Has Dark Matter Gone Missing?Quote: If a new study is true, then the search for dark matter just got a lot weirder. Our little corner of the Milky Way contains no observable concentration of the mysterious stuff whose gravity binds the galaxy, claims one team of astronomers. That finding would present a major problem for models of how galaxies form and may undermine the whole notion of dark matter, the researchers claim. But some scientists doubt the reliability of the team's method for measuring the elusive substance.

Unhappiness Is in the Eye of the BeholderQuote: A smile and a frown mean the same thing everywhere—or so say many anthropologists and evolutionary psychologists, who for more than a century have argued that all humans express basic emotions the same way. But a new study of people's perceptions of computer-generated faces suggests that facial expressions may not be universal and that our culture strongly shapes the way we read and express emotions.

Saturn's "UFO Moon" --The Odd, Baffling PanQuote: Strange flying-saucer-shaped moons embedded in Saturn's rings have baffled scientists studying images transmitted by the ESA's Cassini Spacecraft. Research suggests that the oddly shaped moons, Pan and Atlas, are born largely from clumps of icy particles in the rings themselves, a discovery that could shed light on how Earth and other planets formed from the disk of matter that once surrounded our newborn sun.

I must remember to read your recent posts, soon, but I wanted to stop and tell you that I am working my way through Stephen Hawkings second book and there's no one that I'd rather discuss it with.

Matasoga I must remember to read your recent posts, soon, but I wanted to stop and tell you that I am working my way through Stephen Hawkings second book and there's no one that I'd rather discuss it with. I'm unfortunately not very familiar with Hawking's work yet. Which is his second book? I probably haven't read it yet, but if you'll tell me I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy so we can discuss it as I'm sure it would be a great conversation.

Saber Talawyrm Iconoclast Enthusiast Unhappiness Is in the Eye of the Beholder That's really fascinating. Agreed! The idea that some basic emotions are universal has been the foundation of a lot of psychological research over the past century or so, so I'm very interested to see further research into the ways culture effects our emotional makeup. This could signal a huge change.

You know how Christians that don't even know the teachings of their own bible irritate... Well, really both viable sides of the argument? I refuse to be one of those. I decided that I will do my best to read and understand what I consider to be the ultimate truths. I feel that I should hold myself responsible for reading it, if nothing else.
