Still frozen in time, Allyson paid absolutely no attention to the very brightly colored head of hair that brushed past her awkward stance at the entrance of the door to gain access into the cafe. She would have felt the urge to apologize for being rude by not moving, but her mind was clearly elsewhere. She knew she had a few moments at best before she had to return to her boyfriend and explain that she actually didn't had her bag with her. That wasn't the hard part; considering he knew how absentminded she could be. The hard part was making the decision to move in any direction from the spot where she stood.
The door started to open again, snapping her out of her paralysis when she realized she didn't want to get in another person's way. She prepared herself to move out of the way, when the familiar voice from before spoke up. "Allyson?…Ally Misner?" Blindsided once again, she found herself right back in the frozen state of mind that she had before. She hadn't been able to make herself walk back into the cafe due to her fear. At least her first suspicion had been proved wrong. It was him. She didn't even need to wait for him to introduce himself as Daniel Cleaver. She never should have had her doubts from the moment she saw him walk into the cafe, but of course he did look a touch different now. "Of course." she felt herself actually smiling as the words effortlessly escaped her. It seemed almost silly that they had to re-introduce themselves after practically being soul-mates. But time had a weird way of changing things. Just because he remembered her, didn't mean he still harbored the same feelings that he did before.
Now, she had to figure out what was going to happen next. Was she going to go back inside and extend the offer of having a coffee together? No. That most certainly wouldn't work. Her boyfriend was a block away, waiting for her because she lied about a bad she didn't even have on her when she left. Was she going to just... say good bye once again and walk away? That didn't seem like a good idea either. Right at the very moment she had found what she'd spent such a long time searching for; but now it was bittersweet. Where were you when I was searching? She wanted to ask the question, but decided to keep it to herself. She had no idea what had gone on with his life since they last saw each other; just like he had no idea what had gone on in her life...aside from the addition of a new man. For some reason, a part of her felt exceptionally guilty at that moment. If by some chance he did still feel for her what he did when they were in the hospital, he would certainly have been crushed by seeing the other man. Then there was her boyfriend. She had lied to him. That wasn't an easy pill to swallow, but at the moment it was an easier pill to swallow than the possibility of never seeing the man standing in front of her again. The possibility of not getting to hold an actual conversation with him.
Completely on impulse, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone; one of the few items she kept on her person when she had decided to go for the walk earlier. She dialed the number and waited for her boyfriend to pick up from within the car. "Would you mind if I met up with you at home later?" She waited for the inevitable question of why. "One of my clients just walked in here. He's got a new idea for one of the rooms, so... I figured I'd sit down with him and have a coffee." Another pause. "Nah, I don't mind walking back. The rain will probably let up soon anyway. Okay, see you soon, bye."
She felt horrible about lying, but in the moment she could think of nothing else that seemed like a better idea. She couldn't exactly tell her boyfriend who she wanted to sit down and chat with. But at the same time, she needed to know how Daniel felt. She needed to have confirmation if he still had feelings for her. In her mind she was certain that if he still felt the same way, it wouldn't matter what her boyfriend thought. Deep down, he must have always known that their relationship was only temporary; that if she had ever found the man who truly had her heart... all other bets would be off. But for all I know... Daniel's got a girlfriend... fiance... or even wife. It's been so long...
She turned her attention back to the man standing in front of her. It took everything she had not to give into the urge to throw herself forward and give him the biggest hug her once-again-tiny-framed body could muster up. She wanted to blurt out right then and there exactly how she felt. She wanted to tell him that there was a part of her that never let go of loving him. Of course, none of those were feasible. She needed to know how he felt before she said anything, but it wasn't as if she could just come right out and ask. Instead, without even realizing that her words were still too forward for her liking, she spoke anyway, "I missed you. I really missed you."
