So now that infestors have become much more used these days in ZvZ, I'm finding it harder and harder to win mid to late game against players that make a fairly large number of infestors, the fungal growth just slaughters my army composition, regardless of size or units I find.

Mutas, lings, blings, roaches, hydras, fungal growth eats them all up along side the staple roach army.

Is there a way to counter the roach infestor play in ZvZ without just going infestor roach yourself and trying to out micro, and fooling around with the right number of each?

Seems odd, that the only way to counter that one build is to do the exact same build, somehow better.

PvP kinda feels like that too. Unless you have really good positioning with force fields, a lot of PvP is who can make the better comp with good micro on stalker immortal.

I feel like you could counter it with broodlord and a ground force, but that requires a whole another tech than infestor does. I could possibly see you holding out with spine crawlers, since they do +armored, and you hold off with your roach infestor with spine crawlers while you tech up to broodlords. Last I checked ultras also do extra vs armored, but I haven't seen them used enough to know if they are actually any good.

I go Roach/Hydra and do fairly well. The key is to know he has Infestors before the confrontation and make sure you focus fire them.

PvP i always see immortal collosai, and i dont have a real way of countering it. as for infestors you can either swarm with lings and ultras or try to flank them broodlords so they cant protect them as far as i know.

all Starcraft matchups have been like that, (with the exception of SC2 TvT): "who can execute the same build better." even in Broodwar, every single mirror build has been the same. of course, the reason why people use it is because it works.

unfortunately for you in lategame ZvZ I think I would just stick with standard Roach/Infestor. early to mid game is where you can vary things up a little bit with Speedling/Baneling.

you can try Immy's strat and do Roach/Hydra. it just won't work on people who actually know how to get Banelings.

Well, that's when it gets to that point, but the first few pushes are crucial, since you only have stalkers, and a few immortals.

I hate trying to counter a build with the exact same, build I know it's fairly frequent, but one would think you should be able to evenly combat a build with something different, I recently gave this new build some thought, and would propose it, as a full plan for dealing with the ZvZ metagame right now, gunna make a thread about it, and see what people think.

The best way is to know when they are transitioning into infestor and try to go for a timing attack with upgraded roaches (don't ever fall behind in upgrades in zvz, it will lose/win you games) before their infestors kick in -- it's a huge gas investment (150 for lair 150 for upgrade 150 per infestor, + have to wait til upgrade is 40% through before starting to make infestors).

once they're on the field, try splitting roaches, practice sniping infestors when you see possibilities. try hit + run, "juking" for fungals (it'll work better than you think).

With the recent patch, Infestors are quite a bit less powerful. in lategame situations, roach/hydra with just a few infestors seem to be the more popular option now.

Oh yeah, now everything has changed, this thread is a bit old, back when everyone was massing roaches and infestors, now it's changed quite a bit.

Now it's just a matter of surviving how stupidly volatile the early game is long enough to get into a mid or late game plan.

Oh my bad.

Early game's my favourite part. I hate ZvZ long-term. Though mid-game's fun too.

this may not be the response you're looking for, but i think in ZvZ you either win by microing better or macroing better. watch your replays of yourself microing blings and it'll... help integrate micro into your brain, idk ;P

or you can macro better -- you'd be surprised at how hard you could crush your opponents if you get a macro lead at an "efficient" rate.

pretty vague but zvz is wild and i am not in the best shape to offer to much advice atm, although zvz seems to be my best mu since i restarted laddering.
