For those of us do not live in America - and for those Americans who have ever bothered to wonder what exactly qualifies as PG-13 - the answer is... who knows? The ratings are so arbitrary that there's no real way to be sure. One person's PG-13 is another's NC-17.
And the bad news for us is that the PG-13 standard is biased against lesbians. A long, deep kiss between two naked heterosexuals who have clearly just finished having sex - they're still sweating and all - is PG-13... but between two lesbians...? It's a different story.
So what's a yuri fan to do? Well here are our guidelines:
- When in doubt, don't do it. Seriously. Don't. Don't ******** up the guild for everyone just because you got a little steamy.
Never get explicit. There are a lot of people who don't know the difference between explicit and implicit - and this includes some Gaia moderators we've dealt with in the past. Well it's simple. If you say: "Mary and Sue went into the van and shut the door. A few moments later there were loud gasps and moans and the van rocked on its shocks while the windows steamed up. A little while later Mary and Sue stepped out of the van, tired and sweaty, with their clothes and hair disheveled, but giggling." That is implicit sex. Even though it's quite obvious that that's what happened, at no point anywhere did i explicitly say that it was. See? Simple. So keep it in mind. Implied naughtiness is fine. Explicit is not.
And if you still can't get it, use the Disney/After-school-special/WB litmus test. If it would be shown in one of those places - without being shocking - then it should be ok.
And if there's still doubt. DO NOT DO IT.
