So yeah I finally got the 1st Marimba part for the Front Ensemble , but my music is an extremely hard drum corps styled with crazy 4 mallet stuff and insanely fast runs. Also I also got a Marimba solo . . . . I'm a regular High School percussionist and certainly not the best.
Any tips on technique? My instructor always say i hit the keys like i play drum set.
and how to learn runs efficiently so I could engrave it to my memory (:
Thanks in advance c:
*By the way 5th year on percussion learning , 11th grade

yes,Hi. Well i'm not the best either but that's because i just started last year but i do know some things when you hit the keys hit the center of them to make the sound come up,and it's a very fun instrument to play and if just don't worry about messing up ypu can just do the most or simply your own best

The way I learned runs was by taking them at a comfortable tempo (obviously under tempo, but not at like 50 BPM) and I just worked my way up to tempo. With fast runs I keep my mallet heights low and I make sure my wrists and grip aren't tense. With perms I just practiced it the same way. Worked for me. biggrin

The most mallets I've ever played with at one time is 3, but it is doable. It requires holding two in each hand with your middle finger between them, so you can change the distance between them.
Make sure when you hit the keys you bring the mallet back up fully. It lets the sound ring more. I'm fairly certain that's what your director meant by his drum set comment. You do have to hit them differently.
Most importantly, trust your muscle memory. Practice a part often enough and you'll find hands almost moving on their own, without you needing to consciously think the notes.
Yeah, I'm a seasoned mallet player. Been doing it for over 7 years now. 3nodding
