Ships can vary from a one man fighter to a hundred thousand crew heavy battleship. They vary in speed based on civilian, military, mercenary, or alien design specifications. Faster then light travel has been around since before the founding of the Empire, and is the preferred means of travel when not using sub-lightspeed engines, or SLE's as they are called.

Lightspeed Drives are expansions to a ship's engine cores. They allow faster then light travel to be possible, and vary in speeds. most speeds are just around the speed of light, with military or custom drives capable of slightly faster, more efficient speeds, with less fuel consumption and drive charge time. Charge time is usually short for all ship types, but it is longer for civilian ships then custom or military ships.

Gravitron Fields: These beams of energy, similar to a tractor beam that is used for capturing a ship, can be focussed on a ship to keep it from going to lightspeed. High intensity beams can shut down regular SLE's as well, and when used with a tractor beam or boarding party, are quite effective.
