It had been string after strings of missions given to the young assassin. Odd that he had been so popular but the Empire had seen the amount of balanced Failed and Passed missions by the Lee Legion's, that they continued to ask for his services.
He had not only just returned to a mission with SiMa Li, one that he had failed miserably and had SiMa Li recovering with very serious injuries. She had gotten them only because she had defended him. He was torn up and unwilling to take anymore but this mission, it had been directly ordered by his mother to take. He had his doubts about his mother right now, with her rumors, and the ones that Kiran had confirmed, though Huang couldn't make a move until he talked to Xiao.
He was a sitting duck and unless he wanted his mother to find out he knew about her, he had best still play along with her fanciful wishes. Such as this mission.
He read over the report before growling in frustration. he was paired with another fighter, A newer one that had just graduated, the report said to achieve this missions objective. Recon it said, and gaining information on Noble's movements. It was a simple mission and yet, Huang was still hesitant about going. Whatever, the empire demanded it, so he would follow it. Grabbing his pack and weapons he headed to the reports meeting location where he would make contact with the partner. He just hoped his partner would follow along, this time he would make sure not to make a wrong move so they didn't get hurt.

A purple figure made her way briskly down the forest path, mission report in one hand, butterfly swords in the other. Van had been on a number of reconnaissance missions before, as new fighters tended to start out with these. Although she had matured by miles since her Academy days, it was still easy for success to get to her head, and recent success in these types of missions definitely meant she knew what she was doing. Right? Van smiled grimly to herself and pressed on.
She had read over the report several times as soon as she’d gotten it. This time, it appeared that she was to work with another fighter, for the information they were seeking was of a more classified sort. This was good, since Van loved a challenge; the only obstacle would be her partner, if they disagreed on mission protocol. Huang-Fu, his name was. It didn’t matter that he was technically her senior—seniority didn’t mean very much to Van, if her interactions with Bataar were any indication.
Van hadn’t heard much of this particular fighter yet, though it appeared they attended the Academy at the same time for a while. The first impression would have to stick, then. As she reached the large jagged rock in the clearing, the landmark they were supposed to meet at, she noticed a tall Lunarian already standing there.
There was no hesitation as she continued her fast pace to greet the male, and even less hesitation still as she noticed he was significantly taller than her. Her violet gaze merely turned up. “You must be Huang-Fu,” the fighter stated firmly, but quietly, so as not to draw attention if anyone else was listening. Van sheathed her short swords then, a mark of the respect of an equal, before placing her now free hand on her hip in wait of his response.

Huang hadn't had to wait long for the other fighter when she appeared. Dressed in a nightly dark purple, Huang could admit at first sight that the other fighter was a dangerously beautiful. She reminded him of a Daphne flower, Beautiful and Petite and yet, it was consider one of the most dangerous of all flowers. Huang could only think that because the woman reminded him so.
"And you must be Lady Van." Huang cocked his head at her before looking her up and down. "A fresh recruit from the academy from what the report told me." Huang cocked his head at her before a tick worked its way into jaw, his face normally stoic and expression less expressed a serious doubtfulness in his eyes.
"Alright, Like the mission said, we're doing a recon mission on one of the enemies captains and the camp they've set up around the Sunken field." Huang frowned as he stared at her, "Are you up to it Lady Van? I suggest that we move through the woods here first and then make our way slowly using the woods as cover until we reach the grounds." He started to head to the woods he suggested, expecting her to follow along, he had after all more experience in the situation then she did.

