Nickname(s): Aren't something one gives oneself!
Age (Appearance Wise): 12
Age (Actual): Precisely 3 months and 23 days, though he fudges it and says four months. Soren, like many young children, both exaggerates and keeps meticulous track of his age in constant hopes of an oncoming birthday.
Personality: Soren was born lame and born needy. Being possessed of one arm and one wing, he finds it difficult to maneuver and is thus often forced to depend on others for assistance. This circumstance of birth has obliged him to be as outgoing and social as possible, and he has grown to need peoples' attention as much as their assistance. He longs for close friendships and the feeling that he is able to trust others as well as be trusted by them, which makes it all the more frustrating that he has to depend on his friends so frequently, as he often fears he'll become a nuisance to them. Thus, though he became outgoing because he needed help, often he'll try to figure out a way to do something he needs to do on his own or avoid doing it entirely rather than ask for assistance. It's usually a process to figure out how to accomplish these tasks, and Soren's patience and resourcefulness have grown because of this. He's clever enough for his age, and he can sit and wait much more easily than most twelve year olds. He is possessed of a great insecurity because of his deficiencies and because of the nature of his narrative itself, where the sister finished all the shirts to transform her brothers from humans to swans but the youngest's, who was stuck with a bird wing instead of an arm for life. The result is that he is often either clingy or anxious when it comes to people he cares about. He has a great fear of being left behind or forgotten, and it makes him somewhat jealous of attentions other people receive that he does not. He has an exaggerated sense of fairness, which he is constantly measuring the world by, or at least the parts of the world he comes in contact with. However, though he hoards attention, he is generous with everything else he has, in order to gain peoples' attention and affection, most often allowing people to take some of his feathers if he likes them, as they're a rare commodity. He's a generally cheerful and optimistic person despite his insecurities, and though he can get into moods fairly easily when things don't work out like he hoped or he feels neglected, he's got a sunny disposition and bounces back quickly. He can't afford to be negative for long, as he often needs peoples' assistance with things still, so when things are especially bad, he tends to sulk alone for a while, but pull himself out of his funk by going out and meeting even more people to distract himself. Because he bounces back from moods quickly, and because he needs to be, he is also incredibly persistent. When he sets his mind to something that he feels important, though it's easy to put him off temporarily if you knock him down, he will always get back up and try again.
Thoughts on the Forest: Lonely and frightening. Soren dislikes the forest and doesn't need to be told to steer clear of it, though some of his earliest memories take place there.
Thoughts on Book Children: Soren wants to be liked by all his peers! He prefers the companionship of Book Children to City People because they feel more solid and real to him.
Thoughts on City People: Soren tries to get on with all City People, but ultimately prefers Book Children. Though the City People are usually kind and pay him more attention than Book Children would because of his unusual features, their appearance unnerves him a tiny bit.
Physical Appearance: LOOK UP OR LEFT DEPENDING ON YOUR MONITOR, YOUNG MAN.
History: What first woke Soren was a persistent pain that chipped at his shoulder. He woke up perplexed and worried, feeling like he was missing something he couldn't quite place, and when he found the person poking him, rather than act frustrated, he clung to the welcome company. The other boy chirped and whistled like a bird, but odd company was better than no company, and Soren played games of charades with him for a while, first anxiously trying to secure a promise that this new boy wouldn't leave, then merely playing once he was assured of his friend's fidelity. Eventually, he grew anxious to leave, but unsure of how to mime that properly, he was relieved when he saw Avaturus flying overhead. He pointed at the birdlike thing to his bird-besotted companion, suggesting they follow, which he seemed eager enough to do. They were thus led to the book city, where Soren saw more people than he'd ever seen, all speaking his language instead. He had made a promise just as he had secured one though, and the boy he found in the forest was his first friend. He would not leave his chirping companion.
Hobbies: Problem solving, following others, I spy, exploring, meeting new people, spending time with old acquaintances, asking questions, and flapping his wing about when he's especially bored or waiting for someone.
Birthday: April 9th
Favorite Things: Bread, friends, holding hands, figuring things out, gifts both given and received, cozy, warm places, compliments, winning, surprises, and the colour blue.
Hated Things: People stealing his feathers, being taken advantage of, being alone, asking for help, games that require two hands, being told he can't do something, swimming, climbing things, crowds, and getting tickled.
Story: The Seven Swan Brothers
Favorite type of Ending: The kind where everyone is remembered.
Favorite Illustration: He really doesn't know enough about art to have one! If you asked, he'd probably draw you a picture of his friends.
Dreams: Soren would really, really like a second arm, but would also like to fly, since he figures he's halfway there already. He's the kind of person who wants to feel wanted and needed and who would probably really like a large family one day, but is still tentatively stepping out of the phase where girls have so many cooties.
