The sun had set hours ago, and the night rested cool and heavy over the Weyr. Save for the scuffles of the watch-wher and the calls of night birds, there was a calm, pleasant silence. In the cloudless sky, brilliant stars could be seen; they dotted the blackness like still glow-bugs, frozen in place.
Iaman stopped and looked up, smiling at the tiny crystals winking points of light at him. "Thanks for coming with me, 'Rodan. I'll feel safer." He whispered, speaking out of the corner of his mouth, trying to remain as silent as possible. He didn't want to disturb anyone - or get in trouble. He really had no idea if they were allowed to be out of the barracks this late.
Shaking his head, Iarodan chuckled softly. "Don't worry about it, "Man", you were starting to stink up the bunk next to me anyway." He suppressed a burst of laughter as Iaman swatted at him, perturbed expression on his delicate face.
"You just shut that obnoxious wherry-trap of yours. How am I supposed to bathe as often as I should, in circumstances like these? Even if we weren't busy with our chores all the time..." He sighed softly.
Iarodan reached out and put a hand on Iaman's shoulder. The next words he spoke were remarkably gentle. "Regretting your decision? You know, you could just..."
"No!" He spoke loudly - too loudly. Casting a nervous glance around, Iaman quickly hushed himself. "No. I don't regret it, and I don't want to change it. Some parts of it are just... tricky, that's all."
They reached the lake, and Iaman began to strip, casting furtive glances over his shoulders. Iarodan gestured for him to hurry, looking anxious in the set of his shoulders, for all Iaman couldn't see his face. There was no way he would look over, and it almost made Iaman smile. It wasn't as if they'd never seen each other naked before...
Not that she cared either way, particularly. It felt so good to take the bindings around her chest, waist and hips away; to run her hands over the little lines and creases in her skin from having fabric pressing tightly against her. She stepped into the water, choking back a delighted moan.
For just a moment, she would close her eyes and let herself drift, weightless on the surface of the water, before she pulled herself back into an odd reality and got down to business.

The ugly inflamed gashes running the length of bruised torn knuckles were barely noticeable in the light of the wan moon, Quindrife let out a heated growl and continued to pump her legs as she ran. It was all she could do to escape everything that was happening. It was all that she could ever do, simply run. Speeding through the shadows her chest heaved up and down, the burning lack of oxygen gripped her lungs and caused a deep ache to reverberate through her whole being. There was no doubting it Quindrife was a woman that was beyond upset. The dirty bandages that barely clung to her fist flapped and trailed behind her as she continued to speed into the darkness, why did everything always have to hurt so sharding bad. It wasn’t fair.
Things at the Weyr were at its worst, there were no eggs on the sands, the gold rider, her brother’s weyrmate had went between and to top it all off the girl that she thought she had a chance with completely cruel and heartless. Closing her already puffy and bloodshot eyes just for a moment her balance failed and her legs came slamming against the ground and skidded painfully against the earthen soil.
“Oh you gotta be kiddin’ me…. Ow….” the breath that pushed the words from her lips was feeble and trembled ever so slightly, hot tears quickly threatened to spill from out of the corners of her stormy gray hues then the tomboy just gave in. Lifting her pathetically wrapped hands to her face Quindrife covered her face and let out a pent up sob. Everything hurt, from the outside in, every last fiber ached. Was it too much to ask to be loved? Was it? Apparently so.
The cool night air brushed against the dampness that had settled on her flustered skin causing chills to run the length of her muscular frame, staring up into the palms of her hands Quindrife grimaced bitterly before slowly letting her arms fall flat into the sand; the harsh grit of the black grains ruthlessly dug into her horribly battered flesh. Letting out a hiss the tall candidate girl rocked her hips and rolled onto her side, there was nothing that she could do that would make the pain go away, there was no solace for someone that was so weak and disgusting. Someone that was such a freak. The darkness that surrounded her was almost comforting in a bleak empty way, shifting restlessly Quindrife simply shut her eyes and focused on the sound of the night, there was nothing that could help her, nothing at all. She had damaged her hands by throwing a fit and slamming her fist into the cutaway walls of the weyr and her body was soaked with sweat from hours of jogging; even her normally strong thighs burned and ached from the self abuse. She was so tired, so very tired and in pain. Laying in the glistening blackened sands the girl allowed herself to fade in and out for the longest of times, if anyone found her she would be in oh so much trouble for being out of bed so late after lights out.
