Zephyr poked his head up. Saddly, his neck wasn't long enough to see over the tall grasses... yet. Frusterated, he stood up, looking around. He was in the middle of a field, right where he had fallen asleep while his mom ate. But his mom wasn't there anymore. Realizing this, he looked around more frantically. There was no one. He was completely alone. At about four months of age, he had stopped drinking his moms milk, but he still needed her. There was so much to learn! Now Zephyr grew angry. He started stopping the grass all around him, throwing a temper-tantrum. How could his mom just up and leave him! Ears back and very unhappy, Zephyr runs towards the woods bordering the field. He had to find his mom. It was as simple as that. She could not leave him.

Now, if he had been thinking, or maybe older and more experienced, he would know that he should stay put. That his mom would come for him. Maybe she was just going a getting a drink from a nearby stream? Or maybe she was off, finding them a herd to stay in together. But Zephyr was only four months old and he did not know any better. So instead he starts frantically and angrily calling for her, heedless of the danger he was putting himself in. Charging into the woods, he trips over a branch and his long, spindly legs collapse underneath him. He snorts, frusterated even more. But then he hears his snort again. 'The woods must have an echo.' He thinks. But then he freezes. The second snort had been deeper, and to his left. And he had definately heard a branch snap to his left, right where that snort had come from. He wasn't alone anymore.

Jada still hadn't found a place to stay yet, so she was still travelling. And she had travelled a long, long way. She walked through the forrest, lacking the drive to go anywhere. None stop walking and trotting, that's all she had been doing. Unless she heard a wolf call, then it was running. But all and all, she just never stopped moving for more than a couple of hours. And she had no where to go. No where. Tree after tree, blade of grass after blade of grass. Nothing. All though she had seen some pretty beautiful landscapes, but nothing to make her stay in one spot. What she needed was a herd, or a least some other horses, if not a full herd.

Moving through the woods at the slow pace she was at, she could hear many things on the wind, since she didn't make much noise herself. Bird calls, leaves rattling, horse calling, squirrels chattering- wait, had she heard what she thought she heard. She stopped moving and listened again. Yes, she definately heard a horse calling out to someone, but now that she was listening carefully, the horse sounded young. Very young. Moving faster, Jada started towards the call. Seeing light ahead, she stopped. She could see a horse-like shape moving at the edge of the field. Suddenly, the shaped went down. She heard a snort of frusteration. Jada let out a snort of laughter. This horse was definately young. Moving closer, she snapped a branch and it echoed around her. She saw the little horse go still. It had her, and she had scared it. Moving closer, she said, "It's okay, little one. I'm not here to hurt you. I heard you calling and you seemed lost. My name is Jada."

Zephyr's head swung around to the sound of a female voice. Coming towards him was a big horse, a big brown horse. And her legs were hairy. 'Ewwwww' He thought. But she had these pretty beads on that sparkled when they hit the light. Zephyr couldn't stop looking at them. They were sooo pretty. Zephyr was mesmerized by them. And before he knew it, the horse was right in front of him. But she was standing in a non-aggressive stance. And if she wanted to kill him, she could have already. He was still laying on the ground. He decided to trust her.

"My name is Zephyr and I'm looking for my mom. Have you seen her?" He asked, while getting to his feet. The thought never accured to him that she might not know who his mom was or even what she looked like.

"Your mother?" Jada askes. "What happened? You can't be more than four or five months old. She wouldn't of left you. Can you tell me what she looks like and where the last place you saw her was? I will help you look for her." Jada was very conserned. A mother should not be leaving her foal around here. There were wolves and mountain lions to be worried about. Jada had a very bad feeling about his mother being gone. No mother would leave its child willingly. Which means she had probably left unwillingly. Or had left and been unable to come back. Jada wondered if she would find a body somewhere.

Zephyr perks his ears. "You'll help me? Will you really? She's really big! Almost as big as you are! And she has black and white spots like me too!" Zephyr turns and starts happily trotting back into the field, convinced that he will be reunited with his mother soon. "Her real name was Flower, but she hated that name, so she went by Pepper. I once asked her what Pepper was and she said it was something that was black and white, so I guess that fit her." He stops in the field, finding the place where he had been sleeping and the grass was pressed down. "I was sleeping right here and when I woke up, she was gone." He turns to look at Jada again. With tears in his eyes, he says, "You'll find her, right?"
