This is a RP between Lestari [Tasinei] and Bao [Lilbabe] Please do not post.

Setting:

Boa goes to Kandi and meets someone who enjoys candy just as much as her.

Lestari's morning started early, she'd get up and get ready for work, all the while making sure a few chores were done before she headed out for work. Most people dreaded going to work, but not Les. Who could hate a job where you made candy all the time? A job, where she could just reach over and grab something sweet to stuff into her mouth. Plus, it gave her a reason to get out of the house, away from her mother and all those rules Sinta was trying to drill into her. Now with Sara also giving her free time, Lestari felt like she was living quite the life now.

She got to the shop and went out back where she would need to unlock the door for the second employee who was scheduled to come in and help her. Together they would make all the required candies for the day, sometimes special orders were on their list and Lestari would take care of those. As they progressed along the morning, a cashier would come in and take care of the front of the house, prepping for the day. Usually, Les was done her list with a couple of hours to spare which she spent helping out the cashier when it got busy. Mostly however, she filled the small orders for coffee or other drinks. Today, she decided to take her break a little later than usual, Les grabbed a bag and went around with a pair of thongs to pick out the candy she wanted to eat on break. Once the bag was full, she went for a table in the corner and relaxed.

A slow day was just what she needed.

Bao had just had a satisfying but small meal at home. Apparently one of the new cooks that they hired had burned a good amount of the food they were supposed to eat. So most of it was quite inedible or just too disgusting to chew, much less swallow. In an attempt to fill the rest of her stomach with something even more delicious, she had left home to go to Kandi. It was a shop that supposedly sold lots of amazing candies. She was excited to try it and glad of the freedom she had gained ever since she started going to the academy.

Bao wandered about until she finally found the shop. Excited, she entered the shop, poking her head in first. "Hello." She smiled at the first person that she saw. It was a female lunarian with some really nice clothing. A glint came into Bao's eyes as she studied the clothing. Her bossy nature slipped out on the next words she spoke. "Excuse me, could I get a table and a menu...if you have one, please." The please sounded almost like an after thought, as if she had not planned to say it. The aromas the swirled around the shop made her take a deep breath. It smelled like coffee and sugary sweets.

Stretching out on a chair, Lestari quietly watched the other patrons mingle as she stuffed more and more candy into her mouth. Probably half the other teens in the place were nobles, and the few adults were buying for their noble children. Those two reasons were probably the only reasons she'd been allowed to work at Khandi, another ploy from her mother to her her to mingle with the nobles.

Lestari leaned back in her chair and tore off a piece of the strawberry licorice she had in hand. When the orange girl came in, she gave her a small over look, before going back to the rest of the patrons in the store. It wasn't until the girl actually approached her that Lestari got a full view of her, expensive clothing with an air that shouted noblewoman. Les starred at her. “Hi.”The girls next words only made Lestari stare at her harder, was this girl seriously asking her what she just asked her? From the corner of her eye, the blue Lunarians's boss watched quietly. Sighing loudly, Lestari pulled herself up slowly from her chair, honestly she was on break she shouldn't have to get up and serve the girl. “Sure, why don't you grab this table here? I'll grab you a menu and go back on break after.” Dear lord she hated working, Les whined inwardly as she made her way to the counter and grabbed a menu from the girl. She'd completely forgotten her own bag of candy on the table, so when she finally made it back to hand the girl her menu, she grabbed up the bag quickly.

“Here you go.”

Bao accepted the table with a nod and a smile. Clearly the girl did not want to help her but she did all the same. As she should, Bao thought to herself. After all, she was a noble and shouldn't have to wait for a worker to get off of their break to be helped. She definitely did not like waiting at all. Her servants never left her waiting when she asked for something. That was why she treated them so well. She'd have to remember to leave this particular worker an extra large tip for helping her while on break.

Bao sat in the chair with her back completely straight, no slouching. Her father had her learn good posture, so she only really slouched when by herself or if she got too comfortable. She took the menu with a small smile and a flirtatious look in her eyes. It was slightly funny that the girl would even think Bao would eat her candy she'd left behind. "Thank you sweets." She rather liked that little nickname and thought it matched well since they were in a candy shop. It would be interesting to see how the girl would react.

