All weyrlings will please report to the Star Stones immediately. Kivath's deep, steady voice reverberated through the minds of the young dragons. You will bring the riding gear you have made in your previous lessons.

L'ren stood near the Eye Rock, looking toward the Red Star. It was visible, a pulsing malevolence dominating the sky. It was just after dawn, and it hung low over the horizon. He couldn't take his eyes from it. Today... today was big. Today was important. Today, he might lose a weyrling.

The hands hanging by his sides clenched into fists. They would listen. He would make them listen, make them understand the risk they were to undertake. A dragon's first flight... if one had not stretched properly, if some dragon was unprepared for the sensation of free-fall or powerful updrafts filling his wings, the worst could happen.

He would prepare them.

He turned, schooling his features into a friendly but ungiving expression, and waited for the weyrlings to gather.

Kivath calls! We are to meet him and his at the Star Stones. You are to bring your riding gear. Mine! Today we fly! The bronze felt that in the months since Impression, he had trained his very well. Indeed, they had not been late to a single lesson, unless they counted the first. (Gereth never did). He was proud of his; having understood his was a hatchling, just as he himself had been. Today was the day! Their very first paired flight.

R'yn had never been a morning person, but at Gereth's loud and impossible-to-ignore voice, he rose, stretching. "Fly?" he repeated, only having caught half of what his beloved bronze had said. "Kivath's calling us?" he guessed, watching Gereth. His dragon was far too excited for it to be anything else. He quickly got dressed, wondering briefly if they were late again. They hadn't been since their very first lesson--but there was always a second time for everything, right?

We are not late, Gereth informed his rider with great diginity. His asked everytime. Didn't R'yn trust him? The sun has just started to come up, the bronze continued, nudging his rider. Come now, or we will be late.

"L'ren!" R'yn called, waving at the Weyrlingmaster. "Good morning."

L'fir was so used now to Bocaith's loud summons in the mornings that it only took the blue calling him once for him to wake up. As the lad got ready Bocaith was being as fidgety as usual. L'fir ignored his dragon as he paced, shuffled and rustled his wings impatiently. Miiiine, Bocaith whined as L'fir purposely took his time to annoy him. You take too long, Mine. We will be late. Kivath and his will refuse to allow us to take part. We will be punished horribly and it will be no fun at all. L'fir ignored Bocaith as he continued to wail of their misfortune should he not hurry. He was used to it by now and the dramatics rarely did more than ring a slight smile to his face.

"We will not be late, Bocaith." L'fir assured the blue when he started to repeat himself, running out of complaints eventually. "I've not let us be late before, I don't plan to start now. Come on." Having decided he'd drawn it out for long enough the Blueweyrling headed towards the lesson, with a happy Bocaith with him.

We will fly today, Mine. Do you know how fun that will be? Think of all the games we will be able to play now that we can fly together. Bocaith happily chattered as he bounced along beside L'fir. Bocaith's energy didn't seem to be fading with age and usually his bonded travelled far too slow for him so Bocaith would often dart ahead, to the side, behind L'fir. Generally circling the lad as he walked. In all honesty L'fir at the present moment couldn't think of any new games. Luckily Bocaith had the usual memory of a dragon, so he hardly got bored with them often. He still adored the game they had played together before he had even hatched. L'fir liked it too, simply because it required very little physical effort from him. When they reached the lesson L'fir greeted those there with the same silent nod he usually did. He may know the people, but that certainly didn't make him chatty. Bocaith, now that they were made to stand still again, began to fidget once more.

Ticene, you must wake now, Mine. Kivath calls, we must attend our lesson. Calith gently spoke to her sleeping rider. Well, soon to be rider anyway. She did dislike waking the girl, she looked so peaceful when she was asleep, but it was necessary for them to attend their lessons. Calith had learned after the first that letting Ticene sleep a little longer wasn't worth them being late. The dragon watched, with a hint of amusement, as Ticene murmured something and pulled her bedfur up over her face in an attempt to block out the news that she must awaken. Very well, Mine. If you do not wish to fly with me, I am sure it can wait.

