In GTS Negotiations you trade live, one on one, with the other trainers.
You can still use Pokemon in the party and in the PC.

I should also specify that you only have four buttons to communicate: a smiley face, a sad face, a heart and an exclamation point. Good luck trying to communicate effectively like that because seriously, it gets really annoying at times.