Before the girl could react, Bao's eyes strayed to the menu she held in her hands. Her expression said it all. She was clearly overjoyed at the selection of candies and drinks. Her whole face lit up with joy and she delicately licked her lips in anticipation. She was incredibly glad that she had come to Khandi. It was her first time here and it would definitely not be her last. The menu, though, was slightly overwhelming for her. She had no idea what to get first. So she turned to the girl that had helped her, "What would you recommend?" She paused and then added on, "Tea with honey sounds delicious right now."

Maybe Bao could bring her brother along. He could appreciate sweets. That is if he could detach himself from mother's side. The thought disgusted her. Wei and Radha were so spoiled and unadventurous. It made her wonder how she was even related to them.

Sinta had never given a thought on giving her children nicknames, so Lestari flinched when the girl called her 'sweets', taken aback that a stranger would just give out a nickname. Her fingers curled and uncurled, unsure if she should take the nickname or not. She decided otherwise. “It's Lestari, sweetheart.” Her last word had come out a little forced, as Les had never used such words to call anyone such a thing, much less a random noblewoman she'd just met. The word made her tongue feel thick, as if it were leaving a bad taste in her mouth, she decided then that she didn't enjoy the use of nicknames much. However, Lestari was a curious creature by mature, and she wanted to see how the girl would react.

A smirk slowly stretching on her features, it was hard not to notice someone else's love for food and candy. This woman here, even though she looked pretentious, might actually have something in common with Lestari. Surprising consider she'd always thought she'd never be able to find a single noble whom she'd share something, even something like eating. Maybe, she'd serve her than, just to see how this would turn out.

What would you recommend?

Lestari's eyes left the orange girl and turned downwards to the menu, the girl was clearly new to the shop. “Well...” Les leaned down closer, extending one hand to point at some of the titles. “Our candy is sorted by type, you can see a few here are  caramel candy, toffee, fudge, praline, tablet, gumdrops, jelly beans, rock candy, lollipops, taffy, cotton candy.” Of course, the menu continued into an infinite amount of types, it all came down really to what she liked. “The prices are by the unit and than by pound if you decide to take more. Let me know what you like.” Before the girl could answer, Les was already on her way to the back to get the tea she'd ordered. She figured the girl had wanted green tea, and used that essence to make the tea. Than grabbed the small pot of honey and made her way back towards the girl.

She places the cup down, with the honey and small spoon beside it, than turned towards the girl. “You ready to order now?”

Bao didn't even flinch, bat an eyelash, or even seem affected by the tacked on "sweetheart". A couple seconds later and her mouth slowly widened into a big smile. She glanced up at Lestari through her eyelashes with a flirty look. "Lestari?" It wasn't really a question. Just a way for her to get a feel for the way the name sounded coming off of her tongue. "You may call me Bao but sweetheart is fine too." That big smile remained on her face as she watched for a reaction from Lestari. Clearly, the girl was not used to being called an endearing nickname and sounded a little stiff from adding on that last part. She was almost used to catching others off-guard by giving them a last minute nickname.

Once Lestari started to talk about the menu and pointing out the items that they had, Bao's energy stopped going into flirting and went fully into paying attention to what the girl was telling her. The menu wasn't that hard to figure out as Lestari said. Everything was quite organized. She'd have to definitely remember this place so that she could come back again. There was almost too much for her to choose from. She'd really love to try them all. Father would get mad at her if she came home with bags of candy. He didn't like for her to spend money on frivolous things. She definitely did not consider food frivolous though. After all, it was something that one needed just to live.

Bao was still absorbed in the menu when Lestari brought her tea. She turned her head at the smell of the honey. She inhaled the aroma of the tea. Green tea, just what she wanted. She dipped the small spoon in the honey and put a generous amount into her tea. She slowly stirred it and then inhaled the aroma again, her eyes closed and a smile upon her lips. "Perfect." It was a great compliment for Bao to say that in regards to something one could consume. She smiled up at Lestari and nodded. In her mind, she briefly wondered if Lestari belonged to a noble family. Her clothes were too well made to be from a poor family. She would have loved to bring Lestari back home to work for her family.

