Eyes wide and alert, ready to move should she need to, she bit her lip to quell her excitement as the male looked back at the tree. Maybe he’d actually do it? But then it was her turn to be confused, after indulging in her first full look at the male of course. He truly was so pale, his surprisingly dark hair making it stand out even more. She had almost expected it to be as wintery as the rest of him. Although, with the narrow steaks of white that framed his placid face, it reminded her now winter oriented mind of a snowy night. He really was out of place…

Her brow furrowed slightly as the cloak was handed to her, her magic ready to block the chill this time, before she realized what it meant. He had taken the bark, so he’d given his cloak. He’d given her his bark! This was even better than anything he could have said. Grinning up at the male’s expressionless face, she turned to hurry back to the tree with it even as he turned to leave. She had to make this quick then.

Reaching the tree, she spoke softly to it and petted the trunk lightly. Peeking over her shoulder at the retreating male, then back to the tree, she giggled and nodded. Giving the tree a final pat, she hurried to catch up with the male, giving the cloak a little inspection as she skipped along. Most of it had already warmed from her holding it, and it smelled strongly of the male. Not that his scent was that strong, really. It was actually pleasant, much to her surprise. Close enough to feel his chilled aura carried by the breeze, though it never actually touched her skin thanks to her natural magic, she stepped up to walk alongside him like before, just a little more than an arm length apart.

“Excuse me..” It was obvious the male was more than ready to leave. Like most taur, he was probably tired of her persistence. ..and she had just woken him from a nap. She gave him a grateful smile for his patience. “It accepts your apology, but a tree can’t do anything with a cloak. It will grow new bark after all. It wants you to have it back, so that you can remain protected.” She held the fabric out to the male. “The other trees will remember this too. If you would seek non-living shelter to nap against, it would be greatly appreciated.” She glanced at the cloak and her ears fell slightly. “I’m afraid I’ve warmed your cloak though. Be careful putting it on. ...And, thank you.”

Though he did walk a bit Triston walked slowly and couldn’t help but to look over his shoulder to watch the female. Was she really? Yes, she was going to the tree and was even talking to it. A rare hint of a smile lit the cattaur’s face before he turned away again. What an interesting female she was. It was almost a shame that she had left to go to the tree. Not that Triston would ever admit that of course.

And once again she surprised him. She was back? Looking down at her from the corner of his eye Triston made a soft laugh under his breath. Amazing. He kept walking, however, he did slow down his pace so that he could look back at her. Raising a brow the male made an inquisitive expression before looking ahead again. What was it now? Looking back Triston stopped before hesitantly reaching out to take the cloak back. So that was how it was then? Suddenly for the first time the cattaur’s mouth actually moved and soft words came out, “So you want…me to sleep against corpses then?”

And because of his calm expression it was hard to tell if he was sincere or just teasing her. Perhaps it was just a little bit of both. As it was he just laid the cloak over his shoulder where it warmed his shoulder.

With her hands free, they went back to hanging contently at her sides, feeling herself relax. Despite the male’s lack of words, his gesture had been enough to settle her mind. But then- Her eyes widened with delight as he finally, finally spoke. He did have a voice! One much softer than she had expected. How was it comparable to winter? That would require a little extra pondering. She had enough sense to not shriek with glee like a little girl, but the leaves along her arms turned toward the stranger as though they too were interested in his words. And such interesting words. Really, she couldn’t tell if he was teasing her. She preferred to think that wasn’t the case.

“When you put it that way…” Her tail hung slightly, feeling a little sympathetic toward the male, in her own way. To not be able to curl up under a lush green tree without causing it to freeze and hibernate? How unfortunate. She hadn’t thought about where else the man might sleep. Her mind tried to spin quickly, ears perking when it came to her. “Caves are nice.” She offered confidently. “Rock doesn’t mind being cold. And since you seem to freeze whatever you touch anyway, you must be used to hard surfaces. And it would be much more shelter from the sun than a tree is.” Pleased with her suggested alternative, she looked around and tried to remember if there was one nearby.

“…Though, if you’re intent on your corpses, trees grow old and die just like we do. There are fallen ones all over that I’m sure you could find to sit under.” A little smile hinted up as she tossed the suggestion of corpse trees back at him. Whether or not it was teasing, it was still an idea. Trees were useful even after their deaths.

Triston listened to her with faint interest. Glancing at her from the corner of his gaze again the cattaur was puzzled. Did she feel a bit bad for him now? What a silly thought. Just because he couldn't do something like that...well it wasn't like he had been doing such things all of his life. How could you miss something that you never really did much of? Maybe she was just feeling sorry for the trees he might have napped against.

That would make more sense to him.

Triston just shook his head with amusement at her suggestion. "I know." He replied quietly under his breath but nodded as if the knowledge was a new revelation. Most of his temporary homes were made in caverns, far away from the warmth of the sun. Hmm...maybe he was more like the corpse himself. And then back to the trees. Turning his face away from her Triston hid the phantom smile that lit his pale face at her talk of tree corpses. But was she just about the trees? "Bugs." He threw the word out there. Bugs and animals used those corpse trees would it be alright for him to freeze their homes? And them possibly as well?

Ears perking forward, she wasn’t sure if the male had actually said something, or if she was just hearing things. Still, he nodded, which was a good sign. But then he looked away from her, which was… well, who knew what that meant with this man.

“Bugs?” Constance repeated, brow furrowing slightly. “Do you not like bugs?” They were as much a part of the environment at the trees. Vital to it, even. Ah. Bugs and trees. Specifically, bugs within the dead trees. Was he worried about freezing the bugs? ....How adorable! “Bugs can get away from your cold. And once you leave, it will warm back up and the tree will be comfortable for them again.” The hint of his voice still wasn’t enough for her to figure out how it matched the rest of his chilly self. Maybe it simply didn’t?

