Air Screamer
Description:
The Air Screamer is a flying creature that sometimes moves in groups of up to five. It appears in Silent Hill. Their appearance is similar to that of a pterodactyl crossed with a bat. Its wingspan is quite impressive as the creature itself stands roughly half the height of a human. It's covered in mottled brown skin and appears unnaturally thin. They are also called "flying bastards". The Night Flutter is its Otherworld variant.
Method of Attack:
Air Screamers' danger lies in their mobility. They're fairly fragile creatures, though landing a blow with a melee weapon is very difficult. As such, firearms are suggested for shooting them out of the air. To conserve ammo, it's recommended to flee from these creatures whenever possible. Listen for flapping wings and/or squawking sounds warning of their approach.
Symbolism:
The Air Screamer represents an illustration in one of Alessa's favorite books, The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This is presumably the Pteranodon, as it bears a strong physical resemblance.
Reasons for Manifestation:
Alternatively, if a character has a particular fear of heights, or flying creatures, this monster will not hesitate to appear and attack without warning.
