Yep.

I teach his beginner students the basics, and we split the earnings. Not really that confident about my own abilities, but it sure gave me a kick in the butt to practice more. xd

Any interesting stories about teaching other people?

i have been wanting to teach, and been asked to teach from other guitar players i know, but i just haven't really done it for some reason. lord knows i could use the extra income. guitars and amps dont buy themselves. but i'm too lazy to get on it and start teaching them. dont get me wrong, i play my rig everyday whenever i get the chance, but i dont know about teaching. what do u suggest starting with triste, that way, if i know maybe i could convince myself to start. i should come up with a little bit of "curriculum" as schools call it. but any thoughts and advice would be well appreciated

I've taught some kids the basics, namely my little cousins, but that's about it. I wish I could get some extra cash for basics lessons on the side!

Dunno, when I first started with my teacher all he had were:
*. his PC,
*. an electric guitar,
*. an amp,
*. and an acoustic guitar.

You can let 'em play the electric while you show 'em stuff on the acoustic yourself. Not many people will have two amps anyway...

Not to divulge my teacher's 'trade secrets', but he starts with basic right-hand (picking) techniques first, then some exercises that help left- and right-hand coordination, and finally, chords.

After the student's got those things down, he lets 'em rip through several exercises from selected good guitar how-to books. He personally likes the Progressive Guitar Method series, because they don't 'jump the gun' and have an Audio CD attached (which he can burn, naturally xp ).

prog guitar mthod its called? sweetbiz. that saves a lot of time. i already have the stuff, i actually have given a few lessons, but nothing in sequence with eachother. just showin people stuff that will help them technically. like speed excercizes, legato s**t, even diminshed tricks, but not actually "took someone under my wing" so to speak

I have to admit that, in retrospect, my teacher can easily get paid and just teach songs and all that s**t. Y'know, actually SHOW you how to play songs, then ask you to go away for a week, then come back when you've perfected the song.

But he doesn't. He forces me to learn the songs by ear. I'm grateful for that.

It's a big temptation to just show people the 'advanced' stuff, I suppose.