That was enough to cause Ticene to get up. "That's today?" She asked as she climbed to her feet and rubbed at her eyes. Her body protested to her being forced to move so soon after waking. Calith confirmed that that was indeed today and reminded Ticene to get all their riding gear before she left. With much yawning, blinking through sleep-blurred eyes and pausing breifly to stretch Ticene was finally ready. Once she was ready Calith rose from her own bed. Arching her back the young dragon stretched before the pair left the barracks.

"Good morning." Ticene called as she reached the lesson, Calith walking along beside her with her usual silent grace.

Kaila was studying early when she heard Maith sit up from sleeping. Mine, Kivath calls. Leave your book! We fly today! Her green dragon seemed very excited about the idea of flight while hers was a bit cautious about it. The girl shut her book and grabbed the riding gear while Maith ran out of her room. Kaila sighed and ran after the green, Kiric flew behind her.

"Kiric, do not steal anything." Kaila was trying to get the gold flit to stop that. The flit merely chirped at her before flying away.

Once they got to the star stones, Kaila was out of breath after running with Maith to meet the weyrlingmaster. "Morning-g, L'ren. Morning, Kivath." She tried to keep her stutter down and sighed, catching her breath with a look at Maith. The green seemed very hyper at the moment.

"Is it just me or have you gotten fatter?" A'lin grinned as the brown lump grumbled at her before turning his head towards her. Since you are awake, we are being called for. Servith stood up and stretched before moving towards his partner's bed and nuzzling at her form. Come, we fly today. The brown had indeed gotten bigger and the girl still liked to complain to him about his size every morning. But he was still growing! "Who woke you up?" She teased, scratching at an eyeridge before pushing herself up off the bed. The girl had been up long enough to get dressed and wash her face. After becoming a weryling, she'd learned to wake up early so she could get Servith's food ready for him by the time his hunger woke him.

"Wait..we're flying?" Emerald eyes blinked before they widened. "Together?" Together. Servith snorted in amusement before pushing her towards the exit. We must go now. There is no need to be late. Nodding, A'lin glanced over to Ereni who was still sleeping on her furs, twitching slightly, but probably still sound asleep. "Okay, okay. I'm going!" Chuckling, she turned back and led the brown out, only stopping to grab the riding gear they'd worked on in earlier lessons.

Letting Servith lead her in the end, they reached the star stones after a few of the others, and she greeted them before resting her eyes on L'ren and Kivath. Flying huh? There were bound to be risks, which is probably why the brown rider looked so serious underneath that friendly expression. Shifting the gear in her arms, she listened to Servith greet his siblings in an almost grumpy manner before settling down next to her.

It is time! Mine it is time! T'rin tried not to groan at his dragon's obvious excitement. "Time for what?" He mumbled, pushing the furs from his body and getting out of bed to stretch. We fly today! Together! The bronze had grown and the fact that the boy could already imagine him bouncing up and down in typical excitement was amusing enough to get a quiet laugh. T'rinmine! Why are you laughing? This is serious! You shall be flying with me! The bronze's eyes whirled in concern. Wasn't his rider nervous? Excited? Anything but amused! "Nothing, Leoth. And I trust you will do fine! You pay so much attention during all the lessons." A hand reached out to pat the bronze head before quickly getting dressed.

A blue flitter chirped and emerged from the furs before chattering at T'rin in a bit of annoyance. He was trying to get some sleep here! Curling up once more, he let himself fall back to sleep after a quick brush of the boy's fingers against his hide. He still needed to figure out a name for the little guy.

Leoth had certainly been a good influence on the boy. He wasn't as quiet as before, and seemed to smile more often. It looked like the rather talkative partner had managed to pull the boy out of his serious facade. And in all honesty, it was fun. T'rin could finally relax and do things he'd wanted to. Not that he didn't still have his serious side, far from it. There were still times he returned to that somber version of himself, especially when the mention of Thread was roused. Oh yes, he took those sorts of things seriously. But, for now he just focused on getting Leoth and himself through Weyrlinghood.

