Age: Twenty-Five
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Bi-sexual
Rank: Greenrider - Searchrider
Former Craft: None
Physical Description: Azrani is a slim thing who seems mainly bone with lean muscle wrapped around it. Turns as a dragonrider has meant that there is definition to the young woman’s form, but not enough to be called manly. Standing at near 5’6 Azrani is not particularly tall not extremely short. She thinks of herself as a nice average. Azrani has four parallel scars running across her stomach. The marks were received when she got in a rather moody hatchlings way and it took a swipe at her, the marks are thin yet still clearly noticeable.
Pitch black hair is kept in a short cut, close enough to be called a boy’s haircut. Azrani’s hair is never neat as the girl simply does not like it that way. It just feels odd to her. She may comb it out, only to then mess it up on purpose again. Luckily Azrani’s face is simply too feminine for her to be mistaken for a boy. To put it plainly; Azrani is pretty. Not stunning, not gorgeous, pretty. It is the innocent kind of pretty that lends a youthful look to Azrani’s ever smiling face. Azrani’s eyes are a blue dark enough that her eyes will simply seem black in dim enough light. If it weren’t for the cheerful person looking out of them Azrani’s eyes could easily be quite intimidating.
Personality: Age has done nothing to calm the wild energy in Azrani. She is still as energetic as she was when she was a child, only now there is a dragon attached. One of Azrani’s favourite things to do is race, whether that is on dragon back or against Videath herself. Azrani will often fly simply for the thrill of it; the girl seeks an adrenalin rush that only Videath’s break-neck speed and daring aerial manoeuvres can satisfy. As such safety is not her top concern. Oh, she will always be sure the straps are safe and that she is properly secured, but as far as flying goes Azrani is willing to try anything once, even if it is a risk. It isn’t that she doesn’t care for Videath or her own health, she is just certain they’ll be able to accomplish what they attempt.
A sprightly thing Azrani’s conversations seem always fast paced. She seems dull to other people’s discomfort at her excitable ways and will usually keep going until the person seems incapable of answer. It is then that she will realise that something is not quite right, instead of trying to figure this out she will simply ask outright. A lover of games Azrani enjoys playing against other people. It’s rarely for marks as the money doesn’t interest her as much as the game. Conversations with many different people has meant the girl has been taught strange little tricks that she does love to use with other people. Azrani’s energetic behaviour can be annoying to people and sadly the young woman has very few good friends as not many can handle being around her for long periods of time.
This doesn’t seem to bother Azrani too much. As long as there is someone to talk to what does it matter if it was the same person it was yesterday? She has Videath and that really is all the permanent companionship she needs. To this point Azrani has never seemed to express a want for a stable relationship of any kind. Perhaps it was caused by her mother pushing her to find a suitable husband that she doesn’t seek one out. It could also be that the female is so hard to pin down it would take one dedicated person to keep up with her. Doesn’t mean she isn’t happy to play along with flirting though.
History: Born in Benden Hold Azrani has always been just a little bit odd. The girl seemed to have far too much energy and not enough to do with it. She was endlessly difficult to pin down and constantly racing up and down the Hold. Not necessarily getting into trouble, just tearing up and down constantly. Azrani was fascinated with dragons from a young age, dragons and anything relating to them. It seemed the only thing the girl really knew that much about. The young girl sucked up information about dragons and their riders like a sponge and was happy to pass it along to anyone who asked. Which wasn’t many people, most simply saw the girl as a nuisance.
Over the turns Azrani grew older and her childish obsession was less tolerated. Her mother told her to forget such nonsense. Knowledge of dragons would not help her at all. She was to use her pretty face to attract a decent husband and have the life that was expected of her. Oh how they argued as the turns rolled by. Azrani grew older and pushed harder and harder at her parent’s restrictions. She would not become some timid woman like her mother and do as she was told. She was going to go to the Weyr and become a dragonrider. That statement was the first thing that Azrani had ever said that had caused her mother to strike her.
In that single act her determination solidified. She would prove that she could do this and she would. When she was fourteen dragons came to the Hold on search. Slipping away from her mother Azrani ran straight to them. Finding a rider the girl begged and pleaded for him to take her to the Weyr, but he could not tell her parents. At first he refused, her parents didn’t want her going he could hardly steal her, even if she did want to go. But Azrani would not give up so easily. She hounded the poor rider; he could at least let her try. Just once, let her stand for just this clutch and she would return home if she did not impress. Surely that would not be such a bad thing?
Eventually the rider caved in; somewhere between Azrani’s constant badgering and his dragon pointing out that he would have chosen her anyway. Azrani was taken to Benden Weyr and allowed to stand for the clutch. She was so excited that it was not until she was actually stood amongst the other candidates that doubt began to set in. She had promised she would go home if she failed, that would be it. Her chance would be over, she would have to give up wanting to be a ‘rider and accept the future her mother had laid out for her. This was the only time she would be able to succeed.
