Winter was always a challenging time, less daylight, harsh weather, it made life hard at the best of times, however add on the frequent attacks and you were just asking for disaster. The infirmary always seemed to be full, which meant Sara had been spending long hours at the temple. Over the last couple of days she had been sleeping in her office, it was not the most comfortable place to stay - however she was close if she was needed. Her assistant stood at the doorway, bringing her in some tea. "Goodnight M'Lady." Smiled the young raven haired girl, Sara bowed her head giving her a grateful smile, she was a sweet girl, always helpful and caring. When the door closed behind her the conduits eyes drifted to her teacup. The steam was dancing on the top of the liquid, almost imitating the burning intense which was next to it. It gave the room a misty rose aroma, she found it soothed her.

It was late, or was it early? Either way outside was pitch black, she found that she had started to loose track of the hours. Day and night meshed together, now she just slept when she could. She had been keeping busy, like she said she would. He would be getting back soon, right? She tried to put it out of her mind, she found it was a lot easier if she just did not think about him. She did not know he would miss him so much, the first couple of weeks had been the hardest, since then things were slightly easier. However quite nights like this were the worst, when she just needed someone to talk to. Many times she just wanted to run to him Yurt, however she knew she would not find him there.

She looked down at the documents which were on her table, the candle light illuminating the room with a faint yellow glow. She had found herself working out finances, materials cost money and it seemed like donations were getting fewer and fewer as the weeks went on. It showed the state of the city, the war had caused people to become less generous as they grew more worried. It was not like the economy was good anyway, war did that, everything just seemed to halt and life was hard for all. She sighed and shook her head, standing up and wondering over to her window, the snow was falling gently outside. The first of the season it seemed - it was beautiful and more a moment it took her mind off of work.

Her pale eyes drifted towards the moon in the sky, and she wondered if he was looking too. Even though they were not together, they were still under the same sky. That was enough to make her smile a little.

Bataar approached the temple with a look of utmost uncertainty. The moon shone luminous in the sky above, its light filtering down to shine gently off of the snow. He had walked all the way here, boots crunching in the snow, when he hadn't been able to find the girl in her ger. Lights were glowing within the ornate building and he watched, his breath ghosting out in front of him. It was, he knew, not appropriate for him to be here right now-- not at this stage in the war, at least. No doubt he had been the cause of many of the wounded people within.

He heaved a ragged sigh and rubbed his face, pulling his hood down further to partially obscure his face before entering into the temple, eyes on the ground. Someone greeted him almost immediately, although it was with some confusion that they asked what he wanted. "Sarangerel." he muttered brusquely, following as the student, apprentice, or whoever it was led him down the hall without very many questions. Clearly, they did not know him here.

It was against Bataar's very nature to be here. The smells of illness and sterility saturated the air, making it hard to breathe. Beneath that, barely detectable, there was the smell of death. It must have been nightmarish in the summer months, but right now it was nothing the captain couldn't stand. All the same, it was the reason he avoided his allegiances' own temple when he could get away with it. There was too much wrong within the walls of such a place. It was hardly to be endured.

At last, the student bowed him into a small room, where a soul conduit sat, looking at documents. It was all he could do not to rush over to her beneath the confused scrutiny of the student's eyes. Eventually, she left, and they were alone. Bat found that he wasn't entirely sure what he ought to do now.

Her head turned when she heard someone at her door and a look of confusion spread across her face as her student entered. Something had to be up, after all it was very rare that Mao came to her so late. However before she could ask what was wrong, she saw a far too familiar frame follow her. Sara felt her heart stop for a moment and it took her a second or two for words to form, she dare not breathe in case she was seeing things. When the raven haired girl turned to make her leave, Sara's voice finally returned. "Moa." She called just before the door shut, the student peered around the frame, looking quite shy. She was always jumpy, especially around her masters. "Y-yes." She replied, her eyes on the floor for the time being. She did not know who the man was and she did not really like strangers. That much was obvious.

Sara kept her expression as neutral as need be, some might even say she looked rather stern. She knew Moa would not say anything, as long as she was told not to. The girl was easy to scare and often feared things for no reason, much like Sara herself did when she was younger. "I am going to take my leave for the night, I would prefer it if I did not come back to my students gossiping and making accusations about my late night visit. My business is my own." She stated, running her fingers through long stands of teal thread. Her tone was more serious than perhaps he was used to, but she was sure he acted differently around his men. "I would nev- I mean, Yes M'lady." The student bowered before running down the hall. The conduit waited until she could no longer hear the students feet before she stood up.

