i'd imagine that clip was from 2002, the year taker turned heel and was somewhat feuding with the rock. jericho was undisputed champ, taker was headed into the rumble, rock was challenging jericho for the title. rock lost, taker was shockingly eliminated by maven and then amused us all by kicking the living s**t out of maven all over the arena. rock and taker then faced off at no way out, where rick flair cost taker the match, leading into the taker vs flair match for WM18

oh, and the politics for that probably came in that triple h made his return from tearing his quad the first out of 2,000 times, so vince felt justified in capitalizing on the crowd turning trips face. therefore, the son in law had to get the belt. and besides that, who the hell else would job out to hogan at backlash?
