Last summer I had the opportunity to go to an amazing summer program called Governor's School. Due to recently approved budget cuts, the North Carolina's Governor's School program has lost state funding. This means that upcoming students would have to pay tuition costs of over $1,800. You can read more about Governor's School through the eyes of a current here and I would be very, VERY, grateful if you would donate (right side of the page) and help save this wonderful program.

(Sorry if I sound bot-ish, I'm just no good at expressing my feelings. crying )

Sweetheart, I donate all of my spare money to a charity organization called Islamic Relief, but I PROMISE I will pass this link on to my family and friends to see if they will do it heart

I can't donate, because I'm a typical cash-strapped college student, but I'll pass it along to see if anyone I know will donate.

I do think that it's nice to have some sort of space for gifted students to socialize and be challenged. I think that everyone should be in a healthy space that encourages education and self-improvement. I can understand your displeasure with the budget cuts and increase of tuition that could significantly reduce the number of students enrolled.

However, it is just a 6-week summer program for high school students, and that is what I take issue with. $1,800 is pretty steep for 6 weeks, but if you or your family is able to afford it and if this program is truly as beneficial as it seems to indicate, then the price is worth risking. But there is no problem continuing with a regular high school education and then being challenged when you become a post-secondary student.

I wouldn't donate to the cause even if I had the funds because there are so many more important organizations that are in dire need of financial support. There are so many youth unable to get an education because they live in such abject poverty. There are people who live in families where they have to decide between having shelter and food. I think that our money would be better spent there, rather than on a 6-week summer school for gifted students.

You and all the other gifted students are fortunate enough to have the education you have and be in the economic situation that many of you are in, that you really don't need this. If you truly want to attend the school, and they haven't closed down, you can find a way to pay the $1,800 tuition or else be grateful with what you have and save your money and time for a great post-secondary education.

1,800$ is nothing if these students are going for six weeks.

I went to Washing D.C. for five days, and that was more like 2000$.

All in all, I'm agreeing with Mikagi-sama. ^^^^^
