Background: Asukai was raised a family friend named Midoriko. The older woman was about 29 when Asukai turned 13. On her 13th birthday though, Asukai was accepted into the Academy. Midoriko became enraged and proceeded in trying to kill the young teen. In the process she revealed herself to be the Witch of The Black Flame. After she managed to push the teen down, Midoriko lashed out at her, sending a dark flame at the girl. She managed to dodge it but not without injury. As it hit, Asukai caught some of the blast in her face and lost her eyesight. In a panic, Asukai grabbed the nearest object, a chefs knife, and lashed out at Midoriko. Unfortunately, Midoriko caught the knife across her throat and collapsed into a bleeding mess on the floor. Asukai was both horrified and devastated. Her best friend tried to kill her, yet the womans blood was forever on her hands. After that, Asukai took up residence in the academy's dorms and started her training. After she graduated, Asukai began teaching as a combat/strategy instructor and has been teaching ever since.
