[Under Construction; Posting my story idea first, to see if it catches anyone's interest. Think of it as the Prologue. Leave me a post in the OOC thread, or send me a PM if you wanna let me know what you think! sweatdrop ]

There once was a world where 'Global Climate Change' was just a small topic on TV, where strange weather occurrences were only beginning. That, and a little before that, are only fairytales in what has now become of this planet. Heck... Even fairytales are unheard of, now.
To start from the beginning so you can make more sense of this...

It started with the 'Global Warming' concept... Climate Change. The planet was heating up... it was causing all sorts of things. It went on slowly... So even after you would be dead (No matter how young you are while reading this), it hadn't even gotten so bad. But it was gradual, and it did eventually hit a critical point to where living wasn't so comfortable anymore.

After many many years of this growing heating and cooling... A significant amount of deaths were reported in northern parts of Asia, Canada, Iceland and Greenland. Something was being spread through man and animal alike, and yet it took the countries a while to figure out that there was something really wrong. There were then some accusations of biological warfare, some useless arguing. Although it didn’t spread fast from the beginning... After a year or two of it being around- once it hit cities, it spread like wildfire.

Scientists went into action all around the world. Some found vaccines for it, and other countries bought them out to distribute. It wasn’t cheap, so only those in power, those who had the money to afford it, and those of importance to the people received the vaccines. Not all of them got it in time, but it was better than not having it at all...

By the time they figured it completely out... Over half the world’s population was dead. And the effects of the climate change were increasing all around the survivors. The next hundred years was spent trying to survive the weather. It might have been easier with a lot less persons to be concerned for... But it was also harder, because communication became a problem. The stench of the dead was becoming even more a problem...

And then the planet threw out another strain of virus.

They managed to survive the weather by building domes, focusing their technologies in keeping a relatively balanced environment... But this branch of virus came in the water, and couldn’t be caught with filters. It also reacted strangely to the vaccines from the first virus—The vaccines themselves becoming a normal shot to even children so they could not pick it up in any way.

The Second virus was a predator of its own, attacking what the vaccine from the first virus hadn’t needed to cover. It was almost strange at how easily two different types of microorganisms could take out almost the entirety of life on such a large planet... But the immune systems of ‘modern life’ weren’t prepared for them. It also almost seemed like they worked together, but it was just a string of bad fate that brought the planet to its knees.

Some animals seemed immune to both viruses, while others adapted around it. Those who couldn’t adapt to both the virus and the climate change perished. It was the survival of the toughest, fittest, most extreme life forms, and unfortunately the virus was at the top of the food chain.

It took more quarantining, more experimentation, more losses of life before one Scientist in a Russian branch finally discovered the ideal way to solve Humanities problems... Both the viruses, and the extremities of the weather outside their domes. He had created a catalyst to prompt the cells in the blood stream to Mutate. It was designed to target the white blood cells and the immunities of the body, supposedly, but it reacted to everything.

Enhancing the speed in mutational adaptation to what was going on in the body, and the environment, was what the serum did. A small portion of the surviving experiments were left to survive on their own during a short winter time, to which during the months that followed, they were seen coated in thin layers of fur, and could survive off of almost no sunlight at all, ice, and meat. It was then observed that the speed of the mutations only lasted so long, and those persons were adapted to that one climate. They nearly died when the heat returned.

More experimentation followed, but time was running out, so the serum was sent out soon to all of the remaining domes around the world; to anyone who was left. It was given out, and recommended to open up the domes while the mutations took root. None of the scientists could take down all of the observations of what was to happen afterwards…

The survival mutations varied in area, and even directly in each person. Sometimes it worked with the virus, so not all were saved, but most of the remainders survived through this round of the planet’s attack. And then again…

There were also… Monsters created. People who went mad from the virus, the mutations, or both… Some would attack people, while others just took off… The Domes suddenly became unsafe areas to live, as that was where the Monsters tended to remain. And that was where they were attempted to be contained. At least… Until the others could escape to other areas.

It took even more years and years for the planet to begin balancing itself out again… The weather was still at extremes, but it was at least predictable. The… Mutant race began building things up again. They took over old quarantine camps, using the walls for protection against the Monsters and the newly developing wildlife. The domes and ruined cities of old were rarely visited, but the entire planet was a harsh environment.

Once everything seemed settled… Order taken, life placed back in some form of cycle of sleeping, eating, and doing some form of work, did a new Year system be created. It began with 2-000, and went up from there. It was the second world on the same planet. And somehow… Life had survived all the planet had thrown at it.

It is now the year 2-056. We are making an amazing come-back to what had happened in our past. However... As things have taken a 'Normal' tone to them, power struggles and problems among people have started again. Different 'clans' have developed, some wanting control, while others want to leave... To start living elsewhere, mapping out what the land is like now.

We don't exactly have a Government, but... A lot of people are unhappy with how things are coming along.

Anyways, I've rambled on too much... I read too many of the old 'Books', I'm told. Study too much... I don't quite know what a 'Historian' is, but one of the Old ones have called me one for knowing so much about the past...
I just tell them I'm a daughter of a scientist.
Then they leave me alone.

-Layout-
++: The continents have shifted apart, a few of them breaking up into smaller pieces, but also creating more shallow water areas. Most of the sea life had perished in the past, but new organisms and life developed after years. The climate is mostly tropical, with a few cooler regions in the massive mountain ranges located on the larger pieces of land, as well as the furthest piece of land that used to be the South Pole.

What doesn't get rain, becomes a desert. What does, becomes a swamp. Anything else switches between both at times, either becoming so dry to cause nosebleeds, or so wet there's flooding for days. The planet doesn't make things easy. Especially when everyone is adapted to either one climate or the other... But we learn how to work around things.

++: Swamps
Rainfall is nearly Constant along where the equator was. Despite the heat from being the closest toward the sun still, in rotation, this is where a larger current of air has developed over the years. Many clouds accumulate here the most, and so most of the lands in this area are swamps.

If it wasn't for the rainfall, this area would be drier than the deserts on the planet. The heat is nearly unbearable, even for those who have adapted to it. And if it isn't the heat that kills you, it would be the humidity. The air is like being under water- almost literally. The moisture on your skin from the air will happen before you'll even be capable of breaking a sweat.

Extreme weather comes for extreme animals. It is still too early in the Earth's changing, and 'Reboot', for anything massive to come around, but what manages to live here is astonishing. Some of the animals, you can probably compare their appearances to Fish, even swim through the air somehow... Others are just massive in size, and all of them are dangerous.

When you think 'Swamp', you think of maybe a lake of more shallower water, lots of plants, lots of water-loving trees, insects. The swamps now... Would be considered underwater marshlands. Water covers a lot of the land, shallowly, but all sorts of bush and grass-like plants grow from it. The land that does show up is either gravelly, or mud, so walking would be a task on its own.

Needless to say... You have to be tough to get through the Swamps, let alone to live in them. Those 'Mutants' that do live here... They probably have some form of gills, and either have adapted to swim through boiling waters, or are rather tall and built to just wade through them. Any of them are Rare.
