Name: Vivian Ashlin.
Race: Human
Stage: Witchling (--> Cerberus Knight)
Gender: Female
Age: 22.

Ability Concetration/Theme:
(I’m not sure if this magic counts as too powerful or not; I’ve tried to include serious drawbacks to using it, but if it’s too much, I’d probably change it to light-based magic <3)

Enhancing

Vivian’s focus is on enhancing. By focusing on the conceptual properties of an object, she can enhance them -- thus, she can enhance a sword to be sharper, or she can enhance her own muscles to be stronger. She can also enhance weak concepts, such as enhancing the sharpness of a feather until it can cut, or enhancing the elasticity of the ground to soften an impact.

She can only enhance objects by touching them, and if she then lets go, she must continue focusing on it to maintain the enhancement; the greater the distance, the more strain it puts on her. She can maintain an enhancement through contact for about an hour, maximum.

The main drawback to this is that she's essentially a glass sword: a property in her own body is weakened for as long as she’s enhancing. The severity of the weakening depends on how much she’s enhancing the property, or the strength/weakness of a concept. Enhancing the sharpness of a feather would incur a severe cost, whereas enhancing the sharpness of a blade would incur a less severe cost. Likewise, enhancing the sharpness of a blade would cost less for a minor sharpening, and more if she wanted it sharp enough to cut through armor.

Most often, the cost hits the clotting ability of her blood, the strength of her bones, or the ability of her body to heal itself, meaning that she bruises spontaneously, breaks bones more easily, or scars easily, and if she’s been cut, she can lose a lot of blood unless she stops enhancing immediately. While she can enhance the durability of her whole body, that comes at the price of a severe delayed cost, meaning that after she stops, she’d continue to bruise or break bones easily for an equal amount of time.

As a Witch, she could enhance only one object by focusing. As a Cerberus Knight, she can enhance up to two separate entities simultaneously, though she can only maintain one constantly, and enhances the other in bursts. So, to get past her weakness, she usually constantly enhances the durability of her body, and enhances the effectiveness of her weapon as needed. Ironically, this makes her very tough during a battle, but she's in the most danger afterwards. If she's been cut, she starts bleeding very badly, and if she so much as trips, she could break her foot (or ankle, or leg, or hip...).

Visual References:

Height: 5’8".
Build: Lean and athletic; runner’s build.
Hair: Golden blonde, in a boyish pixie cut.
Eyes: Dark blue.
Skin: Fair, but she’s developed a golden tan over the years. She also has a lot of scars.

Clothing: Outside of combat, Vivian prefers practical clothing -- nothing that gets in the way too much, no long flowing dresses or ribbons. She's not unfeminine, as she'll wear ruffles, lace, skirts (provided she can run in them), and jewelry (as long as it's not long enough to be grabbed).

She always wears a simple gold necklace with a moonstone pendant, matching her brother's, though usually she wears it under her clothing or armor. She prefers the colors gold, red, silver, and white.

Armor: Vivian can move well in light to medium armor, and will always wear enough armor to be protect her vitals (in other words, she's very unlikely to wear armorkinis or purely decorative armor). This is especially important because it's easier for her to enhance armor than skin, and because of how easy it is for her to get hurt if she isn't actively enhancing her body.

Weapon: Vivian's favored weapon is a pair of short swords, which she uses to make rapid strikes. In combat, she moves quickly and prefers to be on the offensive, as being on the defensive or fighting for any length of time is likely to end with severe injuries. She's much more effective in short, violent engagements than in long, drawn-out battles.

Personality:

Vivian is much more vibrant and outgoing than her twin, being more likely to jump into something new and to be social with others. She's braver, more virtuous, and extremely determined, and she's honest -- she rarely even thinks of lying. While she will push and twist and bend the law, just a little, to ensure that justice is done, she still believes in it, and will uphold it to the end. Her determination to see justice done, and to prove herself, often lead her to be reckless, and her own difficulties with her magic have made her rather unsympathetic to the struggles of others. Still, she is, at her core, a good person, and she will always strive to be that way.

Brave +

Both on and off the battlefield, Vivian is the first one to lead the charge. Her confidence stems from knowledge of her own abilities, and -- more importantly -- her weaknesses. She knows what she can do and what she can’t, how to use her strengths to best effect and how to work past her weaknesses. No obstacle can stand in her way for long, and she will push past fear in even the most hopeless of situations. She believes in justice and loyalty, that she's doing the right thing and that there's no other way to ensure peace, and that conviction fuels her.

Of course, if that certainty is shaken, so is her courage. In a pinch, she'll always fall back on the one thing that has never, ever wavered -- her love for and faith in her brother. She looks to him for strength and courage, and has always found it.