After getting dressed and calming Leoth down just a bit, the two hurried towards the Star Stones with their gear in hand. Well...T'rin hurried after Leoth who's bulky form was trying to get to the lesson as quickly as possible. As soon as they arrived, the bronze rumbled a greeting to everyone. He was so happy to see everyone again! The boy nodded his own greeting before shifting his attention towards L'ren.

N'rin had been awake for quite some time. At first he'd just been staring at the ceiling before rolling out of bed and getting dressed. After that he check on the bronze flitter he'd received from R'yn. The little one still didn't have a name, but he'd figure one out soon enough! Eyes caught sight of the riding gear and a grin slowly made it's way to his face. If he thought about it, today's lesson would be the paired flight. Hopefully. That was one lesson he was excited around. Finally getting to fly with Tomoth! Just as that thought crossed his mind, the brown in question twitched before shifting in his bed to look over at his. Kivath calls. He grumbled, still not liking the fact that he got woken up now and then by these lessons. Tomoth pushed himself from the bed and stretched before moving closer to N'rin. "Today we fly together?" It was posed as a question, but there was no doubt in his mind. He said to bring our riding gear.

Had it not been just after dawn, the boy would've let out a whoop and jumped around a bit. But since it was so early, he merely let his grin grown before grabbing said gear and motioning for Tomoth to follow him. "What are we waiting for? Let's go!" While the boy was excited, the brown wasn't as sure about it. It could be dangerous after all. And it had been almost scary the first time. Oh yes, he wasn't as excited as his. So he made it know, complaining with each step they took towards the lesson.

However, N'rin just brushed it off and pressed on until they joined the rest of the weyrlings and managed to push himself over to R'yn and Gereth. "Morning! He offered up, glancing over as Tomoth plopped down all dramatic like next to him. Was he going to pout the entire time?

Be awake, mine. It is time for lessons. Cath's voice brought S'laigh slowly out of sleep. She blinked once, twice, and smiled lazily. The sun was shining; the day was bright and beautiful. She stretched under her blanket, enjoying her slow waking process.

MINE.

The sharp, sudden, and rather loud exclamation in her head shocked her, and she fell out of her bed with a yelp. "Shards, Cath, what is it?" She sat up, rubbing the back of her head where she'd whacked it on the edge of her bedstead.

We have lessons, mine! Cath moved quickly around the end of her bed - S'laigh was constantly amazed that his growing size seemed to increase, rather than decrease, his footspeed - and nosed at her foot. We learn to fly! We will fly together, mine! It is important! We should be first - we should go!

With that information, S'laigh went from half-asleep to a fast-moving whirlwind, ripping off her nightgown and slipping into trousers and shirt as quickly as she could. Within five minutes, she had her hair brushed and tied, riding gear in hand, and was bolting toward the Star Stones.

She was not the first there, but she didn't think she was the last, either, which could certainly be worse. She offered the Weyrlingmaster a short, friendly wave, and was stunned when he didn't return it. It sobered her; the usually lighthearted and fun-loving Weyrlingmaster had an air of seriousness about him, and it made her realize just how dangerous what they were about to attempt really was.

Just because a hundred, a thousand, a hundred thousand dragons had done it before didn't make it safe, by any means. She swallowed hard, nervousness suddenly apparent in her frame. She left one hand on Cath's broad neck, drawing support from the comforting presence of her other half.

We'll be all right, won't we, Cath?

We will be wonderful.

R'rick was already awake when the call came for the weyrlings to assemble at the Star Stones. Fair weather or not, he was always awake just before dawn, and for the past sevenday he'd had his riding gear prepared for their first flight lesson. It wasn't in his nature to be anxious, and if anyone asked he would deny being eager - he was just prepared. Always prepared.

