't have the room for a dog, did she? Not to mention Catrina was afraid of them. Any other animal would either be eaten or 'freed' by her sister-in-law too, now that she honestly considered it.. Then there was the fact that an animal wouldn't make her any more happy. She breathed out a sigh and looked over the crowd again, at a lost for what to do.

A festival~! Kade had yet to miss a Goddess Festival in the last ten years and, certainly, he wasn't going to now! He wasn't participating as Kathie, but, well, ever since he had won all those years ago, he hadn't had the urge to prove anything anymore. Besides, he didn't want to make Junior anymore awkward about him than he already was by donning a skirt and skipping around again! He hardly missed it anyway – it just reminded him of more immature, stupid days – days of youth! With the man pushing through his thirties, Kade wasn't a young kid anymore and didn't have the same excuses he once did, so it was only expected that he come wearing his regular clothes. His hair was still absolutely gorgeous, though, and he was certain he had a nicer butt than any of the women around, so he didn't feel as though he was losing anything by not showing it off. He was all a-smile as he looked over the festival, wondering which girl he should talk to first and maybe entrance into going to his salon later~ He knew they had a nice slew of women, but one can never beautify enough girls! He was just looking around when he spotted his own favorite stylist on.. the ground? “Ah!” He slapped a hand over his mouth and scurried over to where Haruka knelt, “What happened, honey?” He asked as he hovered beside her, looking at the glass warily – should he..? He didn't want to catch it!
And he wasn't the only one to think so, either, as Talna had somehow managed to approach them without alerting Kade one bit. It wasn't until her voice reached his ears that he gave a little jump. “Oh, my..” The farmer's housewife gave with a mix of fear and worry coloring her eyes, Kade straightening up after his shock when he realized she was thinking the same thing as him. They met eyes for a split second before turning their stare onto Haruka, “Seven years bad luck!” Talna and Kade spoke in unison, both shaking their heads with a hand to their cheeks. “If'n yer needin' any help, Haruka, I'll be here for ya.” Talna said as she set a hand to Haruka's shoulder gently, Kade grabbing his employee by the shoulder to guide her up so they were all at eye-level. “Don't worry, honey – if anything happens.. you know, with you and Raiden, you can stay with me. I have an extra room and the rabbits would love a new playmate!”

AmandaHopeO'Ballivan • TateMichaelO'Ballivan • BrodyKyleO'Ballivan • ColeJoshO'Ballivan This was the first festival that the O'Ballivan family had brought any extended family to, and they were determined to be more social then normal. For Amanda and Brody this wouldn't be a problem because they were the social one of the bunch. At least Tate and Cole were charming enough that if anyone started a conversation with them, they would in turn speak back. It was part of the appeal of country boys, they had manners drilled into them since birth and that just made them oh so appealing. ♥ As the family wondered towards town, Brody riding on his Uncle's shoulders and Amanda and Tate walking into town hand in hand, they saw a bit of a commotion going on and hoped all was well. The group meandered towards the table set up to vote for the Harvest King and Queen for that year, everyone picking who they felt would be a cute couple. Since this was a bit of a popularity contest between Islanders, Amanda had tried to dress all in her family well that day. It worked half in her favor and half not. The boys all looked rather dapper in pressed jeans and plaid shirts - plus of course hats and boots. The looked like they had just stepped off the range land and it worked for all of them. Including of course the youngest O'Ballivan man, Brody! She then of course had to go with that they had and she had pulled some ripped jeans - since it was still too cold for shorts - her favorite cowboy boots and a girlier plaid top. Although she didn't have a hat, she had paired her entire outfit with the lovely necklace she had gotten from the Stocking Festival that past year. It was her new favorite and had earned her a compliment or two!• • • Harvest King - Tate O'Ballivan Harvest Queen - Amanda O'Ballivan✿♞⚓☆