Azrani’s fear grew and grew as the hatching drew out. A small number of hatchlings spared her a glance before moving on and even more simply went by without even a look. What if she really wasn’t good enough? It was then that a soft voice slipped into her mind. Didn’t her Azrani know that she was always good enough? There had never been any doubt that Azrani was the very best. Looking around Azrani soon found the source of the voice. A thin, oddly shaded, green hatchling called Videath. Azrani instantly fell in love with the softly spoken green and never wished to be parted from her.
Azrani and Videath’s weyrlinghood went off without a hitch and the two were soon a fully fledged rider and dragon. Once they had graduated Azrani decided it was time to face the problem she had left behind. Taking Videath she flew back to Benden Hold to see the parents she had left behind. The meeting was tense. There were no tearful hugs and apologies from her parents for holding her back or from her from running away. The main person that Azrani had to answer to was her mother. The pair simply stood looking at each other for a long while, until her mother simply said that at least Azrani was doing something worthwhile with her life instead of cluttering up the Hold. Azrani knew that was as good as she would ever get off of her mother, who was too proud to ever admit that she wasn’t right about anything. With that burden abandoned Azrani and Videath returned to the Weyr to live several turns in piece.
When threadfall came Azrani offered to be transferred to a Weyr with less fighting riders. Benden had enough riders to look after itself and there were other Weyrs far less capable through no fault of their own. Benden had kept up at least the basics of thread fighting so the experience could certainly be used throughout the other Weyrs. The pair were assigned to go to Ista and agreed without complaint. Now the pair must settle into their new home and join the fighting ranks.

Dragon:

Name: Videath (Vid-E-Ath)
Age: Eleven
Color: Green
Physical Description: Videath is a strange looking dragon. Her overall colour could at first be thought of as sickly. There is a slight yellow tint to the green’s hide which makes the shade seem rather bright in comparison to other greens. However this is not the feature that draws the eye to Videath. Instead what draws attention are the dark green diamond shapes that run down Videath’s back. Each one is surrounded by a thin line of neon green; luckily the line is so thin that it is barely noticeable.
Videath is a long dragon. Long neck, long tail, long body. The length of her body makes the green appear thin, when in face she is very much the same as most other greens. It is merely an optical illusion. Videath’s wings are short, allowing her to perform quick turns. This green was built to fly fast and agile, not for long periods of time. This means she’s good at catching thread, yet she will never last a full fall.
Videath has a kind face, which is a strange thing to say for a dragon. The green’s head is slender and she seems always to be smiling, ever so slightly. She never seems to look sad and there is something welcoming in the way she looks at people.
Personality: Videath is a quiet dragon. She rarely speaks and when she does the sentences are usually short and too the point. Videath doesn’t feel the need for long answers if a yes or no will do fine. When she does speak it is a very soft and gentle sound. If people aren’t listening for it than it can be missed entirely, it’s like the green is constantly whispering from far away. Videath’s strangest habit by far is that sometimes she will choose to make a quiet hissing sound instead of actually speaking. For Azrani the sound is always in the back of her mind, the sound can be used to tell how Videath is feeling if someone knows it well enough.
A timid dragon Videath would rather avoid conflicts. If an argument is started then she would rather leave than be caught up in it. The green will outright flee if someone turns on her. Despite this Videath can be a dangerous thing when pressured. If she cannot get away or feels the need to come to Azrani’s defence then the green seems to change altogether. The timid behaviour is wiped away to be replaced with a hissing, sharp-tongued creature. This will continue until the situation has passed and Azrani has a chance to calm the green. If for some reason she can’t then the green will fly restlessly in circles above the Weyr until she tires herself out.
Despite her meek exterior Videath is an expert flier. She can easily match her rider’s energy in the air. A quick thing Videath darts through the air pulling off tricks that are sharp enough to make a person wince. She enjoys pulling off tricks and rarely every, unless in flight formation, will fly in a straight line. There is always the need for a loop or a barrel-roll somewhere along the line. What’s the point in her having wings if she doesn’t enjoy using them?
Videath is pleasant with other dragons. She prefers to listen than to speak when around other dragons. To Videath a good afternoon is lounging around, basking in the sun and listening to others talk about things. Little things that in the grand scheme mean nothing, but are still entertaining. Videath’s only problems appear when she is near rising. During this time the green is short-tempered and defensive. Everything has the possibility to be an insult. During these days it’s probably best to leave the green in peace. After having flown the green returns to normal. The amount of time she spends with the male varies. If he tries to stay with her then she will gladly let him, but if he leaves she is not concerned. However Videath will not be one of many. Although he may fly others from time to time she must be treated above those others, or else he will be cast aside.