‘No!’ A voice exclaimed loudly or maybe it was just the way the wind carried the sound across the pitch void of the night, wrinkling her brow the lanky figured brunette sat up a bit too quickly. The raging pounding in her head peeked with intensity at her brow where her small crescent scar resided, pushing the dull thudding out of her center of attention as best she could Quindrife lifted herself up and crouched on the tips of her fingers and the balls of her bare feet. Listening intensely she could only hear the faintest of noises, truly she wasn’t even sure where the sound originated from but it didn’t stop the tomboy from gathering to her feet and staggering hopelessly towards the direction that she thought was the source.
Creeping along the grounds the muscular figured candidate girl padded along carefully, twisting her unclad feet into the soil as she moved so that her footfall was muffled Quindrife found herself wandering in the shadows near where the small lake resided. Step by step the sounds were more apparent yet the voice that had called out had long since died away leaving only the swishing of water to guide her.
In the distance stormy gray eyes easily could make out a figure standing by the edge of the body of water, maybe whomever it was had just gotten out? Edging closer towards the lake the lanky framed brunette held her breath as she neared, she didn’t want the person to see her yet she just wanted to see whom it was that had also snuck out. Information like that was often a wonderful bargaining chip and one that feisty flimflam artist would use to get out of trouble or stack her own odds. Keeping her head down and her pace slow, careful, meticulous Quindrife strained her already adjusted gray hues into the inky depths of the night. The sight that greeted her eyes cause her mouth to gap open and her mind to reel with confusion and at the same time a burning longing swelled into her chest. Iaman--- she recognized the more docile well-kempt twin and without doubt she knew it was indeed that twin and not his mirror counterpart. But Iaman wasn’t a he, the sight that ingrained into her was that of a soft feminine body, subtle curves and small pert breasts. Iaman was a girl and a sharding gorgeous one at that. Blood rushed to the barely hidden tomboy’s face as she let out a sharp gasp. There was no way that she was going to believe her eyes. She was just imagining things! Why would the shorthaired steward in-training pretend to be a male, why would the candidate dress like a boy and bunk with all of the other males. Why was she hiding who she was? All of those questions raced through her mind and yet the only thing the awkwardly built Weyrbrat could do was stare in awe.
‘Look at her, just look at her--- she is so perfect--- shells what am I gonna do--- how can I look at him erm her, how can I look at her in the eyes. Couldn’t she see how similar we are, why wouldn’t she tell me something like this. Couldn’t she tell she could trust me! I should slap her! For the love of little greens just look at her though--- shards I want to kiss---- No! No, no, no, no! She probably isn’t like that… she just dresses and pretends to be a boy that doesn’t mean she likes girls. And besides even if she did like girls, she wouldn’t like someone like me… she probably would want a girl that is feminine not some… manish brute like me. Yeah…not someone like me….not me…Shells! What if she sees me?! She will avoid me even more than what she does now, shells, shells, shells!’ Mentally screaming profanities and expletives Quindrife attempted to silently escape before Iaman and Iarodan could notice her however a loud pop and whirr of cold air ripped through the silence. Squawking and letting out angry screeches the unnamed brown flit appeared between the open land that stretched between His Quindrife and the person in the lake that was upsetting his.