Sara finally exhaled, her body relaxing for the first time since the Mongol caught her eyes. She should have scolded him for coming here, beyond anything else it was not safe. However she could not bring herself to, she did not want her first words to him after so long to be negative. She instead smiled slightly, a faint glimmer to her eyes. She stood just in front of him, reaching up to grab his hood. She pulled it onto his shoulders and felt a strange sensation in her gut, she did not know if she wanted to cry or jump for joy. She stroked through his hair and for the time being remained silent, there was no words that needed to be said right now. In reality she was still coming to terms with the fact he was in front of her.

Finally after a moment she leaped up and wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face into the side of his. She held him tight, not tight enough to suffocate him, but tight enough to make it clear that she had no intention of letting him go.

She had so much she wanted to ask, however she was sure they had plenty of time to talk about that now he was back. She had missed him, more than she expected to. She almost felt like she was dreaming how, even though she could feel his skin, his body heat, his hair and the fur on his clothing she dare not beleive it true. She had gotten her hopes up many times before and a small part of her thought she had fallen asleep at her desk again. "Your home." Even though the city was in a state and not the best place to be around lately, it was where it was meant to be. Here with her, even though he really shouldn't be.

Bataar watched Sarangerel closely, listening to her command with a faint expression of amusement upon his face. He knew he shouldn't be at the Legionnaire temple, and that it was probably a grossly inappropriate thing to do as a Noble captain, but this was where he'd come. Precautions did, understandably, have to be taken. He watched as the student departed before turning back to Sara, his eyebrows slightly raised.

He couldn't help but grin back as she lowered his hood and ran her fingers through her hair, looking more relieved than anything else. That was because over all of this time his feelings had not changed. He wrapped his arms around her, closing his eyes and breathing in her scent, a shaky look of relief adorning his battle-worn face. "I missed you." he whispered, feeling a lump rising in his throat.

Bat pulled away slightly from the embrace to press a kiss to the soul conduit's forehead, noting that he was feeling so relieved he could barely stand. Or was that the feeling that kept creeping up on him lately? The one that made him feel as if just expressing simple emotion or walking up a flight of stairs was going to be the death of him. He found unhappily enough that his breaths were short, and he pulled completely away from Sara with an apologetic look before sitting down upon the edge of her cot to catch his breath.

Why in the world was he so damned winded? Whatever the case, he was distressed, not to mention mortified. Such a thing shouldn't be happening-- not in the middle of his reunion with Sarangerel. Any time but this would have been alright, but right now he could feel himself flushing, embarrassed at the fact that he was feeling so weak.

This felt strange. At work she was usually a different person, she found that people looked up to her and she felt the need to be strong. At times she needed to take charge, give advise and make decisions which could possibly lead to the death of a patient. She had learned to be strong, for the sake of those who were younger and less experienced. This temple was where she usually closed off her heart to people, where she wore the mask of a conduit. Though now she felt like herself, she felt like the shy and excitable girl who she was around friends. Her students would probably be shocked, they saw her as too formal and polite to ever show such physical affection to someone. Or to have her heart race because of a simple touch. It was hard to think your masters as people too, to think even they had the capability to fall in love.

She closed her eyes and held on, feeling his arms wrap around her, holding her close to him. It felt reassuring and comforting, she remembered how much she missed just letting him hold her. Feeling his strong arms on her skin, admittedly she still got excited whenever they touched. Goosebumps came onto her skin and her blood seemed to run cold, more so now they had come back together after so long. As he moved her arms slid down from his neck, long slender fingers finding their place on his chest. It was then she noticed something was not quite right, his breathing was different and his heart beat was irregular. She blushed slightly as he kissed her forehead, her eyes watching as he pulled back away from her. A concerned look coming to her face.

She tilted her head as she sat down, she knew something was wrong. Had he come back because he was ill? She told herself not to worry too much, for all she knew this was as simple as a cold. She was unaware at the time how serious this illness was, or how close it would bring the Captain to death.

The conduit wondered to kneel in front of him, placing herself as close to his feet as she could. Resting one hand on his leg she reached up with the other to place it gently on his cheek, his skin was warm to the touch. Her eyes showed her concern but also a little bit of excitement, he might be a little under the weather but that did not mean she was not still in shock about the fact he was here with her. "Bataar, what is wrong?" She asked him, her voice and gentle as it always was with him. He was not the strong warrior he was when he left, she had noticed the worn look in his face and the tiredness in his eyes. Though she decided not to comment on them, despite everything he was still her Hero.