Van folded her arms in amusement as she watched the other fighter look her up and down. She had at least had the decency to be more subtle about her own initial once-over. She wondered what was running through his mind right now as she waited. Did he think she was beautiful? Or was he wondering instead whether someone like her could hold her own on missions for the Legion? The fighter would learn the answer soon enough, when she heard Huang say her name and immediately associate her with fresh meat from the Academy.
She wasn’t that new, she wanted to say, but realized that the adage she lived by held true here as well—actions spoke louder than words. Van would simply have to prove herself on this mission. Still, it was difficult to smile politely as she did now to confirm her namesake and status. “Indeed.”
Before she could continue, Huang had already begun to speak again, briefly running through the mission objective and suggesting a line of action. Van found no problem with the proposal (going through the forest was the only way they could get there anyway), but found herself curious as to the reason he was questioning her. This mission couldn’t be that hard.
The woman’s smile broadened, and she gazed intently back at Huang, stare for stare. She refused to be intimidated! And she also was not terribly fond of his serious nature so far; she’d have to fix that. “Why are you frowning, Huang? We haven't run into any Nobles yet!” she asked pointedly, already addressing him casually and giving him a nickname. Letting her smile linger, she continued, “I’m always up for a mission.” Her tone indicated that she thought he was asking a silly question.
Moving toward the direction of the Sunken Grounds, Van turned once to beckon him to follow. “Let’s go, shall we?”

If Huang gave any indication that he realized that he was being rude as he looked her up and down, it didn't show on the stoic face of his. He had far more worries then to worry about whether he offended the woman with his assessment. For in fact, they were on a mission and he did take missions far too serious. Especially after what happened with Li. he didn't sigh to himself, though he really wanted to and didn't pay much attention to the woman's body reactions to him.
He didn't comment on the comment about her fresh recruitment though her tone said otherwise. It was best to see her in action before he assumed that because A report said she was new to the fighter world, she had no knowledge. Assuming things as his brother said, usually made a a** out of U and me (get it a** u me rofl). Pushing the thoughts aside, he made his way through the woods, listening intently for enemies. He wouldn't be surprised if there were a few lurkers around the closer they got to the base camp.
"I don't frown." He said, looking at her with his stoic expression. To him it wasn't a frown just....not a expression able face. "And don't say that too early into the game Lady Van. The goddess may seem fit to change our luck if we get too cocky." Huang knocked on the trunk of a tree to ward off the jinx. It would be his luck that right after she said that, a hoard of nobles came out of no where. "Do you always talk so loudly?" Huang looked at her before looking farther into the forest, he didn't mean the comment to be rude but, he also didn't want to be caught. Instead he let her push past him for the lead. He would remain her back up since she seemed to know what she was doing. Though he wanted to tell her that the direction they were going in was a little out of the way of the path given to him by the report.
He remained silent behind her, constantly watching for enemies that might launch a ambush, his paranoia only rising because of the mission with Li. He didn't want to have the pain and guilt of another partner on his hands again. He already felt bad enough for Li, if anything happened to Van on this trip, he would feel ten times worst then he did now. He now let loose a small sigh before he noticed a landmark from the report that signaled they were on the right path to the camp.
"Looks like we are closing in soon." Huang brought out his weapon pointing to the landmark in a silent signal, "I say we should double around until we can see the camp from a higher location, if none can be found we should attempt to see from the branches of the tree's. I'd rather find out how many soldiers are patrolling around then run into them." Huang looked at her, would she agree with him?

It was Van’s turn to suppress a frown—it would appear that it took more than just a bit of playful banter to get Huang-Fu to loosen up, because his [removed](or lack thereof) had deepened into something even more serious than before. Seriousness was a good thing, in moderation, and it was something that the woman did know how to practice. It was just that, when someone was too serious, like Huang, the temptation to play with it was often too great for Van to resist.
Van decided to let his first comment slide. It was true that assuming often made an a** of people, and here Huang was assuming she knew nothing. But Van had done her homework, and she knew that it was probably inevitable that they’d run into nobles today. The next comment nearly sent the woman over the edge, though. She was not loud! Making a sad face, as if she were a puppy who’d just been kicked, she deigned to reply, “I’m not that loud, Huang! Though I can be louder, if you so wish.”
It wouldn’t do to get into a full-blown argument with her partner just yet, so for now she had to be happy with the passive-aggressiveness that was beginning. Stuffing the mission report into her pack, Van unsheathed her butterfly swords once again, taking a weathered path to the Sunken Grounds. It may have been the longer path, but it was certainly the quieter path—they had less of a chance of detection, with this route.
Silence fell upon the two of them now, as they tuned their senses to the wild, listening and watching for anything that would give away concealed Nobles. What they didn’t know, though, was that they were being trailed. Van had suspected it would happen at some point during this mission, but not so soon. She recognized the landmark at about the same time Huang did, and jumped when he spoke again; she had become accustomed to the silence.
Her face darkened when she heard what he was suggesting. The idea was solid in concept, but its practicality was another story, and her eyes took on a more serious cast, so different from before. “No,” was the first thing she said, before fishing in her pack again to reveal the map that came with the mission report, as well as one of her own. She lowered her voice to a whisper. “Look, we are right here,” she pointed to their location—they were close to the cliff that overlooked the sunken grounds (hence their name), “the camp is below. The captain knows he doesn’t have high ground where they are, which means if they’re expecting intruders, they’ll expect us first where you are trying to tell us to go. That gives them an early warning, as well.”
Moistening her lips, she thought about what she’d just said. Her logic was infallible in her eyes. “If we go right into the camp, it will take longer for us to be detected. I suspect the high-ground patrol will not be looking down on the ground for us, so we should have some element of surprise.” There was no way Huang could disagree with her now, was there?