I am pleased to find you prepared, Mine. Now we can arrive early and show the others our skills. Tieth's tone held a hint of frustration with his rider. His had never been late to their lessons, but he was constantly second-guessing himself. R'rick had never expected to be a rider. Tannery was the only thing he'd ever seen in his future, and when he'd been told he could Stand - well, it was a shock to say the least. He wasn't sure he could live up to such greatness as being a brown rider, but Tieth was quick to encourage him. Now he decided to get a head start, before R'rick had the chance to grow anxious before the lesson. Everyone will admire us, Mine. Do not doubt yourself. We will fly higher and faster than everyone.

R'rick reached to pat the dragon affectionately at his reassurance. His confidence was growing, thanks to Tieth. Sometimes he thought the dragon forgot that he wasn't a bronze. As he moved to leave, he felt a familiar weight on his shoulder. Dunn, his flit, chittered anxiously and nuzzled the rider's cheek. He sent repeated images of himself on the teen's shoulder.

"I'll be back when I can, Dunn. Don't cause trouble." A green blur of movement zipped between his legs and then darted around over Tieth's head. Ketta chirped repeatedly, as if she were excited about R'rick's lesson. She flashed images of bronze dragons in flight, and the rider frowned at her. "Don't encourage him..." he mumbled, "and keep Dunn from getting into trouble." The brown flit was nearly as unfriendly as his owner's dragon - though, thankfully, not big enough to cause as much trouble.

Tieth snorted at Dunn in annoyance. Mine! We are leaving now! He shoved R'rick to the door and didn't stop nudging him with his head until the teen was walking at a pace fast enough to please him. As soon as they were within sight of others, Tieth changed his posture, raising his head proudly and eying the other weyrlings with a challenging looking. It was likely that all of them remembered him from the hatching. He'd made quite a scene - mauled a girl, scattered the candidates, only then to plop down before R'rick and declare his strength (and hunger). It seemed his goal was to be noticed, whether in a good way or bad didn't matter. Now, though, his R'rick would shine. The boy was attentive, intelligent, and a fast learner. That was why Tieth had picked him, of course. He was the best candidate.

The blue flit Terran was aware of the weyrlings gathering the moment the first few left for the Star Stones. K'gus, however, was hard to wake - as he was quickly finding out. The flit had been given to the weyrling just before he'd left his crafting hall. Terran perched on the sleeping youth, chirping and nuzzling at his cheek. His chirps grew louder as the boy continued to slumber, not even stirring as the slight weight shifting on his broad shoulder. However, both flit and rider jumped at a sudden outburst.

MINE! It is time to rise. Not that sort of rise, as you are not a female - or a dragon -- but you must leave your bed! Do human females rise? I wonder. You must find out for me.... It is time to learn to fly!!! I am excited. Let's go now. Why aren't you moving??? I will move you.

With that last bit, the young bronze took the hardly conscious rider's shirt in his mouth and gave a harsh tug to jostle him. "Hm?" came the sleepy rumble from K'gus as gray-blue eyes adjusted to his surroundings. "Ruseth, it's hardly light out...." His voice was hardly above a whisper, but nearly as deep as any noise his dragon made - and he did not sound content. He was a giant of a young man - both larger and older than most of the weyrlings. It was a shock that he had been searched so late, as he was no longer even a teenager.

Hurry, Mine!! Even the little one knows this is important. We are already later than many others, and we must hurry to Impress them with our skills. I find you very Impressive. Now you must Impress the others.

The puns pulled a tired, short chuckle from the rider as he rose and gathered his gear. His shirt was disheveled and wrinkled - but he'd fallen asleep in his clothes, so he was at least decent already.

Do not make me drag you, my K'gus. After all I am -

"I know what you are, Ruseth." Though the statement was blunt, his tone held a hint of amusement - and affection. The rider quickly ordered the flit to stay behind, as he was all too prone to follow along when he thought the young bronze would do something amusing, then he hurried to meet up with the others.