Ah, the Goddess Festival... Just another competition for June to win every year. Well, normally he wouldn't join, this usually wasn't his kind of thing, however this year he seemed to have found a decent enough reason to enter. Maybe not the best reason, but it was a reason. Years of Yuri mentioning to him how mediocre or unattractive he was has started to fuel a certain competitive rage inside of June, leading him to believe that it was his year to win. And if his whiny little friend happened to win as well, that was just extra bragging rights. And while in reality he might not be the winner of the festival, in his mind, there aren't even any other entries. Though, that didn't mean that the blonde tuned out the people who were there. Especially his oh so best friend, Maverick, who had decided to join him. "It's nice to see you sober and awake during the day," June commented as he strolled around the grounds, a bit content in the fact that his friend was actually making coherent sentences. Though, even just a simple phrase was better than the red heads usual drunken sayings. "Unfortunately it doesn't feel too nice," Mac replied with a sigh. Really, the usual hang over was beginning to be missed. If it wasn't for June keeping him at home last night... Well the red head might have still been drunk to this moment. He smiled at the thought. Maverick always loved a fun time, even more so with a drink, however he felt that right now was no fun, and even worse, with no drink. And with that, his grin shrunk to a small frown. "Why'd you have to drag me out?" The man complained to his blonde friend with obvious annoyance. Yet, he knew he wouldn't get a response. June wasn't know for his conversation skills, or his ability to explain his choices. So, Mac just sighed and scanned around the area. Some beautful women had made their ways here, and that was certainly a plus. Although, it was a popularity contest, so it was no surprise. There were older ones, younger ones, younger ones still, and ones just at his age. All of them just as attractive as the last... And all of them in needing of the red head. "Though I guess I can't complain," He spoke in a wicked tone that June knew too well. But, Maverick couldn't help it, even the men were good looking. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Towards the edge of the event, Levi was enjoying sitting around in the company of many passing by people. He didn't really know why he came, but didn't regret doing so. The dark haired man always liked a reason just to get around town, but those reasons were far and few. Festivals filled the requirements rather well though. However, Levi just couldn't seem to fit in. He managed to chat with people here and there, but a latent awkwardness had begun to develop in him. He found it harder and harder to converse with the people around him. Maybe it was the appearance of his little brother, the boy always seemed to dominate the conversations. Perhaps that was the reason why Levi was so nervous when it came to conversations now a days. Or, maybe it was the date he went on a season ago... It was hard to tell at this point. The man could only just barely make out that faint anxiety that came with sitting alone during the festival. He wanted to find someone to at least shoot the breeze with... But, with a quick look around, Levi sighed, discarding the idea completely. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Towards the heart of the action, signing herself up, was the vivacious and lovely Ether. Now, this was definitely a place this dynamo wouldn't be caught dead in. However, things were getting stressful at home with the runts running around, so the woman needed a bit of a pick-me-up. And, nothing says 'feel better' like a good 'your the fairest in town.' Of course, the red head already knew she was by far the most benevolent and beautiful in town... However, it didn't hut to be reminded. After she finished registering, Ether walked off to a nearby ledge and leaned herself on it. She pulled a small mirror from the purse she hand strung over her shoulders and began to exam herself. This was something she rarely did. The woman never considered this town deserving of her when she dressed up, however today she decided to pamper herself. Even where a smidgen of make-up over her genuinely perfect face. It felt a bit awkward... Yet, the woman felt it was necessary. She was confident sure, but that didn't mean that other goddesses like her didn't exist. Though, if one did, they'd be hearing from Miss Salvador. Harvest King: June King Harvest Goddess: Ether Salvador

Haruka let out a small sigh as she picked up the shards of glass and plastic and gingerly placed them in her cupped hand. Her mother, it seemed, had no interest in helping. Well, it was just a bit of bad luck, nothing to complain or cry about. She was scanning the pavement for any pieces she may have missed, when a familiar voice caught her attention. "Nothing, I'm fine..." Her voice trailed off when she glanced up and saw both Kade and Talna peering down at her. The two of them together, both with similar expressions! That wasn't a combination she would have expected. Careful not to let the broken pieces of her mirror fall or cut her hand, Haruka let herself get pulled up by her boss, and once she was straight up, she furrowed her eyebrows at them. "What are you two talking about? It's just a compact, no big deal..." But the more she looked at them, the more uneasy she felt. "It's just a superstition, nothing to worry about..."
"You never know, Haruka," Nanami stepped in, finally, smiling at her daughter. "This could be the start of something." She glanced over at the other two, enjoying her teasing quite a bit. "You did drop the mirror in the first place, that's some pretty crummy luck right there."
"...I bumped into you," Haruka flashed her mother an exasperated look. Then, she dumped the pieces of glass into Nanami's open hand, and brushed her hands off. "That was your fau--ow!" she inhaled sharply as she looked at her hands. There must have been a small shard of glass stuck to her hand, and she didn't notice until she had rubbed her hands together and it was too late. She stared at the pinprick of blood on her palm and straightened up suddenly. "Thanks for the concern, but I'll be fine. Raiden and I will be fine. It's just a superstition, right?" But the tightness in her voice meant that some part of her was beginning to contemplate the idea of seven years of bad luck. How awful would that be?
---
Rory scanned the crowd that was beginning to form, searching for a familiar face. The problem with spending so much time holed up in his museum was that he didn't mean very many people! You'd think that in over a decade, he'd know more people, but it was moments like these that reflected how few individuals he was familiar with. Well, there was Levi, and he considered going over to speak to the young man, but someone spoke and it caught his attention. He looked over at Leon curiously. Was he speaking to him? It didn't seem like it, but who else would he be talking to? There wasn't anyone else around! "It is something, isn't it?" he replied. Even if this man wasn't speaking to him directly, there wasn't anything wrong with answering, right? That's how you made friends! "They really do put the most into their festivities here." He broke into a smile as he shifted his weight so he was facing Leon more.

