On the way to Earth, and one of the primary reasons people don't make it there, Kareth's Cluster is an area of space filled with black holes and other anomalies, with very few paths through the deadly area. The center is dominated by a supermassive black hole, and the amount of debris it is always pulling in makes it visible from several light years away.
