Because he was alienated by everyone outside of the family he instead chose to bond with spirits and has decided that anyone who can see spirits cannot be evil. He has even gotten a signature phrase: "everything will work out" as a way of seeing things. He is rarely on bad terms with anyone and always decides to make friends with the people he meets. He is deeply caring for his friends and is even ready to die for them or give up his dreams. Although he has a kind and caring nature, he has revealed that he doesn't care for humans very much._____________BiographyBorn in 1674 with a spiritual sense, Genji was raised to be the Oyabun of a very powerful yakuza in Kyushu. Due to his rough and tough nature of going about things, he was alienated by those outside of the yakuza, and had few he could call a friend. Thus, he began to make friends with spirits instead of people. He was notably excessively violent and was disliked by some members of the yakuza, who thought he was too hot-headed to lead the organization. His father, the current oyabun, protested that Genji would soon learn to be calmer, but a certain group of the yakuza could not come to terms with this.
They formulated a plot to kill him so his father would be forced to choose a new successor, and they managed to do so by the time he was around 16, causing his death with a car bomb.H e became a Jibakurai and stalked his murderers for several months before killing them in revenge. Some time later, he was cleansed of his sins and sent to the Rukongai where he stayed for a while before developing his own Shinigami powers and his aggressive personality began to wear off. In it's sealed form, Rekkahoshi is a simple, red-colored bō that is normally kept at a manageable two feet long. It is kept inside a hollow tube that's tied to a rope to make it easier to carry. The bō is able to extend and shrink at Genji's will, presumably with fire that combines to form more of the pole, stretching outwards as far as 450 km. Soruhi (剃火, Shave Flame)
A fire-enhanced Shunpo that Genji developed before he was made Lieutenant of the 2nd Division. Soruhi essentially wraps the bottoms of Genji's feet in flame and allows him to "skate" on this layer of flame to increase the distance covered by his Shunpo, thus increasing it's speed. [+20 to Agility - Hohō]
Hiken (火拳, Fire Fist)
The source of his namesake and signature move. Genji surrounds his fist with flames and launches it as a column of fire at his target, powerful enough to blow through several dozen feet of bedrock. _____________SpiritIn spirit form, Rekkahoshi is gigantic, towering over Genji at 450 feet tall with a muscular body, broad shoulders, and thin arms, except for the forearms which bulge out to end in black claws. It's midsection is rather thin, as is it's lower body in comparison to the rest of it's body, and black lava rock armor down its legs. Rekkahoshi is presumed to be without a gender and does not speak. It can shrink down to a smaller size at will, at which point it can emit small squeaks in different pitches and lengths to express how it is feeling._____________Inner WorldGenji's Inner World is a planet devoid of any life and comprised of a sole, vast desert. The planet is unstable, and pillars of flame shoot out of gysers that are scattered across the surface. The ground itself is mostly flat, save some mountainous regions and scattered hills; it's comprised of dried, cracked mud. The planet core is a massive ball of flame surrounded by layers and layers of dense rock; the core is constantly burning the oxygen in the atmosphere which is pumped into the core via the gysers._____________ShikaiRelease Phrase: Yakedo (火傷, Burn)
Upon release, alongside a firey aura surrounding Genji's body, and the bō bursts into flames, but does not turn to ash or burn. The aura dies down after a moment, but can resurface when he chooses, similar to the aura of the Z-Fighters. Rekkahoshi allows Genji to generate and manipulate fire in various way, and the specialty of this fire is that it is not affected by Hierro. The individual techniques can be combined to be used in different ways. Copious amounts of heat can be released from his body to allow flight and deoxygenation is possible, given an enclosed or mostly enclosed space.
Shikai Attacks
Aketaba (朱束, Scarlet Coil)
Genji coils flame tightly around a chosen limb, which enhances the strength and endurance of that limb for a moment and has the secondary effect of burning what Genji strikes. The flame can be uncoiled and used as a physically solid stockwhip that extends to ten (10) feet long. [+20 Strength and Endurance to limb.]
Enen Hosoku (炎炎捕獲, Fiery Capture)
Genji creates a flaming net that is useful for preventing entry and exit to a certain area. It is also able to withstand and hold back attacks, and can be formed as flat, curved, or spherical.
Enkai Hibashira (炎戒火柱, Flame Commandment Fire Pillar)
Genji amasses a large amount of flames around his body (usually by first swinging his outstretched hand around him, summoning the flames) in preparation for an attack. Following this, Genji shoots the collected flames straight upward, destroying a target above him. It can also be fired downwards to clear any enemies that might be below him while he's in mid-air.
Hinotama (火の玉, Falling Star)
Genji creates a fireball in the palm of his hand that is either shot or hurled at an intended target. There's no lag time for this, and it can be repeated many times over as desired.
Murahi no Tsurugi (叢火の剣, Sword of Gathered Flame)
Genji surrounds either or both arms in flame, which extends out in the rough approximate form of a blade. It measures 1½ feet long and points away from the back of his hand, curving towards his elbow ever so slightly. It has a secondary effect of burning while cutting, which causes even more damage, while also cauterizing the wound.
Nenshō Shigan (燃焼指銃, Burning Finger Gun)
Pointing the index and middle fingers of both hands at an opponent like guns, Genji turns his fingertips into flames and shoots bullets made of fire at them. The rate of fire can range from a pistol to a machine gun depending on his preference, and he can limit the number fired as he feels necessary.
Okibihoko (燠火矛, Blazing Fire Lance)
Genji creates a number of solid, flaming lances (usually by swinging either or both arms in the intended direction) that he hurls at the intended target. The lances have the secondary effect of burning that which it pierces, which causes even more damage, while also cauterizing the wound. It's possible to pull them out, although painful, but if this is not done, the each lance will dissipate after a few minutes (1 post).
Seinaru Hokage (聖なる火影, Sacred Firelight)
Genji creates many small, glowing yellow fireballs that float around an enemy. Quickly after their creation, he makes them converge on a target at once, burning them from all sides. The worst damage one can receive from this attack is topical, first degree burns, although this can be far more damaging if the target is weak.
Shikai Attack Combinations
Hiaburi (火炙り, Burning at the Stake)
Genji combines Nenshō Shigan and Murahi no Tsurugi to fire off a multitude of dart-like spikes of flame that pierce and burn the intended target upon impact.
Hinonarabi (火の並び, Line of Fire)
Genji combines Enkai Hibashira and Nenshō Shigan to fire off a narrow stream of flame that has more power per square inch due to it's contained nature. The name of the move is a pun on the military meaning of "in the line of fire" or "where the bullets are being shot."
Hitokage Oken (火蜥蜴尾剣, Salamander's Tail-Blade)
Genji combines Aketaba and Murahi no Tsurugi to create a bladed whip of fire that utilizes the long range aspect of Aketaba and the cutting ability of Murahi no Tsurugi.
Hinagare Renda (火流れ連打, Fire Stream Barrage)
Genji combines Enkai Hibashira and Hinotama to launch fireballs that become beams of flame as they close in on the intended target. The kinetic energy picked up by the moving fireballs enhances the power of the beam of flame that is released during movement.
Mikahizuki (三日火月, Crescent Fire Moon)
Genji combines Hinotama and Murahi no Tsuruhi to fire off crescent-shaped fireballs, giving them the ability to cut through the intended target.
Shōidan Hōgeki (焼夷弾砲撃, Fire Bomb Bombardment)
Genji combines Aketaba and Hinotama to create a whip that generates fireballs along it's length, which are fired off when the whip is swung. _____________BankaiName: Hageshii Rekkahoshi (激しい烈火星, Violent Raging Fire Star)
When Bankai is initiated, the firey aura found in Shikai increases four-fold, and the heat emitted is sufficient enough to auto-ignite wood and vaporize water. The aura flares around Genji's body before covering him completely, wrapping him in a cocoon of white flame and transforming his body in the process. When it clears, there are no visible changes to his body that can be seen immediately. While in Bankai, Genji can turn his body into flame at will, as well as create it from thin air or from his body, and control it with ease. His flame body allows him to avoid normal attacks by turning into his element and letting them pass right through him. This effect can be negated by catching him off guard, at which point he'll be unable to change and would take the damage.
Bankai Techniques
Kōdai Hiken (広大火拳, Grand Fire Fist)
An amped-up version of Hiken, Kōdai Hiken follows the same execution as it's parent technique, but differs slightly. Genji turns his fist into flames and launches it as a massive wave of fire at his target. This attack is so incredibly powerful that it is able to plow through several ships in one shot.
Dai Entei (大炎帝, Great Flame Emperor)
Raising his hand over his head, Genji creates and gathers a large quantity of flames above the palm of his hand, creating a huge fireball above it, that is then released towards the opponent in a manner similar to a flame thrower. It's capable of reducing the vegetation and the like of an entire mountainside to ash in a matter of seconds.
Enkō no Gekiryū (炎光の激流, Raging Stream of Flame) [Not obtained]
In order to make the attack, Genji draws his hands back and gathers up a large amount of fire around him. Then, he thrusts his palms forward and discharges a golden-yellow beam of fire towards his opponent. The core temperature of the beam itself reaches 1270.5 ºF, and achieves escape velocity after it is fired, allowing it to continue in a straight line out of the atmosphere and on into deep space.
O.S. Jaōki (O.S.邪王気, O.S. Tyrant-King Spirit) [Not obtained]
Rekkahoshi's towering spirit is fully materialized into the real world, and Genji himself merges with the spirit, or rather goes inside of him. Genji can be seen in the spirit's midsection, seemingly unconscious, although he is in complete control of the spirit, which is now acting like an armor for Genji. Towering over most everything at 450 feet tall, the use of this final and most powerful technique is banned within the Seireitei. While in this state neither Genji nor Rekkahoshi have access to the intangibility the Bankai provides.
Jaō Ensatsu Gyōshi (邪王炎殺凝視, Tyrant-King's Blaze-Murdering Stare)
The spirit opens both of it's eyes wide, causing a bright light to encompass the area that it is looking at. The land as far as it can see bursts into flames in an instant, transforming the battlefield into a raging inferno.
Jaō Ensatsu Ken (邪王炎殺剣, Tyrant-King's Blaze-Murdering Sword)
An extremely amped-up version of Murahi no Tsurugi, Jaō Ensatsu Ken summons a large sword made entirely out of black flames. The sword can be used to slice through most anything, just like it's parent technique, and can level a city block with ease. It's also good for defensive options, being able to burn up most things that strike it.
Jaō Ensatsu Rengoku Shō (邪王炎殺煉獄焦, Tyrant-King's Blaze-Murdering Purgatory Scorch)
An extremely amped-up version of Hinotama, Jaō Ensatsu Rengoku Shō is Genji's most powerful attack. After creating great spiraling flames centered on his location before amassing it at a focused point (i.e. the palm of the spirit's hand), Genji then turns it into a gigantic fireball resembling the sun and hurls it at his opponent to try to obliterate them.
Bankai-Enhanced Techniques/Combinations
Shōkyaku Kamate (焼却鎌手, Incinerating Scythe-Arm)
A Bankai version of Murahi no Tsurugi: Genji changes his arm into a blade of fire, and swipes it through an intended target. If the intended target is non-living, it is reduced to ash unless it is quite resistant to heat or unable to become ash (i.e. water). If the target is living, they suffer a 2nd degree burn in the form of a line where the blade went through them.
Sakerutsuchi Takuretsu (裂ける地 焚く列, Earth-Splitting Burning-Row)
After turning his arm into a blade of fire, Genji stabs it into the ground extending it along the ground like a torpedo, splitting anything in its path. This includes the very ground itself, through extreme and focused burning, created by the fire blade, which is strong enough to slice a man in half. This can also be used on other surfaces like floors and walls with the same effect.