“Oh no,” her voice faltered and wavered ever so slightly as her gangly brown swooped towards Iaman and hissed, beating his overly large wings protectively the firelizard let out a confused chirp as his eyes focused on the girl’s face with recognition. Wasn’t this a friend? Flapping his overly sized wings the brown hovered above the surface of the water and debated continuing his assault, images of clawing and scratching pressed into her mind and instantly Quindrife shot into a run and bolted towards the lip of the lake. “No! Bad boy, no! Don’t you dare!” Jumping into the water Quindrife grabbed at her overly-protective flit. Her soft round eyes gazed apologetically into that of Iaman’s from several feet away. Tears lightly hung on her lashes and gathered at the edges of her dull gray eyes. She looked pathetic and hurt as she clutched the squealing brown to her tightly bound chest, couldn’t she see how similar they were? Dropping her stare to the water Quindrife simply stood in silence, thick streams of crimson trailed down from her hands and dripped off of her elbows into the murk of the pond. “You can trust me…you can….Iaman…you can.”

The first thing that happened was the fire-lizard. He popped out of between a short distance from Iamana, screeching up a storm. Eyes wide, Iamana quickly ducked under the surface of the water, short hair dangling wetly into her eyes and making her look like some sort of lake-creature. Her eyes darted anxiously around, trying to make out a figure in the darkness - but she couldn't see anyone.
"Shards!" A perturbed voice came from the other side of the lake - Iamana hadn't realized she'd drifted so far away from her twin, and caught sight of him hurrying around the curve of the shore, arms laden with her disguise. He looked displeased, and not a little bit vindicated. He'd be impossible to live with now - but perhaps she wouldn't have to worry about that. Even with no one around, flits were not exactly known for keeping secrets on request.
It wasn't until the fire lizard dove at her, screeching angrily, that she recognized him. She felt the threat grow, realizing that this flit looked to someone who actually knew her - as a 'him'. She had hoped that he might belong to a stranger, someone who would get images of a nude young woman bathing and brush it off, but this... no, Quindrife would recognize her. She would know. And then it would be over...
The flit had ceased his assault without actually attacking her, and so Iamana had begun to relax, just a little, as she tried to gather her thoughts.
And then Quindrife herself came flying out of the blackness, yelling at her flit to be still.
Iamana's world rocked.
Iarodan's knees weakened.
Sudden visions of having his twin ripped away from him tore at his chest, making breath come hard, and only with great effort. What would happen to her? Would she be sent away for her deception - deemed unsuitable to Stand? He nearly collapsed, but moved himself into action instead. Anger written on his face and tears pricking at his eyes, Iarodan charged into the water after Quindrife, grabbed her by the arm, and whirled her about.
"What do you think you're doing? Staring at an innocent girl while she's bathing?" Yes, that's it, he thought, turn it around on her. If she feels guilty, she won't tell. "Look at how you've scared her! You and that silly flit of yours, causing trouble..."
A sharp sound rang out through the empty, echoing Weyr bowl. It happened so fast, even Iamana almost didn't see it coming, and it had been she that had slapped her brother into silence. The red marks of her fingers were visible on his face, even in the darkness. "Iarodan. Shut up." Her voice was icy cool and perfectly serene. In shock, Iarodan dropped his hand away from Quindrife's arm, eyes wide. One hand lifted slowly to his cheek.
Ignoring her brother, Iamana turned to the new arrival, just a hint of fear underlying her cool expression. Still, she said very little, paying no heed to her own predicament. She reached down and lifted Quindrife's hand. She watched the rivers of diluted blood drip from the bandages just for a moment, and then slipped her hand lightly about Quindrife's wrist. "Come on. Let's go somewhere private. We need to talk, and you," she gestured at the bandages, "need to be properly seen to."
She looked again over at her brother, who was now standing with his arms crossed, looking upset. "Come on, Iarodan. Look at her. She didn't need you berating her - she feels bad enough already." She placed her free hand on her brother's shoulder, offering him a comforting look. "It was the only thing I could think of to do."
...It was then that she realized she was standing there, waist-deep in water, still totally nude, and in front of her brother, no less. The colour rose in her cheeks and she released both people, diving for the shirt that had been dumped on the bushes when Iarodan made his charge.

