I've seen how to use a gravel vacuum, but I'm wondering what you do after the vacuuming. Do you just flush the water with the fish s**t down the toilet, or what?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in. There's a lack of a chatterbox and any sort of pet sub-forum, soooo... Yeah.

Oh geez, I haven't had fish in years... I believe what my family used to do was dump the water somewhere, scrub the tank clean, the refill it with everything.

Just put 'em in a large bowl or cup of water. As for dumping the water out, dumping on the grass sounds like a good idea.

To answer your previous question, our tank is kind of huge, so my dad either caught the fish and put it in a bucket with the water from the dirty tank, then scrubbed it as is, refill, and put them back. OR, when he's lazy he'll just suction the water out with a tube until maybe the fish are really close to the ground, then refill the rest with clean water.

the part about keeping the fish in the same water while you clean is important, they are used the the temperature and consistency of that water so if you suddlenly put them in different water they can go into shock and even die.