Rekkahoshi's sealed form ability seems a bit out of place. I assume the staff is similar to the one Goku uses in the original Dragon Ball, and if so I can attest that it isn't that much of a game breaker since swinging a 363,000km staff is more of a disadvantage than an advantage. But like I said, for a fire zan it's a bit random, like if Hibiki's sealed zan sword suddenly gained the ability to dispense gum and breath mints.
Black Dragon Hellfire should probably be edited. I can understand its steel puncturing capabilities if it were a slow ability, but as stated it can be fired relatively fast in one burst.
Sword of the Darkness Flame Shortening the blade's length should probably be considered. My main issue is that the user will gain an anti-all-Hierro armor while in Shikai. True that the cut isn't that deep, but even so, a foot-long deep wound can be instantly fatal.
Hageshii Rekkahoshi's Hierro boost seems a bit off. In the paragraph it states he only has a +20, but in the stat text it states he has a +40.
Black Dragon's Glare Hmm... question, if say Nu uses Shunpo to move from point A to point B and Genji uses this ability in the space which he knows Nu will eventually pass through, will this ability activate upon her or will it activate upon the air around her as Genji himself cannot see her?
Blaze-Murdering Black-Dragon-Wave I actually don't have that much of a problem with it, I'm just wondering why it's not obtained yet.
O.S. Red Star Spirit While I can find this ability acceptable, and I even think it's rather epic. I think Taiga had an issue once with a member whose zan had an ability that allowed her to materialize the zan spirit outside its inner world. Not sure about that though.
Blast Step Wouldn't the explosion cause a bit of damage on Genji's legs though as well?