Bataar himself could be described as coldly professional in front of his men, although he tended to relax around them and consider them as friends whenever it came to bars and such. They risked their lives far too much together to be completely cold-- that was just the way it was. They continued to respect each other, but they all required the bonds of friendship with each other. They needed know they could trust each other, and sometimes that was the only way. Just because he was a captain didn’t mean that he could act higher-than-thou, in Bat’s opinion. That was just how these things worked.

Maybe it would be a lot harder to respect each other now that he was sick, though. The man grimaced weakly as he clutched onto the bed, his hands white-knuckled. He knew he must have looked terrible compared to his usual self. Generally he looked very strong, not to mention scary to most who tended to end up crossing his path. Right now he knew he must have looked like a shell of a man, and certainly very ill. He felt very ill, if that was any indication.

He looked down at Sara as she kneeled in front of him and slowly shook his head. ”I’m not sure.” the man confessed, placing his hand over the one she’d put on his leg. It made him feel a little more secure, to be honest, but for the most part he could only admit to feeling a very deep-seated worry. There was no way he could defend anyone, let alone Sarangerel, in a state such as this.

Bat’s breathing finally slowed to some extent and he gazed at the soul conduit, not sure how he should explain himself. This was a problem that had been increasing lately, and he knew it wasn’t any sort of poison. Poison didn’t affect you like this. The healer at the Noble temple had told him it must have been some sort of virus, and that he ought to recover, but the man hadn’t sounded at all certain.

Whatever it was, it was extremely debilitating. ”I think I’m not well, though.” he admitted, reaching forward to brush her bangs out of her face. He’d be just fine, wouldn’t he?

Sara's eyes kept focused on him as he reached down to brush the hair out of her face, in truth she had missed it in some odd way, no one else seemed to do it with the same affection that he did. Where as others just wanted to look at her scar, he wanted to look at her. She wondered what was the matter with him, it was not like him to get sick but at the end of the day he was only human, the bit that worried her was the fact that he admitted to not being well - it meant that this had to be something serious.

However the North was a harsh environment, with any luck this illness of his would just turn out to be something as simple as the flu. In any case, Sara did not think he should be out of bed, he seemed like he could barely stand at the moment, he needed to take care of himself or the road to recovery would be long and hard. "You just need some rest." She stated standing up and pulling his hood up over his head. If they were going to walk out of here together, then he would have to keep his head down. Though she doubted anyone would be up at this time, even priests had to sleep.

She then wrapped her hands around one of his oversized arms in a attempt to pull him onto his feet. He seemed in no fit state to fight with her, so with any luck he would just stand. "Come on, I will walk you home. Afterall, this is the last place you want to fall asleep." He was in no fit state to travel on his own, they both knew that. At the same time Sara knew he could not stay here, it simply was not safe. If he had to use her as a crutch then so be it, Bataar was big but not impossibly heavy. He actually seemed to have lost some weight if anything. She made a mental note to make him something to eat in the morning.

She smiled at him, he might have been ill but he was not a bother. She just wanted him to know that, no matter what, she was still glad that he had come back to her.

That he still felt the same way.

Bataar gazed candidly down at Sara's face, quiet for a moment. He didn't view her scars as a deformity at all and merely liked to see the entirety of her physiognomy. It was comforting to be in such view of someone's face, and it made it much easier to read emotions. He allowed his thumb to linger for a moment, and rubbed it gently against her cheek, releasing a sigh. Things weren't as simple between them as they ought to have been, and that was one thing that made him grave.

Bat nodded in agreement as Sara prescribed rest, looking more than ready to comply with her wishes. "Yeah, you're probably right." he admitted, standing slowly after she'd pulled up his hood so that no one else would be able to discern his facial features or identify him as a Noble captain. He even failed to object when she suggested that she'd walk him home, which was probably a feat for the man.

The Mongol grasped her smaller hand in his own and proceeded to walk out the door, feeling both relieved and concerned. Sara would be here for him, he knew, but all the same they might both pay the price. He also found that he was worried about this oncoming illness-- there was something about it that made him deeply uncomfortable. It was as if Bataar had some gut indication of the things to come, and it felt as if they'd be extremely unpleasant.

"Let's go, shall we?" he asked, more confidently than he felt.