Just as Kip was discovering how dull this entire event was, he spotted something that had the potential to turn his mood back up into it's usual enjoyment – a bobbing head of white as a young girl walked through the crowds. Alone, distracted, but still bored – his daughter. Rune. His lips turned up at the edges and he watched her for a few moments, admiring what he could produce – her mind wasn't very keen, of course, but she did look just as superior as something Kip did halfheartedly should. She stuck out among the crowd and, if Kip hadn't know their relationship, he would have happily targeted her, like he had targeted her mother. But, those thoughts were for another day. Instead, preferring not to appear some lonely, old man drooling over young meat, Kip puffed the last of his cigarette away and dropped it to the ground, crushing it with the heel of his foot before he headed forward towards the girl. “Hey, Rune.” He called when he was within earshot, grinning at her in a friendly manner, “You here alone? Thought there'd be a date or four on you for something like this.” He teased lightly as he stole a look around her – Ellie wasn't following after her..? It wouldn't be abnormal for the woman not to come out with her daughter, though – Rune was an adult now.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
In moments of misery, as it felt for Romane, the best way to alleviate it was to look for someone who could share the same feeling and perhaps understand it enough to take pity. Romane didn't like pity very much, but if her approaching an equally as awkward person would perhaps make this situation go smoother, she wasn't going to pass up the opportunity. She was well beyond her anti-social days and completely in acceptance that social interaction was as necessary as it was hard – but, she had done harder things. So, the woman didn't waste much time in approaching a man sitting by himself, looking at the crowd with a defeated sigh. Her target, Levi Abbel, was aged at approximately twenty-five years of age and worked as the local fisherman. He was fairly new to the island – newer than she was, at least – and did not appear to have a very astounding criminal record. A few complaints here and there, but all of which were harmless and seemed to fit under the category of schoolboy pranks than anything. All in all, Levi appeared to be the most appropriate individual to communicate with at that time.
She sat down next to him, being certain to keep a foot between them so as not to alarm him too much to her presence. “Good evening, Mr. Abbel. I am Sheriff Murrow. I presume you should begin this interaction with informing me of your interests so I can possibly learn of one that concurs with one of my own.” ..Accepting that she wanted friends was one thing, learning any tact in making them was something she had yet to figure out.

Kade sighed while Talna shook her head at Haruka's foolishness – youth! They were always so naïve! While the salon owner and housewife had little in common, they both shared a superstitious streak that rivaled most in the town – and a maternal feel for young women like Haruka! Talna had always been a little worried over Haruka, what with how she was living with a man she wasn't even married to, but she had turned a blind eye to it because, well, times were changing! There wasn't much she could do about such behavior outside of teach her little girls not to take part of it. But, with a broken mirror? She could already see Haruka's life going up in flames! The Goddess always started small like this before giving some horrible punishments – oh, she could see the fairies already devising their plans!
“Ya should listen ta yer ma, Haruka!” Talna said sternly as she nodded to what Nanami had to say, pleased that the mother understood how serious this situation was. Then it was just Haruka being foolish that was the problem. Feeling more confident with Nanami backing her up, she set her hands to her hips, “Ya – Oh, my!” Her words were cut off as she gasped along with Kade, seeing the blood form on the girl's finger. Kade reacted faster than her, though, as the man hurried forward to grab Haruka's hand and inspect it with a pale complexion – blood.. Oh, God, blood. He felt nauseous as he held his hand out to Talna, who handed him a handkerchief automatically. While he dabbed at her finger and went to wrapping it up so no one had to see the disturbing fluid, Talna continued on what she was trying to say earlier, shaking her head at the girl, “Ya need ta get ta praying ta the Goddess now less ya end up deader than last night's chicken, lass!”
Kade wasn't particularly a part of the island's faith, but he couldn't help but agree with Talna, “Of course you and Raiden are going to be fine.. if you're careful! I know superstitions can sound silly, honey, but, we have to look at the facts here! It's the Goddess festival – a holy day for Nirvani! And here you are, breaking mirrors and hurting yourself! That can't mean nothing!” He finished tying the white handkerchief around her finger, doing the best one can do without a band-aid. Ahh, he really shouldn't have stopped carrying those around! He would have to go make a note to pick some up later. “...Maybe you should stay with me for a bit – just until this blows over. Seven years isn't that long, you know!” He added cheerfully. The company would be nice too and he did miss having someone to baby outside of his rabbits~! Plus, it would be in Haruka's best interest!