If Huang had known that his face had been too serious, it probably would've deepened into a scowl, and quite possibly into a much worst face. Though if truth be told, how did you become more serious when you were already as serious as Huang? He didn't dwell on it, nor did the thought ever cross his mind. He instead was focused on not getting frustrated by the woman, no matter that she was indeed very frustrating.
He ignored her sad face, such woman sympathy techniques never softened him. Only those he had allowed close to his heart held the power to sway him with the sad eyes of a kicked puppy. He instead looked at her blankly, blinking slowly enough for dramatic effect before sighing. She was acting like a child. "I meant it would be wise for us to whisper to each other rather then exclaiming things through the woods like two rowdy teenagers out for a forest sight seeing trip Lady Van." Huang gave a mock laugh, "Imagine us explaining one: to the Nobles why we were here and two: our superiors why we got caught. All because somebody talked loudly." He slighted a glance at her before shrugging. If she made truth to her threat well...He would leave her in the forest to deal with all the nobles she would've so nicely called over.
Silence was like a breath of relief as they made their way along the path given and gave him time to think about moves to play a long the mission. He could tell his partner was a strong willed and fiery girl, he usually didn't get along with those types but, here she was. He listened to sounds of the forest instead to help the travel time pass, his ear fins we're always open for the sounds unnatural to the wood. When he spoke again, he assumed that she would take his suggestion well and frowned with surprise when she suggested something else.
He listened intently to her before the frowned deepened. She had a point and he scooted closer to watch her finger over the map as she pointed their location and the location of the Camp.
"Smart defensive." Was all Huang could comment on and kicked himself for not thinking it himself, he had gotten cocky with the string of successful missions and her outlook made him feel like a child relearning things. In no way was she at fault, and yet knew somewhere his ego was a little bruised that she, a recruit not fresh from the academy but close had come up with something better.
"A brilliant plan indeed." Huang grunted in response before looking down at the map, "Except that if we are to believe the Captain is smart enough to assume no one will try from the high grounds, then he would think that the low grounds would be weak in defense, I would think that they would double their guard along the area's where some sneaky mouses like ourselves could go in." His finger pointed out the locations where, if they were to take a low attack the guards would be stationed at. Scratching his chin he looked over the map and noticed a small band of blue, there was a river nearby? "Look here, What if we round about to the river and use it as a cover to sneak in, there must be a point shallow enough for us to get across without making too much sound and still being able to avoid the enemies." Huang looked at her for confirmation, "We'd still be taking the low ground path like you suggested but instead of walking blatantly in the camp, we'll be covered."

