I was looking for info for a friend who wanted to know more about my involvement as a judge for our county's version of american idol. I stumbled upon a pic on google of me with the other female judges (the lone guy must have run off that night).

Me. left. Angie, middle (one of my former students who actually pulled me into this competition as a judge), Kim right...the walking music encyclopedia.

I love Kim. She's so freaking smart it's crazy. She'll start talking to competitors and mention the composer and be all, "when I went to Cambridge his brother took classes with me and he was working on that song then" or "I worked with him on such and such song you should try that too". and we would just look at her and be all "I don't even KNOW who this composer is!" gonk

Then she'd use really big technical terms and the younger ones would glaze over so when I'd get the mic after her I'd be all "o.k. Imma translate for Kim now". And use tiny short words on the other end of the smart spectrum. We'd laugh and have a great time. I think this last competition we determined the word "swell" was a technical term by the end. xd That and "stool songs" are a genre in and of themselves, but that came from the male judge. He's got a stool fetish.