A breeze rustled the canopy leaves and ruffled her hair. Reaching a hand up to smooth it back, she twitched her ears and nodded. “This way!” She said happily, reaching out to give his arm a tug. She stopped just short though, pulling her hand back and clearing her throat. His extreme patience was making her too comfortable with him. “I apologize… I forgot myself a moment. I know where a cave is for you to nap in though. It’s the least I can do for your cooperation.” Then she turned and continued down the path in the direction the striped male had been walking, slowing and peeking back to make sure he was following as she turned to cut through the trees along a small, worn path, where he wouldn't touch too many plants accidentally. Hopefully no one was currently using the cave right now.

He watched her expression with faint amusement. Ah, there it clicked. Still what she said made sense. Too bad trees couldn't do the same. Then again if all trees could move that easily then they would all be in trouble. Ears twitching Triston watched a butterfly as it skirted away from his cold skin to land on the female before fluttering off again. Seemed she really did have a point about that.

And it seemed that the touch factored into more than just insects.

He was slightly disappointed at how she pulled back. For a second there he was certain that she was really going to touch him. But no she pulled away just like everyone else. "No need." He commented under his breath before shaking his head. Oddly enough it was as if he was disappointed to see her pull back. Hiding his expression the cattaur swung his cloak back on and started to follow her.

For now he would amuse her and follow to this cave. Though really he was so close to home...well then again maybe a cave would be a good idea. Home exactly wasn't the best place to catch sleep after all. If you could even call it home anymore with everyone living there. Pushing those thoughts aside the cattaur focused on watching the trail, memorizing the way there should he ever come back.

Ears perking at a faint touch, she looked down at the little butterfly and smiled. How sweet of it to say hello. She peeked back at the rustle of the cloak, watching his face once more become hidden within the shadows of the hood. Had he spoken? Sighing, she turned to walk backward so she could still be moving while facing him to speak, the rustles of the leaves telling her where to step and where not to. “Do you realize how soft your voice is? I feel like I’m missing some of the things you say. So unless you’re insulting me, would you please speak up?” There was no need to beat around the bush with this male. She didn’t think she’d get an answer unless she was plain, which wasn’t difficult since she usually spoke plainly anyway. Still, her tone was simple, not trying to be insulting at all.

Then she gave him a smile and tapped a finger over her lips in a 'shushing' motion. “And if you are insulting me, ignorance is said to be bliss.” Suddenly, her smile dropped and she looked off to the side, stopping in her tracks. Frowning, she left the path without a word to the male, focused on her new destination. Pushing through the ferns, she found what she had been called to; a small section of woods where a fight had taken place and many trees had been damaged. Reaching her hand out to the nearest tree, she sighed and stroked it gently, and the torn trunk began to grow and mend.

Triston just blinked at her. He often just spoke soft because he hated other's hearing his voice. The cattaur just shrugged. Maybe he would try speaking up more, but only if he felt the need to do so. Still he didn't want her to believe that he was insulting her, "I'll try." He replied walking past her only pausing after he realized that she had veered from the path.

What now?

The cattaur watched as she went to the tree and began to mend it. This female...really was connected with nature wasn't she? He had never seen the like of it before. Sure he had seen others who lived with plants and the like...but such sorrow over some trees which had been hurt. It was something that was for certain. It almost made him want to do something. Looking to the side the cattaur started to walk away before pausing. No, maybe not that.

But he could....

His fingers reached out towards the group of trees and a light frost began to creep over the trees which she hadn't touched yet. Maybe it looked dangerous or like an attack to her, but the cold was calming. He couldn't hear the trees, but even Triston swore for a moment that he could actually feel the relief from them as the cold allowed them to sleep until they could be healed. Without explaining his intent the cattaur turned and started back to the trail. Maybe he could find those who had done this...but he wasn't certain. Still he wanted to check.

Her eyes were on the tree she was with, her companion temporarily forgotten. She could feel the trees aching for relief, so thoughtlessly injured, caught in the middle of a fight they had wanted no part in. So senseless. She could see one that had been so gouged out that its heavy top had fallen over and was too far gone to save.

Her chest felt tight with the pain of the trees as she moved on to the next one. As the wood fibers began to bind together, her ears perked at a change in the air. Cold? Head turning, she saw the glittering of frost along the wounds, the initial distress they felt at the cold, and then sensed… relief? It wasn’t total, but it seemed to be enough to sooth the sting of the wood and allowed them to rest until she could get to them.

Rather shocked, her eyes turned toward the mysterious male while still mending her patient. She blinked slowly as she watched him walk away after his aid was complete. But, where was he going now? Her best guess was that he was continuing to the cave, understandably impatient in the heat to wait for her. She didn’t have time to think about that though. Finished with that tree, she went over to the next one. Looking at the frost for a moment, her little frown relaxed a hair, thoroughly pleased by this surprising side of the wintery male, before melting the chill and mending the wound.

His hand reached out to touch the air. The currents spoke of a something disturbing their usual flow and the cattaur could find the intruders from that. Looking back over his shoulder his icy gaze softened a second as he glanced towards the area where she was. Surely she would be fine. If he didn't move now well then how could he catch up with them?

Decision made the male silently continued away from the other cattaur until he was completely out of sight of the path. Ears twitching Triston headed towards the loud noises and his hand reached back to grab the huge sword hanging on his back. His expression never changed from that cool exterior as he moved forward to clear the forest of its problem.

And once he was done well the cattaur was not the best with directions. He couldn't find the path and so with one last look back towards the forest left to go on his own once more.
