Howl and Kali were enjoying a romantic dinner between the two of them. Their table was adorned with flowers and an expensive bottle of wine. Two candles lit up the otherwise low-lit five star resturant--
The two teenagers were talking over ice cream at their favorite ice cream parlor. Howl had wanted to take Kali somewhere nicer--she was a close friend of his, almost like an older sibling he actually liked. Not that he had much experience with older siblings. (Megan no longer counted; he rarely saw his older siblings on his mother's side, and Almie--well, she was scary.)
Kali, of course, being pregnant, was classified under the Potentially Dangerous category. Howl knew better than to upset her. She had tried to kill him several times already this year. So he had let her choose the place. "Like your icecream?" he asked smiling at his friend over his cone. Blackberry as always.

Kali paused mid-lick and smiled at him, nodding.
"Of course! Thanks for coming with me. Uncle Viktor hardly ever lets me leave the house, anymore." She chuckled. "I'm surprised he let me go with you. But, then again, you are adorable." She laughed, quickly swiping her tongue across a rogue drop of ice cream. She wasn't about to let it get her hands all sticky. That was grosss.
"I mean, it's bad enough I can't use my magic...I think I'd cry if I wasn't allowed outside..." She shook her head sadly.

"Of course he'd let you come with me," Howl said, almost smugly. He'd put on his best little boy act; having been positive of the fact that Viktor was almost as frightening as Adrian, even if he was only human. "I don't know if that trick would work as well on Sophie's dad, though. He'd probably know it was me." The wizard licked at his ice cream.
"And Kali, I'll always be here to rescue you from your tower," he added, with a slightly determined glint in his eyes. "I won't let them hold you captive. Who would I have ice cream with?"

"Sophie." She suggested innocently, smiling at him again. "You could totally have ice cream with Sophie."
She didn't mind going out with him, though, and laughed as he spoke so confidently.
"My Uncle's not too bright when it comes to magic. He's not used to it, so he doesn't automatically assume that it's been used. Plus, he's not on the look for adorable little boys. He's looking for teenagers. Like Lance." She dabbed at her face with a napkin.
"Of course, he didn't really stop THAT, so." she shrugged, tapping her free fingers against the table.
She wasn't actually aware of this, but at that very moment, Kali began to weave a spell. A curse, to be exact, and it swept across the table faster than she could stop it. She didn't know how it happened! But when it did go, she felt it happen, and swore.
"Oh, crap, Howl, duck!"

"Sophie..." Howl mused, before frowning in thought. "I don't even know if Sophie likes ice cream," he mumbled. "I vaguely remember taking her to a place in Wales... But I don't remember." The wizard's memory really was poor. He had only recently recalled the existance of Ingary--and Sophie for that matter. "Your uncle should be more careful," he added with a grin. "Adorable little boys grow up into dashing young men. Who knows? I might have brought you here to sweep you off your feet."
He didn't notice the curse Kali was weaving until it was too late. He ducked, but not quickly enough. The spell struck and took hold. The vain wizard first studied himself, making sure everything was in its proper place, and that his hair was the same color. "What did you do?" he demanded. "You're not supposed to do magic, it's bad for you!" He paused, and recognized the rhyme. Blue eyes widened in realizaton before he scowled. Even his thoughts were rhyming! He sounded like a children's storybook. "Now you've ruined all our fun. This will take ages before it's undone. Kali, I'll make you pay. Making me rhyme all day... If Sophie sees me like this, it'll be the end. You'll regret the day we called each other friend."

Kali's cone hit the floor as her hands abandoned holding it in favor of covering her mouth. A steady stream of curses (of the swearing kind, not the magical kind) came from behind said hands, muffled but there all the same. And, recognizable.
Her eyes widened in horror and she fell silent as she realized what had happened to Howl, her breath catching in her throat. Just barely, she managed to finally sputter out a response after about a minute of silence.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm sorry! I don't even know how I did that! I don't know that curse. Oh crap. Oh crap!" Perhaps it was the hormones and the stress mixing together, but this was turning into a very big deal for Kali. Her lip began to quiver and her eyes misted, and she waved her hands in front of her face much like a distressed valley girl.
"I'm sorryyyyyyy-" The high pitched whine was a product of her trying to hold her breath and keep back tears at the same time as talking. Really not a good idea, but she was trying valiantly anyways. "I'll f-fix it, I pr-romise!"
Not that she knew how. But, she could try!

Howl moved from his seat, realizing his mistake. He put his arms around Kali, and had to remind himself that pregnant women were incredibly easy to upset. He kissed her cheek. "Kali, this isn't a big deal," he said, summoning another ice cream cone and offering it to her. "A curse wouldn't change how I feel." He handed her the summoned ice cream cone and studied her face. "Sure the rhyming every sentence is pretty lame, but knowing us, we can make it a game."
He took her hand and gave it a squeeze. "Really, don't worry. It'll wear off on its own. It'll be gone by the time we go home. I can't do any spell," the teenager added. "It wouldn't turn out very well. And magic's not safe for you to do. So I'm not allowing you to."

Taking a deep breath, Kali nodded, squeaking only a little as Howl gave her a hug.
"O-okay." She managed, hugging him back before releasing him to wipe off the few tears that had managed to roll down her cheeks. When she looked up, he was holding a replacement cone.
She flushed, feeling much like a six year old. Never the less, she took it.
"Are you sure it'll wear off? I mean, there has to be some curse breaker that rhymes...right?" She wasn't one hundred percent positive, but she could have sworn there was. Some spells did rhyme, although not quite to the childish extent that many believed.

"A rhyming countercurse to break the to break the spell?" Howl rose an eyebrow, looking particularly doubtful. "I don't know. My memory still does not serve me well." He shrugged. Sophie would have been able to break the curse. She would have been able to tell his mind to stop working in rhyme. "Maybe we should wait," he suggested. "Since you've cursed me, consider this a date." He did so like dates, even if Kali was like the older sister he'd never had. (Well, he had older sisters--but--well. One was terrifying, and he ddn't know the others well).
"I don't know," he muttered. "I'm hoping it won't show. Finish your ice cream and then we'll see. How much your curse is effecting me."
