So I thought of a possible solution. Praying to each deity on Their day of the week, so for instance Tyr on Tuesday, Odin on Wednesday, Thor on Thursday and Frigg on Friday. Monday I believe is for Mani and Sunday is for Sunna, I don’t know if I’m going to keep it like that or change it to another deity or not. Saturday I don’t think was named after anyone (although I’m sure people have dedicated Saturday to one of the deities, I just don’t remember who) so maybe I’ll have Saturday as a “rest” day. This way I can hopefully get a sense of each deity, maybe if They wish to speak with me more or something or for me to leave Them alone. I want to write out my own prayer for each, and since it’s a different deity each night, it’ll be a different prayer so it won’t become to repetitive to quickly. ((I’ll be using the same prayer each week till I feel it needs/should be changed.))

So I have a few questions I didn’t ask before about prayer. How do you end a prayer? Like, I guess this kind of goes hand in hand with San’s thread about formalities on how you start a prayer/ritual. Do you say anything specific; make certain gestures, re-center/ground? The few prayers I’ve made feel like they end like awkward phone calls where each person stops talking for a long moment and I just hang up without a word. I guess “Hail (deity)” would suffice, but what about prayers that have no words? When do you know when to stop? Is it just intuition? Do you feel something every time you pray to your deity(ies)? Or is it okay not to feel like you get a reaction? What kind of reaction do you get? I’m assuming it’s different for each person. I feel silly that I don’t know this, prayer seems such a simple concept but I have such a hard time grasping it, maybe because I grew up irreligious and no one ever really talked about it in my family.

Well, that was a lot longer than I thought it would be, or probably needed to be. I have a habit of explaining every small detail. Thanks for taking the time to read anyway.

Saturday was "Laundry Day". Well, "washing day", actually, I think, which could mean washing something else. Oneself, for example.

I tried the "pray to Them on Their day" thing for a few weeks, but to be honest, it didn't really gel with me. I felt a little like, for some of the deities, I was contacting Them too often, and that something more general would be more appropriate for day-to-day use. I didn't feel like They minded, just that when I was calling Them up all the time, we had less to talk about. It quickly got repetitive. But certainly worth a try. I used Saturday for a prayer to Whomever I felt like touching base with at the time.

I tend to end my prayers with "Hail!" and start them by laying my hand on my hammer. I still say "Hail!" even if the prayer itself was wordless, and I tend to bow slightly too, or touch my forehead, or kiss my fingers.

It's a real shame we don't have more prayers in the lore. The only one is that "Hail to thee, Day! Hail sons of Day!" one which I don't really like to use often because it asks for blessings.

I didn't know that, that's interesting.

I didn't think of that. But if I run into that issue I'll hopefully already be in the groove of things and can adjust accordingly.

When you lay your hand on your hammer is it just fingers touching the handle or do you grip the handle? Does it matter? Or just preference?

I agree. It's one of the reasons it felt awkward to use it for my daily prayers.

I got my new Mjolnir necklace today (picture) and I got a bonus gift as well. They sent me an Afghanistan lapis lazuli arrowhead necklace. I'm not sure why. Maybe as a "thanks for buying our wares" type thing, but the page doesn't say anything about it, nor did I see anything in the comments. Plus it's a pretty generous thank you gift since it's like two dollars cheaper then the actual item I bought. Or it could have been a mistake. My name was on the package though. I hope they didn't charge me for it. ._.

Damn, sorry I didn't answer your questions. I didn't see 'em sweatdrop

I rest my hand on it, more than my fingers. Sometimes I grip the head lightly, rather than the handle. I don't usually hold the handle tightly at all... if I grip the handle it's a very loose grip. But that's just me, that's the way I like to do it personally.

How's it going so far, anyway?

Love the pendant! I like Thor's goat at the top.

I wore my newer one out and about for the first time the other day. I've never worn it out before because it's quite heavy and visible, so it doesn't work with most outfits, but I felt like it fit.

Any particular reason to touch the head of the hammer instead of the handle? Sorry if it feels like I'm interrogating you, I don't mean to. I'm just curious.

Pretty good. I changed it to dedicating a week to a specific deity to start out to give me some time contemplating Them. I wrote out a prayer for Tyr the first night but haven't used it since, instead using more free form. The week of prayer to Tyr gave me the impression similar to a quiet understanding father figure.
This week is Odin. And oh boy. He is big, and intimidating. His presence was such a shock that first night I kind of stumbled over the last part of the prayer and cut it shorter then I had intended. sweatdrop

Thanks. That's what drew me to it as well. :] I just have to get a cord for it since I don't like the one it came with.

Not really. Nothing I've thought through, anyway. It just depends at the time whether I feel like touching the wood or touching the metal.

That might be a better way to go about it. Maybe I'll follow your example! 3nodding

That is pretty much my experience with both of those gods smile Odin is so overwhelming.

Because he's so overwhelming I want to be more prepared with an actual poem or something. But my poetry/writing skills are adequate at most, and as silly as it sounds I worry that He'll be like "Really? Come on, now."
And I'd rather use a poem done by me rather than someone else.

I have a question for someone that is more familiar with Odin.

The first night I prayed to Odin the reaction I got was intense. His presence is unmistakable. It's hard to describe the feeling, at first I thought maybe it felt condescending, but that doesn't sound right. Intimidating better describes it. But since then I've got no reaction. For Tyr the reaction was much more subtle but each night I felt confident He received my prayer. Odin, I don't get a "don't talk to me" vibe or an acceptance, or even that He received it. It's just silent. I'm not sure what to make of it. If He doesn't want anything to do with me or His silence is meant to tell me something. The only "something" I think it could be is I've been thinking a lot about Try even though my focus for the week is Odin. So maybe His silence is nudging me to go back to working with Tyr more. I don't know.

Well, my guess would be that the initial impression was an acknowledgment. He noticed what you were doing and let you know so. After that, there's not a lot of purpose to him paying that much attention. He wants nothing from you right now, and you're not asking for anything in particular from him so he's not paying a supreme amount of attention.

It is also possible that you are distracted by you thoughts of Tyr. After encountering both, you may feel much more comfortable with or drawn to what you felt from Tyr so your thoughts wander back to him, making a connection with Odinn unlikely at this time.

That makes sense, thanks Raven.
