Dragon, Vanilla, Wolfen, and Teh_Plague have some good advice. For me, I have always found that helping someone else and getting myself out of the center of my universe helped more than anything.
Ever been to Joplin? There are lots of people who could use some help here. People who have lost everything, and family and friends to boot. Old people clearing their lots so that rebuilding can begin---and people coming whenever they can, some from the other side of the world, to help them----among them a couple in their 70's who are clearing lots in the heat EVERY DAY. They're not concerned about anything except helping someone else.
Try looking up "Joplin Tornado" on youtube, or the same thing on facebook. You'll see what trouble looks like in the here-and-now---and you'll see people helping each other, even finding their pets, pictures, and quilts. Local radio stations that went with solid storm coverage for days, helping people find help, lost family members, friends.
You can be a victim in this world, or you can be a survivor. It's up to you.

I think there are those who would delight in nothing more than to see you and others like you, strong, sensitive and intelligent people, throw in the towel because of the lack of good there is to see around us in our daily lives. It is easy to be thrown off of our paths of personal purpose when we find something that disrupts our cycles or makes us worry too much about what little insects we feel in the face of adversity. So if nothing else, keep on going just to spite those people who would like to see you fail and corrupt yourself in the name of never going to make a difference anyway. And you will have made a difference by not giving in to the pleasures of a self-centered world.

Maybe this is the best place to post this link....

Extreme Makeover Home Edition is building 7 houses in 7 days. Over 20,000 people from all over the country volunteered online to come help. Of course, that was far more than was needed, but those who were chosen have done an absolutely amazing and inspiring job! You can check out videos and info here, as well as live cams.
When I popped the hill there this morning in the dark, The blazing lights revealed houses! I laughed out loud! It is just WONDERFUL!!!
Habitat for Humanity has a 10-home build, and several churches from all over the nation have built homes here and there. The ground work is almost complete for Academy Sports (jumping up and down here!!!!!!!), Aldi officially opens tomorrow, a couple of smaller businesses as well as WalMart opening within the next 2 weeks. Waiting for Home Depot!

This one really shows you how much volunteerism is the key to success! I never watch this show, always thought that the network, and therefore, the big mouse, footed the bill for most of it. Boy, was I wrong!
