I guess I should start from the beginning. It was a really long time ago when a small city had been created. The small city was made by a 25 year-old man who went by Augustus. You see, Augustus was a human mage. Way back then, being a mage was a legit job. Augustus saw the opportunity to make a city and so he did. He named the city after his surname, Anavio. After about 3 years, the city grew and it thrived. It had many people who were also mages and specialized in other jobs, as well as normal humans. They lived together in harmony and peace. Crime was rare, for there was no such thing as 'pure evil' around this time; there was no greed, jealousy, hate, murder; no one had bothered to do anything terribly malicious to cause this.
There was this alchemist, Henry Sybaris, who moved to Anavio City with his brother, 4 years after it was built. He has traveled far and wide, trying to find the philosopher's stone, but to no avail. Well, until he stumbled upon this man, dressed in a black cloak. Henry couldn't see the man's face and he didn't even get a name but it didn't matter because the man-dressed-in-black gave Henry something. "A formula for all your hopes and desires," Said the man-dressed-in-black. Henry went back to Anavio, to his home, and told his friends about this formula. So, they all began working on this "formula for all your hopes and desires."
The people that worked on the formula: Augustus Anavio, Henry Sybaris, Louis Sybaris, Alfonse Le Blanc, Damien Le Blanc, Ludwig Rosenberg, Ryuu Yamamoto, Jiro Yamamoto, Kenji Yamamoto, Shinji Yamamoto, Sosuke Yamamoto, Gou Yamamoto, Taichi Yamamoto.
In order to create this "thing", they needed various items and people with certain specialties.
The formula didn't need much. Just 3 souls.
One of a sweet woman, one of an innocent child, and one of a hardworking man.
And in order to obtain these souls, they had to kill the 3 selected people, and lay their bodies on an Orichalcos drawn with blood.
They were to capture the 3 human's souls and contain them in a jar made of the ancient and powerful Gaia Stone; the stone of the Earth, which has magical Earth abilities.
Once the souls were contained, they were to collect various magical stones.
• Amethyst {Influences the mind, desires, and dreams. Stone of sleep and dreams, it stimulates the imagination. Increases spiritual power. Air elemental.}
• Charoite {Rare stone that is a powerful source of transformation. Enhances memories. Air elemental.}
• Garnet {Stone of passion and courage. Draws out raw, untamed, magic powers. Provides prosperity. Helps you establish a connection between Earth and Heaven. Fire elemental.}
• Rose quart {Stone of love and desires. Water elemental.}
• Onyx {Can cause nightmares, destroy relationships. Earth elemental.}
• Aventurine {Used for drawing money, prosperity, protection, stability, fertility, health and independence. Earth elemental.}
• Titantie {Brings knowledge of times past and how that ancient wisdom can be applied in our modern world. Earth elemental.}
These stones were then to be aligned with a mandala circle drawn in blood. The jar containing the 3 souls were to be placed in the middle of the circle.
The 13 men finished all the steps above in about 3 months. For the last step, they joined hands, encircled the mandala and chanted a Latin incantation.
While the men chanted the spell, the stones and jar of souls began to levitate, and then they began to spin furiously. In a bright, blinding flash of light, the stones and souls combined into one another, creating the machine.
When the men first saw it, they were almost paralyzed from the magical energy emanating from the item. The machine began to float back down to the ground while the men recovered, in awe of its complex and intricate design and shape.
They weren't completely sure of what the machine was capable of. So Shinji Yamamoto volunteered to test it out. When he picked up the machine, his soul and mind was taken to another realm. The realm contained nothing but darkness for what seemed like miles and miles. The man looked down at the thing in his hands and he began to have visions. The visions were of his dreams and desires; if they all became a reality. He saw himself with tons of gold, ruler of many countries, and the most powerful mage of all. After he saw his deepest desires, his mind and soul returned to the Living Realm. Shinji was in awe. Not only that, he wanted more. He wanted his desires and dreams to be a true reality. Shinji told the others what he saw and Augustus hypothesized that the machine can show people their deepest and truest desires. Henry hypothesized that the machine could give anyone anything they want.
Henry had to literally pry the machine from Shinji's hands, so he could test the thing out for himself. He wished up for a goat, and the machine glowed for a brief moment before a goat suddenly materialized out of nowhere before the man. The other men took the machine and wished up for things too: money, food, spell books, weapons. And like the goat, these items materialized from nothingness. The 13 men were fascinated by this machine that they have created.
Augustus, being the city's founder, and I guess you would say, governor, took responsibility of the machine and took it to his home, stashing it safely in his safe. Of course, some of the men did not approve of this; they didn’t want him to keep it all to himself.
Henry, being the one that found the formula, was upset as well. He wanted the machine all to himself, being that he thought he deserved it, for he was the one that retrieved it from the mysterious man.
The next day, they decided it should be best to name the machine. Sosuke suggested 'Tengoku.' For it meant heaven and it is said that once you get to heaven, you are given everything you ever wanted. The others agreed to this but what they couldn't agree was who would keep it.
Augustus wanted the Tengoku to be for everyone in the city, only using it when necessary.
Taichi Yamamoto thought it'd be best to keep the machine to themselves, because so far, they’re the only ones who knows about and they’re the ones who had to do the hard work to create it.
Henry Sybaris wanted it for himself, since he was the one who found it.
They bickered all night, until Augustus decided that they should get some rest and that the next day, some of the men will be heading off in an attempt to find any new information about this machine.
So the next morning, Sosuke Yamamoto, Louis Sybaris, Alfonse Le Blanc, and Kenji Yamamoto set off to find any information about the Tengoku.