"Yes, I do believe I am ready. Could I have a pound of caramel candy?" Bao absolutely loved caramel. She loved to suck on the little morsels while studying or doing anything she considered boring. So of course, she had to get at least a pound. It wouldn't be too hard to hide. "I'd also like some cotton candy and chocolate covered raisins. You wouldn't happen to have strawberry flavored lollipops would you?" She had been to many shops and many had lollipops but none that were strawberry flavored. It had been a slight obsession of hers for a bit. She really loved strawberry flavored things. If they had some here, it would become her favorite candy shop of all time.

Too bad the girl hadn`t given her a last name, she would have been able to distinguish which noble family she was from and if her mother was in good with them. It would have allowed her to be a bit snippy with the woman, and maybe tell her what she really thought of calling her sweetheart. Though, when she returned home Lestari would make sure to ask her mother if she knew a `Bao` within the high families, she could probably brag about serving the girl too. Considering the girl seemed to like the tea she`d made her, Les smiled both inwardly and out.

“A pound of caramel.” Lestari made a mental check. “Yes we do. I’ll be right back.” Off Les went again, behind the counter to fetch one of their colourful bags they gave to customers, than to the boxes hung on the wall with the candy. She’d grabbed one large bag for the pound of caramel which she shovelled inside with the wooden shovel inside, then closed with a string for measuring. With tongs, she grabbed some cotton candy and then the chocolate covered raisins went into another bag that was closed. The lollipop was in a jar, and she plucked one to put it aside while she weighed everything. One a piece of paper she wrote everything, with the weight and price. This would come in handy later on when Boa would come to the cash to pay, Les hung it on the tableau with a pin beside all the other patrons.

Grabbing up the bags in one hand, Lestari headed back towards Bao’s table. Honestly, she had no wish to move from her original spot wither Bao was sitting with her or not. She gently dropped the bags of candy in front of the girl beside her tea and plopped herself down on the other chair beside her. She grabbed her bag and took a bite from her licorice, she watched Bao to see what she would grab first. “I’m on break now so next time; go ask someone else for more candy.” Nothing else needed to be said, Les just wanted to enjoy her candy.

Lestari seemed to just smile at what Bao said. On the outside, she kept her pleasant, slightly flirty smile on her face. On the inside, she was incredibly curious as to why she merely smiled and slightly confused. At first, Lestari seemed to not like the thought of a nickname but she didn't really respond to what Bao had said in a predictable manner. This Lestari was becoming more interesting by the minute.

She watched as Lestari went off to go get her candy. The tea was so very delicious that she drank half of it by the time the girl came back with all the things that she ordered. Now that Bao looked at everything she had gotten, she realized that she may have ordered too much sweet things. Sometimes eating a lot of sweets at once made her sick or it just overwhelmed her taste buds with too much sugary goodness. Still, she accepted everything with an excited smile. "Thank you Lestari. You may have just made my day. My meal at home had been considerably disappointing but I'm sure these won't disappoint me." Bao winked at the girl and then popped a chocolate covered raising into her mouth. She closed her eyes as she chewed the morsel and a moan of pleasure rose up from her throat. The chocolate was so delicious.

After enjoying that one piece, she realized that she had taken up Lestari's break time. She didn't feel bad though. Lestari was the best looking worker here and Bao would settle for no less than the best looking one to serve her. She did, however, appreciate the work that Lestari put in. She pulled out some money, about the same amount that the candy would be worth, and tucked it into Lestari's hand. Bao lowered her voice and made sure the girl's boss wasn't watching. "For you. Thank you Lestari." The smile on her face was genuine. She kept her hand on Lestari's for a moment longer before going back to enjoying her own candy.

