For: Tariel, Varun, guardians as necessary.
Place: Gambino Aquarium
Time: Mid-morning

Tariel danced and sang in line, drawing looks from those around her. The golden Raevan didn't care - she was oblivious on the best of days, but more so today. Nothing could ruin her mood. She'd been a good girl while she and her mother were away, Kali dragging Tari around the globe. Tari had rarely even whined about missing her friends, or not seeing if more Raevans had been created.

But it was all worth it. They were back home now, and today Tari was receiving a special treat. Her mother had said she had a surprise for Tari, then taken them out early in the morning - long before Kali was normally up. At first Tari had thought it was unfair they she didn't get to choose her own reward, but she'd changed her mind as soon as they'd arrived.

Her mother was taking her to the aquarium. Tari was giddy. She could never have thought of such a wonderful place to go. So she just bounced and swayed in the air, singing, "Fiiiiishy, fishy, fish~" to herself over and over.

It was going to be a wonderful day, Tari just knew it. In fact, it couldn't possibly be any more perfect a day.

... Could it?

Still, Kinsey and Varun did not speak. She brought him things to eat, things to read, even things to wear and brushed his hair with the creature deemed her fit enough. But the Leviathan could not bring himself to say anything to the traitor, to the woman who had single handedly used his greatest fear against him and struck him down with storm’s light. He had felt it, felt the thousands of volts tearing through his third of a torso and send him crashing down, gravity feeling so much stronger as he twitched on the dirty tile of a crowded supermarket aisle. No, he had no more words for his guardian. He had expressed how he felt already. So he stayed in his four walls, as much as he hated them, and thought, and he wondered.

Until today. The sea called for Varun today, he knew it. There was a gentle breeze riding in through the ocean, the delicious scent of salt and sand winding through the Leviathan’s open window and tickling all his senses until he could stand it no further. Kinsey was gone to work, on patrol with Ford, but that meant nothing for the Raevan. He could leave her a note in his ugly chicken scrawl, tell her not to worry, but he rather hoped she did. It would serve her right, who did she think she was? Who did she think she was?

With a huff, the seasonal Frei slammed the door behind him and quickly floated down the steps and out of the apartment building. The crowded streets always sent tension flooding through the creature, his headfins pinned to his skull, his delicate wings braced and narrowly avoiding the careless citizens rushing to and fro. Several folks had almost lost a hand or limb to snapping jaws or twitching fingers by the time he passed the Gambino aquarium. It was the first time Varun had noticed it at all - he did not actually know how to get to the ocean, despite his faith in his innate senses - and the building caused him to stop. It smelled so heavily of fish and water and everything else that made the sea creature happy. Perhaps this was the ocean, as well? Unable to deny his curiosity, the redhead hovered inside, pushing through the door and mingling with the crowds. It was not the fish he noticed though, but a familiar voice floating over the low murmuring, the glint of gold in the low light of the aquarium entrance. "Tariel!"

Tari's song broke off mid-way as someone called her name. A quick check to her left showed it wasn't her mother, who was alternating between glaring at the slow-moving line and checking on Tari. Curious, the golden Raevan spun around, checking the area close by.

She gasped. Over there, ribbons and bright colour and- and fins. For a moment, all Tari could do was quiver in place. This was the Best. Day. Ever.

Ever.

The moment passed. Tari was suddenly a flurry of motion and sound. A golden blur flew across the pavement. "Eeeeeeee! Varun!!" it cried, before an armoured torso slammed into the Leviathan-Raevan. Latching her arms around Varun's shoulders, Tari hugged Varun tightly. "Varun! Tari missed you so much. Tari away for so long. You miss Tari, too? How is Varun?"

Varun waited, hovering in place as he watched his old acquaintance swirl around, as though caught in a whirlpool. It almost brought a smile to his lips, and though the corners turned upwards, he managed to stave off the expression of glee for another moment or two. His fins flicked outwards in entrance, and before he could blink twice, Tariel had disappeared into a golden blur, darting through the crowds. He'd forgotten how quick the Angel was!

