Personality: Lorend has lived up to her name-sake. Being the one to terrorize her older sisters, she is very much the tomboy of the family. She waits until they are all dressed up and then sneaks something in to freak them out. Mainly she doesn’t understand why they want to wear dresses and giggle about the boys walking by. As a child she often played and rough housed with the local boys. Lorend herself sticks to shirts and pants; her hair is never longer than shoulder length. She is very stubborn about that and other things.

Born in Ruatha’s climate, she’s much more use to chilly, wet weather. Lorend finds it much harder to adapt herself to Ista’s hot and humid climate. It frustrates her when she takes longer to do something she’s use to. She is a girl who likes to do things her own way. Her greatest tactic is her powers of persuasion and reason. Lorend uses her mind to work out a logical reason she should be allowed to do something. She’s not trying to snoot authority; merely that she believes her way to be better.

When someone hears her name, they often think she’s a boy. Lorend has tried to play along with it as best she can. Dressing and acting very boy-ish at times. She has a bet on with herself to see how long she can keep someone thinking she really is a boy.

History: Lorend’s parents are minor holders that look to Ruatha Hold. They are very proud of the crops and animals grown for the noble hold. She has two older sisters that she got along with most of the time. Lorend was usually the one to torment them with creepy crawlies. Her name is a point of amusement for her family. It really wasn’t her fault. Her father jumped the gun when she was born. He was hoping so hard for a boy that he named her before realizing Lorend was really a girl. The name ended up sticking.

In her 15th Turn, excitement rippled through the small community of her father’s hold. A blue dragon and his rider had arrived. There was a Clutch on the sands at Fort; he was on Search for likely candidates. It didn’t take long for him to notice the holder’s youngest daughter, who was eyeballing his dragon. Arrangements were made and Lorend found herself whisked off to the adventures of the Weyr. She stood for the small clutch with quite a few other hopefuls. Lorend was disappointed, but not really surprised, that she wasn’t chosen.

After the Hatching, it was decided that Fort Weyr had too many candidates for their small clutches. They offered to send some of their candidates out to other Weyrs. Lorend was sent to Ista Weyr. Just before she left Fort, she received word that her mother had birthed a healthy baby boy.