Outgoing +

Vivian generally likes meeting people. While she might not always continue to like them once she’s met them, she will usually start conversations on her own accord, or go looking for work of some kind if she’s bored. She believes that people make or find their own luck, and she can only do that if she’s out and about. She especially likes to get to know strangers, and once she’s comfortable in an area or organization, newcomers.

She wants to make sure everyone feels welcome, and she does her best to be inclusive. When she goes to parties, she tries to make sure the person sitting in the corner has someone they can talk to and have fun around -- or that they have an opening to quietly slip away if they can't enjoy it. She's warm without being overwhelming, friendly without being pushy, and she does her best to make herself a good friend.

Determined +/-

Vivian wants to prove that she’s every bit as strong as other witches, despite the nasty weaknesses imparted by her magic. She hates failure almost as much as she hates giving up, so she works hard, pushing herself onward despite fatigue and injury.

This is a neutral trait, as she may be effectively slamming herself into a brick wall when she tries to get past an insurmountable obstacle. She will often take unnecessary risks, and she can be quite reckless in fights, because she's determined to prove herself, and she doesn't want to be held back by her weaknesses. While it's admirable in theory, in practice it's gotten her hurt more times than she can count, and she bears the scars of her stubbornness. Even so, she considers those scars a badge of pride, not recklessness, and continues to pursue self-worth in this way.

Rough -

She might be generally friendly and outgoing, but Vivian’s not exactly kind. She'll help up someone who’s fallen (physically or metaphorically), but she’ll tell them to be more careful next time and send them off, and she definitely won’t hold their hands through it. As she believes in independence and hard work, she also believes that people should be able to help themselves, or at least grit their teeth and bear it, and she has little sympathy for anyone who repeatedly asks for or needs her or others’ assistance. If her patience is tried, she’ll say as much -- and not gently. While she'll tolerate people who are weak or whiny for a while, especially if they're close to her brother, her patience can be worn thin very, very quickly. In a more physical sense, she has a tendency to just handle people roughly, from strong handshakes to playful shoves or slaps on the back.

Judgmental -

Vivian’s world is not exactly black and white, but she definitely has a 'There are X types of people in the world’ mindset, and a different way of treating each type of person. Within her own mind, she labels people or groups of people and slots them into neat little boxes, and then it’s rather hard for them to break the boxes she’s put them into. Once she's decided that someone is a certain way, it's hard to change her mind.

In a more direct manner, she believes that justice must be done. Criminals and Witch Eaters need to be brought to justice -- and she'll hunt them down to make sure that happens. She's labeled Majin as potential Witch Eaters, nothing more, and while the law prevents her from taking matters into her own hands, she would be unlikely to be friendly to or trust a known Majin. She won't try to circumvent the law, by acting around it or becoming a full vigilante, and she does feel remorse for killing anyone, even a Witch Eater. However, she will do her best to bring justice within the law's confines, even if that means tweaking the rules and working within a gray area while no one's looking. But she does have her limits, as she won't willingly participate in or even witness torture, murder, the commitment of one atrocity to avenge another -- so in the end, she's still idealistic and honorable, as much as she can be.

History:

Vivian and her fraternal twin, Arthur, grew up in Moonfall. Their parents owned a jewelry/gift store and were middle class, reasonably comfortable and able to provide for them. She and Arthur remained close through childhood -- closer to each other than to their parents, honestly. Although their home life was always comfortable, they were not a particularly close or affectionate family. As both of the twins showed inclination towards magic, they were sent to Makai Academy with their parents’ blessing.

Although Vivian struggled with many schools of magic, she persevered, and graduated ahead of her brother. There, their paths diverged; being harsher and quicker to judge, she wanted to help bring justice swiftly and decisively, to destroy the Majin who she perceived as manipulating. Her ability was always more combat-oriented, as it was magic that helped her, rather than magic that could help others. She was confident and stubborn, even reckless, and she joined the Reapers to pursue her goal of protecting the people.

Once she got there, though, she had a rather rude awakening. The Reapers were too extreme, as far as she was concerned; when they were out to avenge one atrocity, they were willing to commit another, and Vivian drew the line at that. With some gentle suggestions from Arthur, she left the Reapers and joined the Ars Lilium instead, desiring to prove herself in another fashion, with laws firmly in place to prevent any abuse of power or overstepping of bounds. She eventually rose high enough to join the Cerberus Knights, where she believed herself most at home.

Of course, she also found those very laws a little too restrictive, and she thought that tradition sometimes weighed down and held back the course of justice. Occasionally she made use of gray areas to make sure justice was done while still upholding the law. It's a dangerous line to walk, as she knows very well, but she's determined to stay true to her ideals while still managing to achieve her goals. Only time will tell whether she'll always be so idealistic.