The tight grip that enclosed around her upper arm and the violent jerk that sent her face to face with Iarodan caused the seventeen-turn Weyrbrat to look small even for her massive height. The expression on his face tore into her and made her stomach knot and twist into a heavy unsteady nauseous mass, she felt ashamed of herself already, there was certainly no way that either of them would ever talk to her again after tonight. She had lost both of them in one bumbled stroke.
‘What do you think you're doing? Staring at an innocent girl while she's bathing? Look at how you've scared her! You and that silly flit of yours, causing trouble…’
His words sunk in and stabbed at her heart viciously, his darkened tone verbally slammed into her psyche making her demeanor crumble further, the happy-go-lucky candidate that they had both met was nowhere behind the stormy gray eyes that watered with a gambit of emotions and focused steadily, fearfully into his dark eyes, waiting, expecting to be physically assaulted for her transgression; completely standing defenseless and open for the on coming pain. She deserved it for being such a trouble-making freak.
The sound. The sharp echoing sound that filled the stark silence that flooded the air made Quindrife shrink even further, at first she was certain she had been struck but when the heat and ache didn’t surface into her being she felt confusion seep into her mind then Iaman spoke.
‘Iarodan. Shut up.’ Her voice was cold and firm, tucking her head downward into her clinging flit the tall, strong figured brute hide from the smaller girl’s wrath however when the waterlogged girl took her wrist within her hand with the most tender of motions Quindrife felt herself stiffen and her face grow into an unreadable expression. ‘Let's go somewhere private. We need to talk, and you,’ Iaman gestured towards the loose blood soaked bandages at her knuckles, glancing down at her hands Quindrife avoided eye contact with the more petite candidate girl as her cheeks darkened noticeably from embarrassment and shame ‘need to be properly seen to.’ Why was she being so nice? This wasn’t like Iaman at all, normally the boy was so guarded and reserved, yet this Iaman was gentle and sweet. Was the person that she had met just part of the disguise she wore? Was this truly how the girl in front of her acted when she was at ease with herself? Glancing behind her Quindrife threw her sheepish gaze towards the lad that had been struck in the face just a moment ago. His arms were crossed over his head and the expression that claimed his boyish visage was one of emotional hurt, stroking the crook of her brown flit’s neck she sent him a mental command to leave. Chirping indifferently her unnamed flit simply ignored his bonded one’s request, he refused to let His be sad, she was never supposed to be sad she was his beloved Quindrife and deserved to be happy, no matter what. Tightening his tail around her neck the brown simply get out a hiss and pressed his awkwardly constructed body against her lean frame. This one was His, he would not allow the two people to harm her in any way.
Jerking her head up from the hiding spot from behind her flit’s overly sized wing the longhaired brunette knitted her brow together and chewed on the pouty bottom lip as Iaman spoke tenderly towards her twin then bolted from the water and quickly darted to where her clothing was. Tilting her head downward she forced her frozen limbs to move, the mud between her toes and the silt that gathered and caked to her ankles made each step unpleasant and bothersome as she very slowly followed the cross-dresser, all the while avoiding eye contact with her protective sibling. She wanted to say she was sorry but she wasn’t even sure if she could muster the ability to address him given her current shaken state.
One bare foot after the other Quindrife silently padded along towards Iaman, her large hands buried themselves around the warmth of her firelizard as if seeking comfort from the unnamed winged-creature. Making sure to keep her vision downcast the tomboy found herself a few feet away from the girl with her back facing her, Iarodan was so right, what sort of person would watch an innocent girl bathe. She was so sick, lowering one of her bloodied hands to the flat of her stomach Quindrife felt herself lurch forward with a heave, her nerves were getting to her and the warm bitter fluid that rose up her throat made that noticeable to the others around her. She was a complete wreck. “I am so sorry---” she garbled pathetically as the small amount of bile splashed to the ground and concealed itself in a darkened bush. “I didn’t mean to see anything…I really didn’t…please don’t hate me for being a freak.” The candid term that she always referred to herself as spilled from her lips as easily as the vomit only a moment ago had, it wasn’t difficult to see how the tomboy viewed herself when her happy mask was broken and disregarded, it was easy to see why she bonded to the ugly little brown that had refused to expect food from anyone but the girl. They both were ashamed of whom they were. They belonged together. A perfect awkward pair. The brown and his self-loathing lesbian partner.

