Eve was getting seriously worried about Howl, to the point of actually bothering him. From what she heard about Sophie, she knew he would taking her death hard. Hard enough that she felt like she needed to see him. So the stubborn ragdoll after her mother left for some gig with a starlet, ditched her would-be babysitter, Damin to see her teacher.

She figured he'd be in his castle and head there with Herion at her side. The shadow could tell his host was worried about Howl and went with her as her protector.

As Eve entered Vate's backyard, she would have found a castle that was enchanted only so certain people could see it. Otherwise it was completely unnoticeable. Eve was one of these people, seeing as she was his trusted apprentice. The castle hovered, and seemed almost feeble. It seemed even the castle mourned one of its own. (Of course it did, seeing as Howl's heart, quite literally, kept it running). The door swung open of its own volition, allowing Eve to enter.

Calcifer was there to meet her. "I was wondering when you would show up," he said with a touch of impatience. "He's there--" the fire demon gestured with a flame like arm. "Probably not up to giving you a lesson today, though. He hasn't said much today."

Though the fire demon sounded not at all concerned, the way he glanced towards the living room of the small house the castle was based in said differently.

Howl looked up, maybe sensing that he was being talked about. He forced a smile when he spotted Eve. "Hey," he said. "Sup?"

Eve would have been amazed at the sight of the castle if it didn't appear to be in mourning to her. She was impressed with the castle still. Eve went into the castle and blinked at Calcifer before smiling faintly. "I figured he wouldn't be a state to teach me right now, but I'm worried about him."

The ragdoll child wasn't fool when she saw Howl's smile. It appeared forced to her. "You've been worrying me, Howl. After what I heard about her, I thought I should check on you."

Eve looked at him and frowned, mentally thankful he was alive at least.

Calcifer fizzed in approval. "I am too," he confessed, before returning to his usual spot in the fireplace. He would allow the two to talk. Maybe it would be good for Howl--he hoped the wizard's little apprentice could make the teenager smile.

"Worrying you?" Howl echoed, frowning slightly. And how would Eve know? Oh, that was right. Her mother, Ivy, had some relation to a large group of vampires. Of course they would know what was going on with Adrian's family; especially since the man never hesitated to claim he was the lord of the night or whatever it was he called himself. Howl found he didn't care.

"I apologize," he said. "It wasn't my intent to worry anyone." It was nice to know people cared, of course.

Eve planned after seeing how Howl was, to stay till his smile was natural and not forced or full of pain. She understood he was in pain from Sophie, but she would not be a good friend or apprentice if she didn't try her best to cheer him up. She nodded at Howl, her mismatched eyes serious.

"Yes, I overheard Mommy talking to Louie about Sophie's death and I know how much you cared for her." Louie only knew about the girl's death because of rumors.

Eve took Howl's hand gently with a light smile, "It's all right, but you're one of my best friends and my teacher." The ragdoll looked Howl up and down, trying to figure out if he had eaten at all. She might be too young to cook, but she really didn't care.

"I found a recipe for black berry cookies."

"Hm," Howl acknowledged what Eve said with a nod. He had figured she would have found out through her mother. "They're having a funeral soon. I was invited. I don't know if I'll be able to go or not... Not like this. And if they ask me to speak about her..." he shook his head. He didn't think he would be able to do it. After all, he knew a different Sophie than the one Adrian knew. Gaia had changed her. Just as it had changed him.

Howl had eaten, but not very much. His stomach didn't seem to work properly, or that's how he described it. It felt like he had been out in the sun all day, and simply did not have the will to eat. He sipped at soups and took liquids, but he was more physically mourning than anything.

"Blackberry cookies?" he asked with vague interest. "You'll have to share it with me sometime."

Eve frowned weakly, "I understand that. If they ask you to speak about her, just tell them you can't." She sighed and reached in her pocket, taking out the cookie recipe that she thought would cheer him up. Clearly his grief over Sophie seemed to lesson his will to eat even anything with black berries.

"Maybe when you can smile for real. Anyway, sit down. I'll make some soup for you. You need to eat a bit more to keep healthy."

With that, Eve went to look for the kitchen as soup was a simple dish that her mother allowed her to make by herself.

"But what if they decide I'm good to eat?" Howl asked, frowning slightly. Now that Sophie was gone--what was keeping them from making him their next meal? He wondered if he'd actually mind being eaten. With Sophie gone...what was there for him to live for? He sighed. Was it really as difficult as he thought? What was the point in having power, if he couldn't use it?

"Nah, I'll make it," Howl said with a shrug. "You're not supposed to cook." He gave her a shadow of a smirk. "And I don't feel like soup today. Let's make those cookies, yeah? I've got some blackberries," he gave a flick of the wrist and a bowl of blackberries rested on the table. "What else do we need? Flour, sugar, water? What?" He led the toddler into the kitchen, seeing that she was looking for it. "Come on," he added. "They sound good, and I could do with something sweet."

Eve looked at him with a hard frown, "If the vampires felt any kind of family affection towards her, they would not disgrace her death by eating the one she loved." Eve frowned harder at him, "Also Howl, Sophie would want you to live. Don't you two have a son that needs his father, at least?"

However when he said she wasn't supposed to cook, the wise tone of her voice changed to a whiny one. "Howl!" Eve was getting tired of people saying she wasn't supposed to cook. Her mother allowed her to cook and sometimes Damin allowed her to though he acted like a nursemaid at such times.

Her annoyance at being treated like a child vanished when she saw the shadow of a smirk. Now if only it would turn into a smile. She was still annoyed, but at least he wasn't forcing a smile. She looked down at the recipe in her hand. "Flour, sugar, milk, two eggs per batch, and black berries," she read off, grateful for the reading lessons her mother had her do everyday.

as if she was some kind of worker in the castle. Dad said when he spoke to them, Sophie's mom didn't seem to know she existed. He said she gave Mr. Delauney a look all men fear. Dunno what that look was, but Sophie--" he hesitated and swallowed, "had a horrible one. Of course, she's even more beautiful when she's angry." Howl and Sophie had always been rumored to be happiest when arguing; and as with most rumors, it had some truth to it. It was how they showed affection quite a bit of the time.

He shrugged and sighed. "I suppose... Morgan was always closer to Sophie, though." Though he had never doubted the attachment he and Morgan had, he felt Sophie did better with him. Of course, it had been the opposite at first. Howl had had more experience with babies. "You know you're not supposed to cook, Eve. You're too young." He stuck his tongue out at her before fetching what she listed for the recipe.

"Milk?" He repeated doubtfully. Milk didn't usually go in cookies. He wasn't an expert, but... He put flour and sugar out on the cabinet, and then took out a carton of eggs.

Eve sighed, " I'm sure he cared for her very much, Howl. Though she's beautiful to you no matter what she looks like. Daddy's the same way with Mommy." Eve only knew how her parents acted, but she had read the book Howl came from. "Howl, you're still Morgan's father and he needs at least one parent or he'll be an orphan."

Howl seemed very good with kids, at least to the ragdoll toddler. However Eve was really tired of adults and teens saying she couldn't cook. Her eyes narrowed, "Why does my mother and Damin allow me to make soup sometimes or baked sandwiches? Only Faust doesn't allow me to cook at all." Even swore when she was old enough to cook, she wouldn't cook for anyone other than her family. She muttered about the stupid idea about them treating her like a baby.

However she stopped when Howl repeated one of the ingredients. She giggled, her annoyance and temper fading into amusement. "To dip the cookies in, Howl. What else would we drink with them?"
