"I don't mind fat people, as long as they don't...."
Fill in the blank.
We hear and read it all the time, especially on Gaia. "I don't mind fat people as long as they don't dress slutty.....as long as they bathe everyday....as long as they ect, ect, ect."
I don't know about anyone else, but this infurates me even more then "I hate fat people."
Not only has society put a negative outlook on being overweight, it has officially lumped every overweight person into one category: fat. If a FAT person wears a shirt "too tight" for them then the people who see them automatically think of every other FAT person in the world "Ug, they're all so disgusting". If a skinny or average person wears a shirt too tight then that ONE person MIGHT be considered somewhat slutty. If someone FAT has a particular odor about them then FAT people stink. All of them. If someone skinny or average has a particular odor then that ONE person stinks.
An overweight person will always be a FAT person, no matter what they do to set themselves apart, unless that thing is losing enough weight to be considered not fat.
It's come to my attention that people don't like being stereotyped, cataroized, and otherwise lumped into massive groups without any true, fact-based reason. So just answer me this one question, why in hell do they continue to do so to others?
This is the end of my rant. Agree? Disagree? How does it make you feel?

That is a quite an annoying thing.
One theory on why people do this is that it's a way of showing contempt for the lower class. Since classism is considered unnaceptable in our society, wealthy people with access to expensive weight loss procedures and leisure time for exercise can show their contempt for those who eat at cheap and quick places like McDonalds and don't have the time or money to use the gym under the guise of concern about "morbidly obese" people.
A particular point that bugs me is the tight shirt bit. I mean, naturally you'll tend to wear more tight shirts if you're outgrowing your clothes or if most stores don't carry clothing in your size.
