User ImageThe sun beat down on the city in neutral territory, the birds were making a lovely ruckus with their songs, and the air was sticky. All signs of broad daylight that Renee was ignoring in favor of sleep. Ever since Renee had decided to settle in this town, she had adapted to a nocturnal sleep schedule. Most humans in this town were blissfully unaware of the existence of dragons, an unawareness that Renee was happy to leave. It gave her an excuse to sleep all day and scavenge at night. Her nighttime scavenges had proved fruitful, the proof being in the pigsty that Renee called a home. Renee lived at the dead end of an alleyway, the shade of the buildings around her keeping the glare of the sun away. Renee was lying on an old mattress some human had tossed out, and there was a battery powered lamp next to her "bed". Blankets were (surprisingly) neatly folded next to the mattress. Renee had no need for them until winter came. Books and magazines were scattered on the alley floor, there was a living chair near the bed, a laptop that Renee had no idea how to use, and various other things scattered about Renee's living space that need not be noted.

As was apt to happen, someone discovered her living space while she was sleeping.

Poke.

Poke.

Pokepokepoke.

The prodding caused Renee to stir. Lazily, she cracked open a white-rimmed red eye. A human child had found her. Joy. The only way out of this was to act menacing if she wanted the child to go away.

"What do you want, human?" she growled in her meanest voice.

The human, already startled at the dragon's awakening, screamed loudly and dashed away as fast as their little legs could take them. Well, Renee was most definitely now up. Worse, it was too bright and too hot for her to be able to go back to sleep. Not only that, but if one human saw her, usually they would bring more. She sighed dejectedly and decided that she may as well do something.

At least the thermals would carry her nicely today.

Renee stretched herself out, and spread her wings. Already, the hot air was beckoning her into the cerulean ocean of air. A running take off was easiest for Renee, and she flapped her wings as she lightly loped towards the wall opposite of her alleyway cranny. She jumped, and gently kicked the wall to get herself higher, flapping her wings at the same time to get up into the air.

Finally, she was in the air, the warm air causing her to rise above the city and make everything seem tiny and insignificant. She lazily let herself glide like this for awhile, enjoying the rare daylight that she never saw these days anymore.

Eventually, even the joys of flight began to bore her. Still, it was too soon to return home and attempt sleep. She decided to fly towards the forest near the city. No one would see her, and there was more shade there anyway. She calculated her landing as well as she could, and somehow managed to only graze the branches of trees as she landed in the sea of greenery that she could never hope to blend in with.

Now was the time to find a relaxing, secluded spot to take a nap in.

Isabeau

Snowprint rested his head on the ground next to a fur tree, it's shade blocking the sun's heat from his gaze. It was another lazy day and he was enjoying the peaceful breeze the tall trees had provided, this was much better than being out in the heat. Isabeau sat on a mossy patch next to the enormous dragon, she had her nose in a book as usual. They rarely did anything but sit around quietly and enjoy each other's presence. It was how Snowprint wanted it, anyway, quiet and relaxing. Every once in a while the human would look up from the pages and talk to him about the story she was currently reading. This was nothing that ever meant anything important to him but he enjoyed their time together none the less. Sighing a tiresome release, Snowprint's attention went to the forest for he knew the sound of another dragon in the area. Raising his head from the shade, he looked around for a sign of the intruding visitor. Someone that had broken his afternoon slumber, someone that was taking away his relaxing time with the human who had proven to him that he could trust again. Standing up he slowly began to creep towards the source of the sound, his head low in a stalking position. Isabeau looked up at him and tried to see what he was looking at. "Is everything okay, Snowprint?" She had been around him long enough to know some of his body language but she still hadn't mastered the signs so well. She wasn't sure if he was in a stalking position for food or aggression. Putting her book down on her lap, Isabeau continued to watch him with wonder and curiosity.

Snowprint ignored her words for she was in a safe place as far as he was concerned. He was more worried about what was out in the forest that he couldn't see. Stepping slowly into the trees he disappeared from Isabeau's view, which was fine for her. Until she hears him she knew he was making sure she was protected, she knew this was a bond they shared. Releasing a puff of air from his snout, Snowprint stepped abruptly out into the clearing Renee had taken residence to. At first the approach was aggressive but then when he saw the female dragon trying to get out of the sun's heat he held himself back and sighed. "I guess it really wasn't anything." Snowprint said to himself as he flicked the tip of his tail with annoyance. Her presence interrupted his own sleep which was irritating to him but none the less he didn't bother with her, not like she was from the drake clan or anything. "You should be more careful around here. The city may not know of your existance but there are some dangerous dragons in these forests." He was referring to one dragon in particular which he had dubbed to be a rival. The only reason why he hadn't attacked it yet was because of that silly human he for some reason chose to spend his time with every day.

Renee's head snapped to the direction where the other noise was coming from, not expecting it. When she also saw that it was another dragon, she remained alert at first until she realized that he was no longer in an aggressive position. Her entire composure immediately went back into its laid-back self, no traces left of her previous alertness. She noted his tail flick and saw that he looked annoyed before she heard what he said.

In response, she said, "Eh, I think I'll be fine. With so few dragons around these parts, there's a low chance I'll meet any dangerous dragons. In fact, since I met you today, which had a low chance of happening, that means that I most probably won't meet these dangerous dragons you speak of," her tone was lazy, and there was probably some faulty logic in her words but she really didn't care. Sure, it was actually a pleasant surprise to her to see another dragon, but she was still fairly tired from earlier having been woken up in the middle of her sleep.
