Dear Journal, Mommy gave me this diary to write it just for me! She says I can put everything I want in here and it will be like a friend. I can tell it anything I want and it will keep my secrets.
We live a long way from where I was born, but I have my own room now! The only thing I don't like about the house is Marcus. He's big and scary and he smells bad.

I know, I know, I haven't written in you forever. But I have a reason! After Mom gave me the journal, and that big speech about privacy and how the journal was all mine, that SAME DAY, she read it! She made me apologize to Marcus about saying he smelled bad (he did, the boy needs to use deodorant), and explained that really, nothing should be kept secret from her. Mommy knows best and all that.
Well, after that I decided I didn't trust the journal. So I hid it, and when we were moving I told mom that I tossed the journal into the trash cause I didn't need it. I guess she believed me, cause I haven't found signs of her snooping for it it my room, and I even used the lock of hair trick to see if she looked through you for my secrets, and nothing yet, so I guess she believed me.
Anyway, there is a lot of news to go around. We moved back across town to be closer to the Academy, which I will be attending with other metas, and not being homeschooled anymore! Marcus is a bit upset, but he'll get on the team at this district highschool, too. Mom bought a house just outside the academy, so she says I'll come home sometimes and she'll visit often, but it is super exciting because I'll get to live in dorms, away from Mom and Marcus, and away from Mom's snooping. I might even get to pick out my own clothes for once!
Anyway, I'll be moving as soon as I get my room assignment, so until then I have to pack carefully, and maybe hide you somewhere safe. Probably in a box my mom packed - she always pulls everything out of the boxes I pack and repacks it "neatly" but I know really she's just keeping her eye on me.