While she makes acquaintances and friends far more easily than Arthur, and is a little closer to their parents (she writes twice a month, instead of once), she still considers him her closest confidante and trusts him far more than she trusts anyone else. In times of crisis, she looks to him for guidance, and when everything else she believes in is shaken, she believes in her brother.

Tea: Red Sunrise

Sundrop: Able to manipulate light into the body. Strong glowy-theme!
Dragonsbane: Often used in potions and herbology. It has a sense of ferocity and strength!
Crimson Fang: A sharp fang, still stained with blood.
Tiger’s Blood: A potent, spicy liquid. Not for the weak of heart.
Blood Flower: A small crimson flower that grows rapidly on battlefields.
Sun Fragment: Half of a golden sun ornament. Wonder where the other half is?

Additional Notes:

-Don't threaten Arthur. Seriously, don't do it. Vivian will (try to) break all your fingers (and only your fingers, if you're lucky).

-Scars. Yes, Vivian has a lot of them -- and yes, she knows this. She wears her scars as a badge of pride, almost; each one represents, to her, a time she refused to give up just because that was the easy thing to do, usually because she continued enhancing or fighting despite injuries.

-On that note, the healers are probably rather sick of her by now.

Okay, so uhm.

Vivian's draw back is basically how fragile her body becomes yes? This could leave her very vulnerable and possibly die on the battlefield if she's not careful, so I think you may want to rethink the drawbacks. Especially if the battle lasts for more than 20 minutes. Vivian would be in well, deep s**t.

Personality wise she seems fine, though I think I'd use confident, not brave.

Nothing much else to say about her. She's pretty balanced and overall she makes sense, cept for the drawback. Charrie could possibly end up dying, not too good a thing. :/

Ahaha, thanks, Ewa! XD I was afraid she might seem too powerful, so I wanted to give her a severe drawback, but it seems it was too severe.

What I was going for is that she has to be careful about what she enhances. She can't just try to enhance one thing after another, she has to pick and choose, to minimize risk to herself.

So by enhancing the durability of her body, she can delay the usual fragility until after any battle is over, to avoid the issue during the fight, but she's in the most danger afterwards.

Herp derp if anyone has any suggestions for how I can balance this out, I would like them <3

"an hour minutes, maximum" ... Assuming this is a typo. Just thought I'd point it out. xD;

I really like her power. It's very unique. Honestly, I feel like you have it balanced pretty well; you're clearly competent enough not to make her some crazy, godmoding beast. o-o; If enhancing something, especially her own body, weakens her, even in the long run, there has to be a limit to how much she can enhance something, so I definitely don't think she's too powerful, but I guess we'll see for sure when she's in action. xD;

o-o She better not shake someone's hand too hard... she'll bruise herself.

I find her personality to be super interesting, given her fragility. You'd think she'd be a bit more stand offish... or that she'd work hard to make friends instead of enemies. I like that she's not what you'd expect, but does she have any instincts in the way of self-preservation that might influence her personality some? Or, is she so set on overcoming her weakness that she becomes a bit reckless?

Her history is nice and clear. I wouldn't mind knowing more... her relationship with her parents, more on why she chose to be a Black Heart instead of just an Ars Lilium or someone that could just as well defend humans. Probably because of she and her brothers' poor health, I suppose? These are more clarity things... because I'm a character history buff. >>;;

She's so spicy! xD

Apologies for the always-too-long crit. x.x In general, I really love her... I think she'll make for an incredibly interesting character. <3

Oops, you're right XD I'll fix that.

Ahh, okay! I just really want to make sure it's balanced, so she has to be careful using it ICly too.

She's uh...definitely on the reckless end of the spectrum xD;; I will clarify that under 'determined', I think, as she tends to be kind of reckless in her determination to prove herself.

I'll fill out her history a bit more, too <3 Thanks, Satin!

Well I tried to find something ! xP But honestly I feel you've covered most everything that needs to be covered. I get a nice clear picture of who she is and her history. I think like Satin that you've managed to make her magic ability balanced so to speak. Kudos, you've created a very interesting character here ma'am !

Few thing might be, since you mentioned she was to later become a Ars Lilium you could even add in a blurb about her past familiar since they become a large part of the witches life in the Ars stage. But even without that I think your history is still pretty solid. As well as in the additional area you could go more into her likes, dislikes, hobbies and personal goals if she has any just for that extra umph, of the ones not previously mentioned in the profile. <3

I'm curious on how she would take her brother or anyone she has came to think highly of befriending a Majin since she has such a strong opinion on them and all. But as previously mentioned I think you've got a good profile here!