The sounds of heaving drew Iarodan's attention. He turned just in time to see Quindrife keel over and vomit, and the sight shocked him into really seeing her and her condition. "Oh, my..." His face coloured with shame. He looked down and away, unable to speak, filled with remorse for his hasty actions. Yes, she needed to be told off - spying on his sister like that - but he had certainly been too harsh, and had probably frightened her. He toed the ground, uncertain.
Iamana knelt down beside Quindrife, gently pulling her hair back from her face. She almost flinched when Quindrife referred to herself as a freak. Though it had been masked with jokes, she had suspected that the tall girl didn't feel all that positive about herself; seeing it so severely confirmed made her feel a little bit sick herself. "A freak? Hate you? For the love of little greens, why would I hate you?" Confusion laced Iamana's voice, quite soft and gentle when she wasn't roughening it intentionally.
She sat down in a clean patch of dirt beside Quindrife, shooting a glance at her brother. Seeing his sheepish, forlorn expression, she rolled her eyes and gestured him down. "I suppose this place is as private as any. We'll get you dealt with, Quin - can I call you that? - after we talk a bit."
Iarodan sat down, arms crossed over his pulled-up knees, head down. "Listen. I'm sorry, Quin - I reacted without thinking." He turned his face away, refusing to look at her while he apologized. He did hate to say he was sorry, even when he was. "What were you doing in those bushes, anyway? How did you know we were here?"

The soft touch near her neck caused Quindrife to shiver ever so slightly, soft gray hues fluttered closed when the hushed words from the cross-dresser hit her ears. The sound was soothing in more ways than one, not just the pitch but the content of the sentence. Why didn’t she hate her, she was a disgusting creature, with such horrible perverted thoughts. Even know in the back of her mind between the gray twilight of self-loathing there was the tiniest spark of attraction and desire rising up through her body especially with the girl beside her tenderly pulling her long messy brown hair from her face.
“You don’t have to worry about me---” hoarsely whispered the lanky figured tomboy, her tenor wasn’t the falsetto gruffness that she wore as a mask, rather it was a timid sounding voice hushed with a sickened vice that crushed her throat with a fiery pain. Throwing her sights over her broad shoulder the brunette looked towards Iaman as she sat beside her. “Seriously, I am fine. It is just a superficial wound---” Quindrife tucked her battered and ripped hands into the large brown folds of her nameless flit’s overly sized wings in a vain effort to hide them from the other candidate’s vision, lowering her eyes the brute felt herself flush as Iaman asked a simple question. “Ah, yeah. You can call me Quin. I don’t mind it. Iaman”
Her shoulders stiffened into slabs of hardened marble at the sound of Iarodan from behind her, she couldn’t help but allow her eyes to drift towards the boy. Even though he was saying he was sorry he refused to look at her, he didn’t mean it. Not one word. Why would he be sorry, she was the freak peeking at his sister, he had every right to do what he did, and even more. He genuinely should have punched her in the face, shattered her nose or busted her lip, anything to make her pay for what she did.
“I didn’t know you two where here,” Quindrife answered flatly, her face sullen and kept downward, no longer looking at either candidates. “I have been out here since before sundown. I had no idea you both where here, I heard some noises so I came over here to investigate. I thought, shells if some candidates or someone I knew was skipping out after curfew I could get some dirt on them and lord it over their head.” Lifting her brown firelizard to her cheek the girl sought out his comfort, her face was pale and the corner of her lip twitched ever so slightly. “I didn’t mean--- I didn’t mean to find you like this--- I would never use this as blackmail! Never! This is something very important--- I didn’t mean to spy on you.”