"Oof!" the Leviathan grunted, barely able to open his arms before the female Frei collided with him, sending him several feet back and into a large man. Offering the stranger a toothy growl, he quickly turned his attention back to Tariel, fins forward and pricked as his wings rattled. Was he actually excited to see her? But it was so good to see someone he knew...someone he actually liked! "Very long," he agreed. "Too long. But now, you are back. Varun is....I am..." The sea monster wrinkled his nose, failing to find a word to describe all the turmoil he felt inside. "I am here. Where is here?"

Tari beamed at Varun, bobbing back and forth in the air with glee as he adjusted his fins and wings. It was like having a giant, pretty fish that talked. She resisted the urge to hug him again - she'd been warned that she had a tendancy to hurt people with her surprise glomps while wearing her armour. Sometimes she was so excited that she forgot (like just now after spying Varun), but Tari was trying hard to be a good girl.

"Where is here?" Tari repeated. Her green eyes were wide as they stared at the aquarium entrance and then back at Varun. "Varun not know? But... but..."

It was a place of fish. How did a fishy-Raevan not know all about this magical place? Tari was baffled. Then it dawned on her that if Varun really didn't know, Tari had to show him. It wasn't fair to keep Varun from the other fishies!

She leaned in close. Her voice dropped, like she was revealing the most amazing secret in the world. "This... is aquarium." It had taken her the better part of the morning to learn to pronounce the word properly. It had kept the golden Raevan entertained and under control for the majority of the wait in line, to Kali's relief. Until Varun arrived, that was.

"Home of fish," she explained, seeing that Varun wasn't getting it. "Many, many, maaaaany fish. Ooooh, Varun must see!"

Grabbing a hold on his arm, Tari tugged (gently) while flying backwards, trying to herd Varun up to her mother and to the entrance.

If he had known, he wouldn't be asking, but the Leviathan tried to spare his friend the exasperated grunt and dramatic roll of eyes. He had liked Tariel in the past, after all, the female Frei was great fun, and very beautiful. The angel had led them on quite the wild adventure on what would have otherwise been a very dull mall trip. Shopping with Kinsey, ugh.

His fins pressed forward when the golden female leaned close, suddenly forgetting the minor irritation caused by a snubbed pride. "Aquarium? He tried the word out for himself, glancing around the damp room at all the people, and behind them, the tanks. Tanks? But he knew this was where that salty, fishy smell had been coming from, he was positive. His friend's next statement assured him of this.

"Home of fish? No no, the fish's home is the ocean," he tried to explain, but he let Tariel drag him along anyways. They soon met up with the angel's guardian and the leviathan flared his wings, eying the woman uneasily. "What are we doing. There are fish here?"

"Yes," Tariel nodded enthusiastically. "Lots of fishies here. We go see."

Kali was somehow not surprised to see that Tari had brought a friend back with her. At least she returned on her own, the redhead thought, trying to be positive. Kali didn't have to go chasing Tariel over the shorefront, which was a nice change from most of their outings.

A smile crossed her face as the newcomer - Varun? she had a vague recollection of meeting him before - asked why the fish were in the aquarium and not the ocean. "The aquarium is so that people can see fish that live in oceans far away," she explained. "Or fish that might be nearby, but hiding from humans. Humans come here and can see what the bottom of the ocean is like, or a coral reef, or see... penguins and seals that normally live in the ice."

Tari, despite having heard all this before, listened along with big eyes. "Whole world of fishies?" she gasped.

Kali... was not tackling everything wrong with Tari's brief summary. Rubbing a hand across her eyes, she gave up and agreed, "The fishies of the whole world." She gave Varun a smile. Maybe Tari wasn't the only one who had to see it to understand. "Would you like to join us?"
