Some of the best "home made" spells would be either fire, ice, or shock. These because you can put on a weakness to any above. Doing so drops your opponent's weakness to one of these causing more damage to them. Say you like fire spells, when you go to make it put a weakness to fire on target as well as the damaging spell as well.
Have fun with this trick and go own the lands of Cyrodiil =D

If you love killing with destruction magic then listen to this!
Make a spell with all three destruction types 'frost, fire and shock- all at once, at as high power as you can (helps to have a high destruction skill). When you use it on people, not only do they die instantly, but they literally fly way the hell up into the sky from the force of the spell. All three spell sounds play at once when you do it, so it's loud and sounds kinda like an explosion.
When I get bored, I'd go into the Imperial City and kill everyone with it. It's ridiculously entertaining. Once, I got a guy stuck on the top of Tiber Septim's big statue rofl

Greetings;
If you are looking for something quick and easy, you could always combine an elemental spell, the spell set to touch, to do however much you are willing to put out-I would usually only ever bother with around 30 points of damage, but I would combine it with another spell...One that would remove the victims capacity for life points by 100...For one single second. Spending the bulk of the game at level 1 or 2, most enemies only have around 70 points of health, it costs next to nothing at all, so you could clear an entire fort without ever having to worry about your magic bar dwindling...The basic remove health effect would even keep their armor from getting damaged, unlike a usual spell or weapon effect, as I recall. So it is great if you are just looking to loot the Hell out of a place without much worry...Goes even better if you have a high chameleon effect on your armor...Just walk around and no one will notice you, is awesome...Just feel like an incarnation of death...Sweet...

Are you guys talking about Oblivion? How do you make a custom spell? I had no idea you could do that. I used to play that game all the time but after like 40 hours I was on like level 8 because I had no idea back then how to even level up properly. rofl Once I played 300 hours of Skyrim I realized how different they were and started customizing my Oblivion class so I could actually level up on the skills I used instead of the skills I was supposed to be using!