In regards to the materialization, I believe that at that point it was due to the circumstances. I think that person was trying to have it fight alongside her, making it two against one. I'm not sure, so I'd have to actually see what I wrote. If not, then apparently I've changed my own mind. Girls do that from time to time.

I can understand that, but it was tweaked so that it wasn't like the nyoibo in that it simply extended, instead flames materialized to make it longer and hardened it into a staff. Visually it's the same, but it's different in principle.
I believe that was just an oversight from what it used to be. The description looks so empty now.
I wouldn't consider it to be any different than a real sword in that the entire blade is very rarely ever used to make a cut. In fact, I believe that's quite tricky to do. It wasn't intended to cut Hierro though, just barriers and the like.
Fixed.
It works on what he can see. If he so chooses to use it on the air, then that's what it ignites. Well, that's what would ignite anyway...
He'll get that when he becomes the 10th Captain. This is my replacement for Koudo, since he's about to die.

Ah... well it looks fine now though.
Ah, so I simply misread it. Accepted then.
Not sure a +40 is acceptable though, given that the zan emphasizes on both offense and defense, and not solely on defense. A +30 perhaps.
I take it then that if the object is invisible then he cannot ignite it? If so, it's accepted.
Well that explains it... wait, Koudo's going to die? Dang, that's a shame.

Though I doubt an explosion can be controlled enough to not cause damage to organic tissue I suppose it is acceptable.