Van was clearly aware of the fact that she seemed to be poking a few of Huang’s nerves, and little changed in her expression as she placed a hand on her hip and shifted her weight onto her heels, so that she was leaning away from him. In anyone else it could have been viewed as an additional motion of disgust, but Van wasn’t one to openly display such an opinion so early into the game. She relaxed into an easy smile when she heard him retort, though, flashing a full set of straight, white teeth as if this was what she’d wanted all along.
A soft chuckle issued from her throat as she finally turned her back to embark on their mission. “I am merely teasing, Huang-Fu—not all words should be taken at their face value.” Her gentle laugh followed her into the forest, where it was quiet until the two fighters deemed it necessary to discuss their next line of action.
Both sides had offered their initial opinions, and the purple Lunarian was peering up at the other expectantly—expecting him to agree with her, of course. It was all Van could do not to visibly swell up with pride when he was forced to acknowledge her plan as he’d been so keen on discounting her earlier. The fighter kept her expression coolly under control, however, as cockiness now could easily come back to bite her in the a** later.
It did not take Huang too long to come up with a response, and Van, though mildly surprised, was not above ceding to the logic in his side of the matter with a curt nod. She would not be so easily overturned, however, and opened her mouth to continue to argue her point. “This is true. However—“ she stopped suddenly, belatedly noticing the thin blue line that stretched across the map in their hands. How had neither of them noticed it before? Then again, neither of them had planned on taking the longer path to the camp.
Van chewed on her lip, clearly weighing all of the options that had been offered thus far. They would be pressed for time, and further thought made the woman realize that this only meant that the window of time they would be able to enter the camp was narrower than before. The fighter nodded slowly, as if reluctant to accept this plan, but her reluctance was not due to pride, as her following words would show.
“Huang,” she said, reaching one gloved hand up to tug on his scarf and cloak. “You’ll need to get rid of these, then.” She pulled her own headdress off and stuffed it into her bag, along with other loose accessories. Looking up, she realized that she had to explain herself. She pointed at the sun, which, though on its descent, was still high in the sky. “Once we get out of the water, our footsteps will be easily tracked, especially under the shade of the trees where we—and our prints—will not dry off so quickly. Our clothes will be the major problem, so best to minimize it while we can.”
It was the kind of thing that only a woman like Van would think to guard herself against, but in this case, one had to admit that it would probably come in useful. “Let’s go. We will be most easily concealed if we make it there right at dusk.”

"Such games in the midst of war would get us killed Lady Van." Huang gritted his teeth as she mentioned teasing. Being that he didn't get teased often enough, he was never sure when someone spoke in humor, sarcasm or seriousness and instead always went with the last option. If he was serious well then, so was everyone else. Why bother saying it if it wasn't?
He was still studying the map, not registering that the other fighter had prided in her knowledge when she tugged on his scarf, drawing his eyes to look at her before stiffening. She was a little to close to comfortableness before he realized that she was validating a smart and valuable fact. Looking at his clothes, he realized too that the trek through water would leave a trail from them and sighed. Personally because the woman was here, he didn't want to undress himself but it was better to be safe then sorry.
"A brilliant idea indeed Lady Van." Huang only mumbled as he stripped his scarf, cloak and the larger pieces of armor off. Sighing he thought it best to remove the extra layer of pant's as well, getting rid of the puffiness and giving his appearance now a thin body suit outfit. His needles still tucked into his belt as he let her take the lead. He was impressed that she thought of this quickly considering that they had to change their battle plans drastically in a mere moment.
"All right. The fun is about to begin." Huang said with a straight face as he dipped himself into the water, so smoothly and quietly the only way to tell he was there was the small ripples. Not even a sound of disturbed water. The camp would be a few moments walk and then they could begin their spying.