After about 4 long months of traveling around, going into every library and archive available, the men came back with a few books and scrolls concerning the item. They were eager to tell the other men about the item, but when they inched closer to home, they got a feeling to impending doom.
And right they were. The whole city was in complete and total pandemonium.
*flashback*
A month after the quartet began their journey, someone had stolen the Tengoku from Augustus’ home.
He was furious that someone would break into his house, and he suspected it might be one of the men. He immediately went to Henry Sybaris' home, accusing him of doing the misdeed. Henry Sybaris was angered by the accusation, because he didn't do it. After a thorough search of the Sybaris house, Augustus found that he was telling the truth. If he didn't do it, then who did?
The following day, Augustus called for a meeting with the other 8 men. He explained the situation and told the men to fess up now and return the machine now before there are any dire consequences. Augustus gave the men 2 weeks to fess up. When none of them confessed after two weeks, Augustus was forced to command his military men to search all the homes of the 8 men, even the 4 that were not there.
Augustus found the machine hidden in Shinji Yamamoto’s house. He took the machine away and hid it away in his basement, using a protective sealing spell on it so no one could steal it again.
Shinji was furious, and with greed taking over his very being, he wanted, needed that machine. Shinji, as well as one of his brothers, Jiro, made an alliance with Henry.
The trio confronted Augustus a week after the whole ordeal; saying that the machine rightfully belonged to Henry because he was the founder of the formula and the one that figured out that the machine could materialize anything they want from nothingness. But of course, Augustus refused, saying that all 13 men made the thing together and it was not right to just hand over something so powerful to one person. The men began bickering and soon the bickering turned into fighting. Eventually, the fight was dispatched by some fellow citizens.
The alliance was furious and they wanted the machine so very badly. The trio began to plan something, something terrible, in hopes that it will give them the Tengoku. After 3 weeks of careful planning, the trio was prepared to put their plan into action.
The trio told the whole city of what the 13 men have been up to. They pinned the blame on Augustus, saying that the was the one who wanted to keep the powerful machine all to himself and he was the one who wanted to make it and that he killed the 3 innocent people just to make it for himself.
Of course, this sent the citizens of Anavio reeling in anger and shock. The citizens were angry at Augustus, saying how he could kill innocent people just for a machine and how cruel he was and that he should be banished from the city and the land forever. Augustus tried to explain the truth to the citizens, but it was difficult when you had 3 other people testifying against you. Augustus said that he will be sharing the Tengoku with the citizens, but that was not what the citizens cared about. They didn’t even know what the machine did; they haven’t even caught a glimpse of it yet. What they did care about though, was that 3 innocent people were killed. And that was murder, and it was the second crime to ever be committed in this no-longer-peaceful city. (The first was theft, committed by Shinji Yamamoto.)
A few days after this, the city held a trial for the execution of Augustus Anavio. The trial went on for about 3 weeks. It was enduring and Augustus tried his very best to convince the citizens that it wasn’t all him. The other men that were not against him testified as well, agreeing that they were in it too. Not only them, but the trio that began this mess and the quartet that was out on their journey.
In a last and futile attempt to calm the citizens down, Augustus retrieved the Tengoku from his home and showed it to everyone. They were in awe at how beautiful it looked. He showed them what the machine was capable of and wished up a cow. Like the goat and other items from before, the cow materialized out of thin air, appearing right in front of him. He then wished up gold, and the gold appeared in front of him as well. He gave out some of the gold and some people thought that this was all a fake, a hoax. But when they tried out the gold, they found that it was real. Augustus explained to them what it can do and this got the citizens all riled up.
It was something. But Ludwig Rosenberg couldn’t put his finger on it. Maybe it was the powers of the machine or the immense magical energy it was giving out, but when Augustus pulled out the machine and demonstrated it to the citizens, there seemed to be something gleaming in their eyes. Greed? Power hunger? Jealousy? Whatever it was, it wasn’t good.
*flashback over*
When the quartet returned, the entire city was in complete and total chaos. Half of the city was covered in flames, people were screaming and fighting each other and bodies littered the ground. The four entered the city and tried to find Augustus, or any one of the 13 men. When the quartet couldn’t find any of the other men, they attempted to calm everyone down. Kenji and Alfonse quieted the flames by using water elemental magic, while Sosuke and Louis gathered the raging citizens. They ordered everyone to go back to their homes while they tried to figure out what’s going on. The citizens were less than cooperative and it took a lot of persuading to get all citizens inside their respected homes. The quartet tended to the people that were injured and even had to count the dead bodies that were on the ground.
The quartet then began to search the chaotic city for Augustus and the other men. They could not find Henry, Jiro, or Shinji. But they eventually found the other men: Ludwig, Damien, Ryuu, Gou, Taichi, and Augustus. The quartet explained to the other men what they found out about the Tengoku.
They rifled through every magical city and library; searching for each and every artifact, book, and scroll, that they can find that had something to do with a machine that can materialize something out of nothing. Their plan was to use the machine to create from evil being to materialize on Earth. However, angels of Heaven took what was rightfully theirs, and with that, they dismantled the machine, forever destroying it. Or they thought they did. Turns out, those of Hell were able to make a formula for an exact copy of the machine. Although, their version of the machine was completely different. Theirs can sense the true desire(s) of an individual and make them come true; it can also materialize anything out of nothing as long as someone wishes it up; and the most important, is that it can dissolve all boundaries of all realms, making that every single being from every single realm all exist into one realm.