Lestari had no idea what to make of Bao, and she was just as confused as she was. First, she got the impression that Bao was insulting her, now it seemed like she had made the girls day. The only thing she commented on was the food Bao was served at home. “You ought to get a better cook then, I know that's what my mom does when she's unhappy with our own.” Not one single person could escaped Sinta's hate, and they'd gone through numerous cooks, none of which had been able to stay for more than a year. Maybe it had been a good thing, Lestari had been able to taste various things while growing up, and acquire some cooking skills of her own. She was no expert, but good enough to please her mother. Noble woman do not cook, she'd said, but you must always be prepared.

Again, words escaped Lestari as she stared at where Bao's hand had been. It took her a while before she finally registered what the girl had just given her. Her eyes went wide a little, that was a lot of money, and she really didn't need it, just like she didn't need to work here either. Should she tell the girl she was noble too? Probably, she'd enjoy watching Bao's reaction to the news. “Thank you, but you know, I really don't need money.” No one had ever tipped her this much, heck she wasn't even sure it anyone had ever been tipped this much. Lestari had been pretty certain all nobles were cheap men and woman who hated giving away money to anyone unless it was beneficial for them.

Glancing back to Bao, Lestari grabbed another pieces of licorice while she pocketed the money. “You know, I'm a noble too. My full name is Lestari Putri Pramoedya.” She added hermothers last name as well, that ought to ring some bells in the nobles. Maybe this would also insight Lestari as to which noble family Bao was from, thought the conversation was either going to go sour or well after this point. If her mother wasn't on a happy standing with Bao's fmaily, Lestari would not indulge her mother by repairing it. Plus, she wanted nothing from Bao, and wanted nothing to do with her mothers musings.

Bao let herself laught softly at Lestari's comment. The cook had been new and was most likely already on his way to find a new job. "I'm sure my father has already fired him. No cook could last long in our house serving burnt, barely edible food. He was new." She felt a little bad now that she thought about it. Perhaps she should have stayed behind to smooth things out with the new cook. Even if they had to fire him, she knew her father's temper. He demanded the best from those that he employed. Bao knew that they always tried to do their best. No one wanted to deal with his wrath. Probably only her mother and herself could stand it without crying.

Bao popped another chocolate covered raisin into her mouth as she watched Lestari's reaction to the tip. She smiled to herself at how the girl's eyes widened. Most nobles were cheap, even with all the money they had, they still didn't like to give much to those of a lower station. She was always willing to reward good work and effort. Those that worked for her in her house knew that. She treated them well and in return they did the best work out of all of those employed under her father. That was also the reason she tipped off the samurai retainers. That way they'd be sure to win should a battle ever break out. I always broke her heart when someone had to be carried back home.

She was so caught up in her thoughts and eating that she almost missed what Lestari said. When she did realize what the girl's full name was, she almost choked on her raisin. Not a noble on their side. This girl was not on their side. Bao didn't want to cause any trouble though. If Lestari's mother and Bao's father were ever in the same room, she was sure a war of words of massive destruction would break out. Instead of commenting on the name, she just focused on the noble part, "Noble or not, I like to reward hard work. Everyone that puts in a good effort deserves to be appreciated." Bao did not want to let Lestari know who her father was.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 27, 2012 1:10 pm

It always fascinated Lestari when she met a household where the head figured was the father; she very much doubted things would have turned out the same if her mother had not been married to her father. In fact, she was certain that her mother wouldn’t be all cranky and bad tempered at all if things had been different. It also meant, Lestari would have been different, a true born noble child. The thought was a little scary; she couldn’t see herself being any different much less have a different father. She only nodded at Bao`s comment, lots of people got fired quite easily from Noble homes. Nothing new.

Bao`s reaction to her name made Lestari laugh out, that certainly had been priceless! She was used to it though; the woman did not hold their tongues back when they got together for tea. She remembered her mother talking with the other ladies at a teahouse once, they were all laughing at her father`s expense. Her outburst that day had not helped matters either, nor did it get her any friends among the other ladies. "I do agree." What the other was saying wasn't crazy, Lestari certainly agreed with her, but it wasn’t like her job was super hard in any sense.
