maggie & millie & molly & may
. . . e. e. cummings

maggie and millie and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and

millie befriended a stranded star
who's rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea.

Yes, our same choir sang a version of this poem too. It was almost as fun to sing as the Jabberwocky one. I like fun poems like these that I've been posting... but they're the only two I know of... unless I can find the one about the Walrus and the Carpenter...hmm...

Oh, do post the Walrus and the Carpenter!

I love that one!

Oh Oysters come and walk with us...

the day is warm and bright...

a pleasant walk, a pleasant talk...

would be a sheer delight!

Oooh and maybe I should post some Wallace Stevens...

Emperor of Ice Cream?

E. E. Cummings has a very pretty poem about the Vietnam War, or some similar war.
I love it to death although it makes me quite sad.

Jiggy: If I can find the Walrus and the Carpenter (I will search for it right now), I will post that one too. mrgreen

Pants: The poem you speak of reminds me of one that was something about Flanders Field. I don't know if that's the poem you were thinking of, or even if it is by the right poet, but I might try to find the Flanders Field one to post too...

for some reason, I seem to be very much into the poetry lately...hmm...

You know, the first thing I thought of when I saw the title was "Hmmm...bet it's an e. e. cummings one." I was so right. ^.^
