The slums were nasty, no matter the time of day. The streets were littered with the filth of the lowest of the lowest class. Dogs could be heard growling and barking loudly, shouting was more common then hearing birds chirp, and sometimes a shot could be heard ringing out above it all.
But Remi was here. Dressed in dirty khaki slacks and a ripped cotton shirt she clutched to her aunts hand tightly. Her hair was bound high up on her head covered by christy galles cap.and her scared green eyes looked around at the filth in mixed horror and awe. She'd heard about the slums before, they didn't live that far from it and it wasn't that difficult to hear of the rumors that haunted the dirtiest part of town, but Lizzy had demanded Remi never set foot in here. So it was no surprise that when Rem begged to be taken Neena shrugged, told her to stay close, and took her one day when she was babysitting.
Now they were headed to the marketplace, where Neena did her dealing. The cat demon was excellent at spotting stolen goods. She haggled the thief into selling her the item cheap, and then went to find the original owner forcing them to fork up more then she had paid for the returned good, sometimes even alerting police to who had done the nasty deed for another hefty some. "Remi, you need to stay within eye range. I need to keep an eye on you. You may be dressed like their children but it doesn't take a genius to notice you aren't from here. Someone might decide to cause some trouble and though I've got some pretty quick reflexes I'd rather stop a problem before it's started."
Nodding Remi smiled up at her aunt. "I'm so excited! I want to see it! Are there really children everywhere you look?!"
Looking down at the child Neena gave a grimace. "Yeah Rem...just about everywhere you look..."

Tevadi scoured the ground of the marketplace, picking up any pieces she found accidentally discarded in crevasses of the rocks and dirt. She wasn't having much luck today. Only one piece was in her grasp, grimy, covered in a mixture of dirt and something sticky. Looking around quietly, Tevadi looked back down at her wayward piece and spat on it, trying to clean it off the best she could with her tattering clothes.
Stuffing it into her pocket, Tevadi looked around for a stall that sold cheap bread. It was all she could afford with her measly piece without wasting it, but she was content with that. Bread was good, and a couple days worth of bread was even better. So long as she could at. That was all that matter.
"Bread, bread, soft, warm bread," She hummed quietly as she walked around, taking in the stalls. She looked longingly at some of the sweets and fruit stalls. Strawberries, blueberries, peaches and apples. Candy, peppermints and taffy. It all looked so good.

Finally they were among the strange business of the marketplace. With so many stalls Remi was lost in her wonder and easily slipped from her aunt's grasp, not even blinking an eye when the woman began stalking the shops and started travelling farther and farther from the child in her care. At that moment she was caught up in her little fantasy world.
She could smell some baked goods, not nearly as wonderful as the bakery not far from her home but still delightful all the same. Her eyes kept being distracted by shiny jewelry or strange objects that moved in odd ways and made her imagination create dozens of ideas of what they might do. She heard the bartering between customer and shop keep, yelling when someone felt cheated and the noises of a whole bunch of people in a small space. It made her excited and while she had started slowly wandering around she found her little feet padding faster and faster as she tried to find which stall would be her favorite.
It didn't take long but the path wasn't exactly straight. She had to weave her way through people, bumping into some which caused voices to shout after her and slipping around items and some kids. Everytime she spotted a child she beamed brightly at them and considered stopping to chat but continued on. After she got her goody she'd be more then able to come back and make friends. Maybe they'd even be able to play together until Aunt Neena was done! She giggled as she thought of the look on her mom's face when she found out what she had done today. If she was lucky her mom would let her come back again some day with her permission! For now she had to have fun just in case she couldn't for a long time. In her pocket was a handful of change for whatever she wished, thanks to her aunt who knew the scent child would eventually cause trouble. Remi paused slightly at a sweet stand but shook her head before moving on. She was looking for baked goods not candy. Though some of those candies made her think on her friends and she smiled again before focusing on the stall she had been searching for and dashing as quick as she could over there. Boy she couldn't wait! Maybe they'd have cupcakes!
