Seeming to be planning ahead, Oliver kept his gaurd up. Despite facing only a genin, the other two were fierce, but this one could very well be clever as the other two, maybe more. Time would tell. He spotted two kunai, thinking little of it, but knew that those kunai had something to do with her next move. He jumped higher into the trees, sensing the clone from a distance. He held onto the branch above with his hands wrapped around from sides, his face pointing towards the end of the branch, as he watched the young genin plotting.

"Think fast!"

The jounin jumped to higher branches, away from Kaida's grasping shadows. How bothersome. Narrowing her eyes, she let more chakra flow into the jutsu. The thin tendrils of darkness rejoined on the opposite trunk, forming a solid line that grew up the tree towards the ninja. Her breath was becoming deeper, and beads of sweat began to form on her brow. Putting this much effort into this bloodline technique drained her, not to mention maintaining a fully functioning shadow clone. And, to be honest, her chakra regulation wasn't wondrously controlled. She was loosing about an extra twenty percent on every jutsu. How much chakra was left? The real question, though, was how much time was left. With one clone, probably ten minutes. Without the clone, fifteen. Two jutsus left, and one semi-possible plan. "Semi-possible" was not hopeful. She was in the south of the battle ground, her opponent in the north, and the clone in the east, closing in. 'One more would keep me from the west. The probability would go up by what, thirty percent? If I did that now, I would have about three minutes.' It was tempting, but the time would not work. The clone had a minute and a half to go, and Kaida could complete nothing damaging within the remaining minute and a half. So, ten minutes, eight with the clone to help. West weak, but a sacrifice she would have to make.

Kaida let her shadow follow him as he climbed branches. The once-thick line was now thinning. Lower, towards the forest floor, was the home of shadows. Up here near the tree line, light reigned. The shadow slowed, then stopped. It was about seven feet below where the Jounin now perched. Kaida pressed her lips together. The strain of chakra loss was being felt.

Little was going on, but he could tell she was plotting. He knew she probably wouldn't have this much time to think in an actual battle, as the foe would be trying to use their own moves, while planning on the fly. He snapped off a small branch, lobbing it at her, knowing it would be significantly safer than having tossed a kunai or shuriken. He waited to see how she'd react, and replan.

"Think fast!"

The jounin seemed to grow tired of her slowness, tossing a projectile at her. 'Finally.' Kaida smiled. She dodged to the side, using it as an excuse to let herself fall to the earth. As she fell, the shadows fell with her, becoming smaller. She landed on her feet, crouched, and preformed the hand signs for the forth jutsu. Doroku Gaeshi, Earth Shore Return. A wall of earth flipped up from before her. Kaida jumped, alighting on the top edge. 'Ten more seconds, seven, four, one-' Where was the clone? It had been closing in this whole time, ready for the final jutsu. Not good; a new plan was needed. If she cut off the west-

A shuddering could be felt in the ground. Soon, the forest floor began to twist and split underneath the jounin's tree. Kaida let out a shaky breath that she hadn't realized she'd been holding. The clone was here, and with it came Kaida's final jutsu: Doton: Retsudo Tenshō, Earth Release: Tearing Earth Turning Palm. The tree and many around it were sucked downwards. Kaida let her shadow re-extend through the shadow created by the earth wall and through the shadows of the trees on the forest floor. Her range was now at it's greatest, and the jounin was well within her range. Kaida's shadow rushed up the small amount of tree trunk remaining, and attempted to attach to the man's shadow.

The landscape now shifting, he felt the tree shaking, and saw a few others trembling. She seemed skilled in Earth Styled jutsu. He felt something strange, his body seemed to stiffen. "What is this?" It was becoming difficult to move. He wasn't exactly sure what was going on. Unless...it all made sense. She's a Nara. He should have asked for her name before starting. He'd forgotten all about the possibility of her being able to catch his shadow. It still worked out, because this was the last move, and he saw how she made good use of them. "Congratulations, you made good use of your 5 techniques."

Hikaru reappeared on a branch above Oliver from using the Body Flicker Technique. He jumped down to where Oliver was, and, spotting his immobility, giggled madly. He pulled out a blue, washable marker and drew whiskers and a nose on his, along with spiky eyebrows and copious amounts of nose hair. He was acting his age a little more around his sensei. The fight had let him read his sensei's personality a bit, and he was sure he wouldn't mind, and would see the humor in the situation. He hoped he would, at least...

He wondered vaguely, when he spotted the cause of Oliver's immobility, if it was reversed to his opponent. He grabbed Oliver's arm and moved it up to chest height, then watched the new girl with a rabid interest.

A familiar smell in the air, he felt a stiff moist presence on his face, spotting part of a marker on the corner of his eye. "That's real mature. Joke's on you, I was gonna take a shower after this, anyway." After weeks of non-stop hunting missions, he needed to relax, and of course, shower. He then felt his arm moved up to chest level, assuming others could move him, but couldn't move himself.

It worked! Kaida grinned, pride filling her. She had expected him to be ready for the Shadow jutsu, but it seemed that he had not been told that she was a Nara. Standing on the wall of earth, Kaida stumbled, barely catching herself. She had released too much chakra. Her breath came in deep heaves, and she was sweating. 'Might as well get this over with.' She released all of the jutsus at once. Her shadow disconnected, pooling back at her feet; the wall crumbled underneath her, leaving her on a pile of ruble; and the shadow clone disappeared, adding all of its fatigue to Kaida's. Ow. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that the jounin seemed to have grown blue cat-like tattoos. She must be going insane. "Um, I'm going to.. just sit down for a moment." Her knees folded, and she leaned back against the tree behind her. She needed to catch her breath.

The shadow possession released, he regained control of his movement. He pulled out two c-rank jutsu tickets, tossing one to Kaida in the form of a paper airplane, and handed one behind himself to Hikaru. "Next time I see Kinko, I'll give him his, but for now, I have to go wash off. Need to clean the marker off, too. You're dismissed until then. Use your time wisely, because I have something planned for us tomorrow." He nudged Hikaru's arm off gently, jumping out of the tree, and began walking into the woods to cut back to his house.

Hikaru gave the new girl no time to rest, promptly grabbing her wrist, summoning Silfarion, and dragging her off towards the training grounds faster then the eye can follow.

"Think fast!"

Kaida had finally caught her breath, but she was still tired. It had been stupid of her to go all-out on such a little test. Next time, she would have to factor in the effort she was willing to exert. She always forgot something. That was what her brother was always telling her, anyways. No matter what Kaida did, he always beat her at that stupid game of shogi. She had considered just refusing to play, but- A small movement of some thing headed at her caused her to snap her head up. The objects were two tickets tossed at her, breaking her train of thought. She caught them. Two c-rank jutsu tickets? Awesome! Kaida nearly laughed. Maybe it had been worth it.

Standing, Kaida stretched. Right now, she could really do for a cold tea and a nap. The instructor had said that the rest of the day was her's right? That would be nice, if not for the boy. He seemed to think that the day would be better used for training. The other genin grabber her wrist, dragging her off in the general direction of the training grounds. 'Great. Just great,' Kaida thought grumpily.