This was what Van had been looking for. The woman had long since realized that her looks were assets, and had thus learned the nuances of male and female interaction readily. Huang’s apparent discomfort when she’d reached out to pull his scarf had been validation enough. He wasn’t completely immune after all. Van let go of the colored fabric quickly when she saw that the other fighter realized the truth in her statement. This did not, however, stop her from turning around and stripping the last of her outerwear off, a decidedly catlike smile adorning her face.
The fighter neatly folded the purple silk and placed the garments into her pack, before carefully balancing it on top of her head with one hand so its contents would remain dry as they crossed the shallow river. She knew she looked ridiculous, but her pride in herself was so great that a mere moment of non-beauty would not phase her much. Now, as she turned around for confirmation to continue the mission, she saw that Huang had changed into something of a dark body suit, not unlike the plain black form-fitting dress and leggings she wore now. “Hey Huang, we match!” she whispered, and the look in her eyes was that of mirth.
She didn’t think he’d like that, though, so she went ahead and slid easily into the water, noting appreciably Huang’s stealth as he followed her. His statement did not go unnoticed, and Van found it highly ironic that he could talk about having fun with such a straight face. “If you’re having so much fun it couldn’t hurt to smile a bit, you know,” was her offhand quip as they quietly waded across the river.
Some parts of the current were too fast-moving for the petite woman to simply walk across, and the ground was fairly slick beneath their feet, but eventually this did not seem to pose much of a problem. She reached the other side easily enough, and, after affirming that Huang was with her, began their quiet trek toward the Noble camp, which was a short ways away now.
Later, with her drying hair and clothes replaced, Van caught sight of the small settlement and stepped back several feet so they remained concealed in the forest. Whether they had evaded detection had yet to be seen, but she turned to her partner expectantly now, as if to ask, ‘Now what?’

Had he known that Van found it entertaining, or at least expected reaction from the fighter, Huang would've brushed it off as fanciful women whims. He was aware of just the jewel that was Lady Van in his company, he just chose not to flatter what he already thought of her...large ego. Flatter meant encouragement for her to continue what she did...which she did anyway.
Was this a lose...lose for the Fighter? He wasn't sure as his body glided in the water, gear stacked high above. It was cool as it seeped through his body suit, his skin cooling to the water temperature's. When they hit the banks and trudged their way out, he took a small moment to shake off and let breathed in, channeling the chi in his body to accelerate the blood flow in his body. He was a Lunarian who didn't like to be chilled.
"I find that your easy entertainment of our clothing to be so very endearing." He sighed before putting his gear on. "As you remarked earlier Van, Not all things should be taken to heart. I am not sure if Fun was the proper word to use, though use it I did." He sighed one last time before they made their way to the outskirts of the camp.
"Looks like there is a couple of guards. Either we can dispatch them or wait till they move from their post." He looked to the sky before smiling, a odd smile for the more serious Fighter."It will be dinner time soon though. And not many Lunarians like to be at post while their fellow soliders eat in front of them." His smiled darkened. "Do you remember what we came for? Recon and learning the next move of the Nobles. Let's slide in, get what we need and get out. I'd prefer not to fight it out as well...." He grimaced, "We are two against many."Kurama no Koishi SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG QQ

It was Van’s turn to remain silent, fixing her teammate with a rather mysterious, close-lipped smile before she’d continued drying off, pulling her outerwear back on. She was fairly certain these words were not to be taken at face value, either; for all of his sighing and well-concealed frowns could not possibly indicate endearment of her. The woman could have pointedly told him that he himself was not endearing, with his too-straight face, but where was the fun in that when her game wasn’t over?
As fighters, they couldn’t be too different. Sure, they’d come from different paths of life and likely held many different values, but when it came to fighting for the Legion, there was much less variation. In the end, they were on the same side. Unlike Huang, however, Van kept her emotions hidden behind half-smiles and deflected social conflicts in the very same way. She wasn’t clear yet on what area of expertise might require the man to maintain such a serious air all the time, but she knew that her smiles had always disarmed suspicions when she went undercover. At least for her, it was effective.
And perhaps, Van noticed as she turned to see the smile on Huang’s face, it wasn’t for everyone after all. His smile was odd on his lightly tanned face, certainly not one that emanated warmth, however sincere or insincere it was. With a straight face, there was no need to be an actor.
“I’d like to get home in time for dinner, myself,” Van murmured lightly, turning to follow the movements of the guards with violet eyes. Her tone was not serious; however talented she might have believed herself to be, there was no way she’d charge straight into a fortified camp by herself the way Huang had suggested as one of their options. Suddenly, she motioned for him to approach her current vantage point, before raising a finger to point at the guards leaving from their post as a dinner bell rang distantly. “Look, they’re moving. Our window is now!”