"Blackmail is such a dirty word." If Quindrife chose to look over at that moment, she would see a small grin on Iamana's face, and her posture changed to one of complete casuality. "I prefer extortion." After a brief pause, she nudged Quindrife's shoulder lightly, trying to ease the obvious guilt she was carrying. "I suppose I should tell you my real name, then. If you're going to be in on it, you should have all the information." She stuck out her right hand, offering Quindrife an introduction. "The name is Iamana. Twin sister of Iarodan, daughter of Manarodan and Iasa of Keroon Hold."
"I'm actually a boy." Iarodan's voice pierced the moment, and as Iamana fixed him with a raised eyebrow, the colour in his face darkened until even the tips of his ears were red. "What? I am! I was just making sure..." he clamped his mouth shut over the rest of the sentence, trying not to embarrass himself further. Instead, he turned away, aiming for the small pile of clothing and supplies that the twins had brought with them; Iamana had only covered herself with a loose shirt and leggings, so her vest, belt, and wraps were still on the ground with their waterskin and intended midnight snack. It was the latter two things that he was after.

That expression. How could she not find herself blushing the faintest shade of pink? She couldn’t. The way that Iaman drew her lips together and formed the word ‘extortion’ caused a shiver to run the length of the tall brunette’s spine. Why was that so sharding attractive? Bringing her left hand up Quindrife brushed away her long unruly bangs from her hidden eyes---
ZAP!
The tiny gasp that was barely anything more than a slight exhale felt like an explosion erupting from the very core of her soul, the heated magma of exhilaration and breathtaking suddenness of the electricity flowing from her shoulder throughout her body caused the tomboy to simply go rigid. The other girl had simply touched her, gently coaxed her into casting off her chains of shame for but a moment. Yet the grin that formed on her sweat and grim stained face betrayed the panic that raged underneath the surface of her skin. Had Iaman felt that too? That jolt? The white hot--- something--- that just had just enveloped her whole being in a fraction of a candlemark? No! She wasn’t going to let her stupidity ruin yet another friendship, it was nothing. Nothing at all.
Pushing the corners of her mouth down Quindrife focused her attention on the outstretched hand in front of her. How did she miss that?! The fuzziness that was filtering her mind caused the tomboy to daftly lift her ripped and torn hand to greet that of the other female candidate‘s. At first her grip was firm, taunt and full of nervous strength. As the tidy haired, half dressed lass re-introduced herself Quindrife felt a tremble quake across from her elbow to her knuckles, loosening her hold immensely. Their hands were touching!
‘She is going to figure it out! She is going to figure it out! Just--- act calm--- don’t panic you ninny!’
For a moment the trimly built girl simply sat there in silence, her clear gray hues peered helplessly at Iamana. Iamana, that name was so much better than Iaman, so much more beautiful and appealing. Opening her mouth to taste the name upon her lips, the other half of the twin spoke out in a hurried, explaining rush. At that very moment Quindrife almost wanted to kiss him for causing a distraction to the moment. Shaking her head ever so slightly the troublesome candidate girl allowed herself to relax, she allowed herself to laugh. The sound that reached well into the night sky was whimsical and bright, the sound was simply a sweet treble.
“Rodan, you really didn’t have to affirm that! I actually knew---” her eyes darted just for a moment back to the girl beside her, a mere palm length or two away. “I could tell that you are a boy. Make no mistake, I never doubted that,” Quindrife dropped her tone just a half octave as she reached out with her calloused hand and brought a single finger up, and drew her digit across Iamana’s throat in a feather gentle fashion. “You however, I had my suspicions. You don’t have an Adam’s Apple. I mean---” jerking her hand away abruptly the long-haired teen hide her hands that were still pooling up with more crimson rivets against the sanctuary of her brown’s wings. “It isn’t too noticeable and you do a really good job of hiding it but there are times when you shift and your collar rides low. You might want to think about that.” Lowering her gaze the lean figured brunette couldn’t bare making eye contact any long and simply found herself staring at the ground once again.

