It was no challenge at all the catch the rabbit Rui flushed. Ayame had trotted over to the marked den opening, sat just out of sight of anything coming out of it, and waited as Rui started up a din at one of the other entrances. Silly creatures burst out and streaked straight forward. One managed to avoid her. Ayame could have gotten it, but since the other ran right into her…

She was a little preoccupied. Surprised and reacting by instinct. Otherwise the rabbit might have been able to recover and get away. (Not that she’d ever admit that. Ever.)

Ayame picked up her kill and trotted over to where Rui waited with a prize of his own and set down the limp bundle. “This is enough, if you aren’t hankering for more. I’ll probably need more calories later, but I’ll eat a bigger meal sometime before bed.” She settled down comfortably next to the deerfox and started in on her meal, enjoying the companionship.
