Something that bothers me a lot, stare is this FAME business. I know you need it for some reason.. to be famous... but.. it's incredibley HARD to increase your fame AND figure out who will give a quest to you. So far i've done 7 in Bastok 1 in other area( Kazham lost object) amd 1 im Selbina (Clay figure thing), and for some reason this stu[id dancing bard playing tarutaru makes fun of me being a nobody...ok...So what really is behind this whole 'fame' thing. I'd really like to know. Do you get anything from it? And if so what?

Fame is based on the ammount of Quests, Missions, and Garrisons done in that nation.

they're just there for more Indepth Story lines to the game, and once you max fame out, you can flag the Avatar Prime fights, which lead to the Fenrir Fight.

Actually, contrary to popular belief, missions do not affect fame.

Fame is based on the amount of quests (unique and/or repeatable) you complete in each town. Quests in Bastok affect Bastok fame, Windy fame, and Sandy Sandy fame. Jeuno fame is based on your fame in those three nations, in addition to any quests you have done in Jeuno (but its not based solely off Jeuno quests). The Outland areas fame is as follows:

Selbina: Bastok and San d'Oria Fame
Mhaura: Windy fame
Kazam: Windy Fame
Rabao: Sandy fame (I think)
Norg: Tenshodo fame

Fame gives you acess to mo quest which give you nice items, also it makes items in the store cheeper for you to buy...and pluse if the quest were that easy then youd be wasting your $15. that you use to play this game...

ive raised fame very very easy. you need like 70K to start with tho...

buy like 7 stacks of boyohda moss and trade to a guy in selbina. you lose like 5K but that fame goes to sandy AND bastok.

and once your bastok fame is high...go to the music shop in bastok and buy as many cornettes as you can. then go to windy and some guy will give you 200 for each one. you will buy them for like 225

You can only buy cornettes in Bastok if Bastok is in first or second place. Unfortunately, we usually have a poor showing on Fenrir... sad

I did Batwings in Sandy (Afraid of the Dark), and the Bastore Sardine quest in Windy (tedious and boring and painful since you have to zone after every trade. I set my HP at the crystal in Port and warped everytime I traded. Amen for having BLM 17+...). Bastok I just did lots of random quests. I currently have level 7 fame (high enough to get the tuning forks for the Prime Avatar battles).

question how do u know what lvl your fame is

there is a npc in each town who, if you speak to him, will tell you something horrifically general like "Huh? I've never heard of you before" or "You are loved by all the people of your nation" or "I overheard two people talking the other day, they only had good things to say about you" or something to that effect.
Then you have to figure out a "number" for your fame level, which is an artifical thing that players use to explain their fame, it is not really part of the game ~ the stratedy guide is really bad at that -.- I think the online guides are better ^^

I don't know where the other npcs are ~ but in windurst it is a tarutaru in the timbres tarvern in windurst waters ^^ he will tell you your windurst fame ^^

good luck with your fame gathering! 3nodding

Like rukawa_uke said, you can talk to a different NPC in each tow to find out what "level" your fame is.

Somepage has a great fame guide here: http://ffxi.somepage.com/fame.php

It tells you the best ways to raise fame in each area, and what level is equapted to what the NPC says to you.

I have level 7 fame in all cities right now... someday I'll take the time to get it to Hero status all over the world! Mwahahahahaha!