Iamana blinked for a moment, confusion written all over her before it vanished. "You're incredible, you know that?" She flashed her a just-slightly-devious thousand-watt grin, shifting so that she was now sitting cross-legged beside Quindrife, leaning in conspiratorially. "You don't even know why I'm cross-dressing. And you're going to help me do it better?"
For a moment, she paused, her mind racing a mile a minute. Would she notice? Would she care? Could it be written off as a moment of exuberance? Yes, she decided, it absolutely could. So after no more than a heartbeat, she flung her arms about Quindrife's neck and planted a soft kiss square on her cheek. Before Quindrife could react, she'd wholly retreated, and even her brother wasn't quite sure if the light dancing in her eyes was from Quindrife's willingness to help, the enjoyment of seeing her flustered, or because she'd managed to get so close to the girl without showing any of her cards.
A skin hit the ground between them, followed by a bundle wrapped in cloth. Iarodan dropped to the ground, crossing his legs in a manner rather like his sister's, and creating a small circle of the three bodies. He unwrapped the bundle and exposed a few small, round, chewy cakes made of pounded grains and honey. "Here, Quin - you must be starved after all that excitement." He held a cake out to her, taking one himself and beginning to eat it with relish.
Surreptitiously, out of the corner of his eye, he continued to watch Quindrife. He found himself no longer worried that she would blackmail the twins, or that she would simply expose them. He was, however, curious as to why. He did some quick mental math, and found that the sum of all her actions was quickly leading him to one conclusion.
She held out Iamana's chair. She played the knight in the halls, when she'd been upset. And here, she had broken down entirely over what, a little yelling? Or the fact that she'd upset his twin...?
He smiled a tiny, devious smile to himself, and kept eating his honey-cake.

The expression that set on the tomboy’s face was completely comical as Iamana wrapped her arms around the girl’s neck and kissed her fully upon her cheek. In her seventeen turns of living never once had she felt the air leave her lungs in such a painful manner. She was going to explode, she was going to rip at the very seams, her stomach felt like lava and for just a split second her vision swam from the overwhelming emotions that surfaced at her touch. Her lips, her subtle praise. Oh shards this wasn’t good. “I--- um---” the blush that was sneaking up her neck and flooding her fairly pale face with colour and heat completely denoted exactly how embarrassed the muscular teen was regardless of how she attempted to hide the fact. “well--- you are cross-dressing for a reason and far be it for me to question why. You wouldn’t have told me if I hadn’t found you like this. So, I really don’t have a right to know why.” Her tone was suddenly defensive and shielded. It was true wasn’t it? She had tried to be friendly with Iamana before now and the girl had brushed her off at every turn she could manage. If it wasn’t for her stumbling across this information she would still be just as frigid and distant as she was before. The girl didn’t really want to be her friend, she only wanted to keep her secret safe.
Folding her arms over her chest the lanky figured brunette sat, stoic with her nameless brown flit crawling across her broad shoulders, he too seemed suddenly distressed again, his eyes swirled with shades of orange and red and his long forked tail gripped so tightly against her neck it looked as if the beast would strangle her if he continued unchecked, yet Quindrife didn’t seem to be hazed whatsoever. When the flask hit the ground between them the lean figured brunette tried to soothe her own nerves but no matter how she spun the facts it just seemed like she was being played.
‘Quin - you must be starved after all that excitement.’ Iarodan’s voice crept into the Weyrbrat’s mind, at the very least he was genuine and had attempted to befriend her from the start. Reaching out with her battered hand the longhaired brute claimed the offered honey-cake and brought it to her lips, she honestly didn’t want to eat, she felt hurt, betrayed, and sick. She wouldn’t ever be able to have female friends. Ever. Even female friends that dressed like boys. She was cursed.
“Thanks Rodan,” she lamely muttered then bit into the moist confection. It was decent but the taste was almost too much for her and she knew fully good and well that it would sit too heavily on her stomach if she swallowed. Setting the rest of the cake upon her kneecap she spat the chewed up mush into her hand then held it for her brown to dine upon. “We all should be going soon. It is getting really late.”
