The pounding of feet was hard to dismiss when A'Meiya was the one using them. Her wooden shoes hit the dusty path as hard as she could, almost on purpose, like her presence needed to be known now instead of when she finally got to the door. If she ever got to the door. Dressed in her training gear she was a mess. Mud and dust painted her once clean clothes filthy, her skin not fairing any better as the smudges of blood and dirt filled in the soft lines of her limbs. and lets not get started about the hair! It was to say the least, a birds nest of a mess. Yet it was her face that told the true story of why she was here as the tears, the tears that couldn't stop flowing ran down her face and splattered onto the parched floor as she made her way to Shin-Mu's estate.
Her hands couldn't form the shape fast enough as she balled them up and hit upon the door. Any servants with half a eye could see she was distress, but a distress over-emotional girl was never a good thing and to have said girl wailing on your doorstep was even worse. All sense of manners and poise were out of the window. A'Meiya didn't even know what the term 'being a lady' was right now. All she wanted was her friend, he last remaining friend.
"L-lady Shin *sniff* Muuuuu, please, S-Shin-Mu, I need-d, you-your he-el-p! Puh-ple-ease." It took everything in Mei's power not to collapse against the door frame as she waited for someone to answer.

From her room within the vast estate of her family Shin couldn't hear the pounding against the door, but she could hear the murmur of the servants whispering and the rush of feet along the floorboards as some rushed off to see what was going on. It was impossible for the noble girl not to wonder, and after a last cleansing pass along one cheek with a moistened cloth the young mistress got to her feet, walking soundlessly towards the opened doors that lead into the halls. Pale eyes flicking inquiringly up at the remaining two maids before they spotted her and hurried off back to work. Terribly unhelpful.
The subtle sounds of commotion and gossip were coming from the front of the grand house, so that was where Shin-Mu was headed. The closer she got, the more she could hear, and on top of the unsure murmurs of employees the girl could hear a growing, desperate pounding. "What is going on here?" Her voice was firm, but very soft. Even still a good number of the servants jumped, turning to stare at her with expressions of mingling guilt and confusion. After a moment one of the maids stepped forward, and wringing her hands, began to speak. "There's a young girl outside the front door, she's a mess," she chanced a weary glance up at Shin, then back to her feet. "She's calling for you."
"A young girl?" Calling for her? The dark skinned youth frowned, then pale eyes widened as she realized who it must be. "Let her in at once!" There was only one girl that knew where the Shin's home was, and that was A'meiya.
Shoulders tensing, the girl moved forward, past the employees, and wrenched the door open before anyone had had time to react to her orders. "Mei!" She was moving before she'd really seen the other girl, rushing forward as if she'd pull her friend into a hug, but stopped short mere inches away when she realized the state the other noble was currently in. She was filthy, covered from head to toe in mud, and worst still, blood. It set Shin's teeth on edge, clenching closed as an involuntary cringe made her shudder. She had made a lot of progress of late with her crippling aversion to dirt, but this? It was too much.

Mei had resorted to pounding on the door with her head, hands forgotten as they lay limply by her side. She was still wailing long after the voices could be heard from inside. They didnt belong to Shin so it didn't matter. Let them talk, let them judge like everyone else did. She couldn't cope with it any more. Her best friend, her best friend, had betrayed her trust. Who else could carry that burden? Was Shin-Mu apart of the Legion as well? Plotting with a hag of an emporer to cut them off from the world? No! No she couldn't be like that, not Shin-Mu!
"Mei!"
The voice broke though the wall of thought like a knife. No, not Shin-Mu, she would never be like that. Just look at her! And sadly A'Meiya was doing just that as she stared hard though tear stained eyes, peering up at her last friend, her only friend with unblinking reserve and went full force into the hug that Shin-Mu wouldn't finish. She didnt even register the distaste on the girls pretty features. This hug would save her. Every inch of her form connected with the Soul Conduit from the tips of her mud stains fingers to the blood splattered cheeks she held onto the Noble as if she was to vanish.
"SHIN-MU! Hu-huu, S-Shin-Mu, they, they l-lied too-oo meeee! wW-WAAAHH!" Oh god, Mei rubbed her face in to the crisp linen of Shin-Mus silk shoulder with added gusto as the tears erupted forth. She clung with dirty nails to layers of fabric and tugged on them, bringing the hug even closer. The conduit was going to be a work of art when she moved away from the soldier, all splattered and filthy. Not to mention the smell... It was only then that A'Meiya noticed the audience that had gathered, it hit her. She was making a scene, a scene she couldn't stop but at least she could try and regain some dignity.
"May w-we, may we t-talk in, in private Lady Shin-M-Mu?" Her hand had already started to trace her arm seeking out a clean hand to her dirty one, she was pleading with her eyes. What a state.

Stopping just short of wrapping her arms around her friend could have been considered cold, and perhaps it was. Even still, the young noble would have argued the punishment didn't match the crime. Before she had any time what-so-ever to react A'Meiya had rushed forward and thrown dirty arms around Shin's crisp figure and crushed the pair of them together from cheek to hips. It made the dark skinned youth cringe, flinching under the press of that mud stained cheek as it slide along her own, but she resisted the near overwhelming urge to pull away.
Instead she did the unthinkable. She embarrassed her distressed companion, gingerly perhaps, but her arms did raise to encircle the other girl, and she lay her hands lightly on Mei, shifting about subtly until she found a bit of fabric or skin that didn't feel quite so filthy. Not that any careful placement of hands was going to help the feeling of grit and tacky blood against her cheek, or the smear of earth along her clothing. S he suppressed a shudder.
It took a second or two to regain that stoic composer she prided herself in, but when she did her voice came soft, comforting and inquisitive. "Who lied to you?" That wasn't the only question she wanted to ask, but with her friend in such a broken state, she felt it was wiser to take it slow.
Shin blinked at A'Meiya's request for privacy, a tiny flicker of pride seeping past her worry at the girl's delayed attempt to cling to her dignity. She was trying, Goddess help her. "Of course we can," dark fingers slid between lighter ones, and she stepped away from the fighter so she could draw her past the threshold of the house and into the hall, guiding her towards the bathroom and promise of soup and hot water within. "Let's get you cleaned up as well."
