¤ Historical Account:tabBohemius, as with the majority of thieves originating in the Imperial City, was born in the Waterfront district. Both his mother and father were of Imperial heritage. His father, a former pirate who abandoned his love of the sea for the love of his sweetheart, worked at the docks in the Imperial City. His mother made her living tending to the family garden and sewing clothes for people in the same rut of poverty as them. Bohemius was by all means expected to follow in his father's footsteps. Not become a pirate and sail the seas or anything interesting like that. Just get a job at the docks unloading cargo for a few Septims a day.
tabNaturally, it did not work out that way at all. When he turned sixteen his father officially declared that his days of lying around home helping his mother with womanly chores and gallivanting around with the other poor children were over. He was to get a job at the docks with his old man and earn and honest living.
"So some day, we can move out of this dump."
tabAt this point in his life, Bohemius was frustrated enough with his lifestyle that he had developed the incredible traits of pessimism and cynicism. He didn't buy dear old dad's promise of a better life one bit. It was only expected, after all, how many tales of Waterfront citizens earning enough money to move out of that dump do you hear? So he signed on with the other peasants working the docks and began moving cargo about. This continued as usual for about three months before Bohemius was arrested and jailed for multiple accounts of thievery.
tabYou see, unlike his father, Bohemius was an incredible opportunist and very loose in his morals. He wasn't quite sure what his father had seen and done during his life as a pirate that he regretted enough to make him so uptight and constantly spewing nonsense about honesty and hard-work, but it clearly didn't pass on to Bohemius. As it turns out, ordering a dirt poor and starving teenager to move about crates full of valuable luxury items and food is not the best idea.
tabHe hung in there and resisted temptation for about two weeks. After that, it was like his birthday was everyday. He got all the food he could eat by pilfering the warehouse and a good amount of gold selling off luxury items on the street and to merchants in the market district. It wasn't until dear old dad caught his son breaking into the warehouse after hours that his spree was at an end. Bohemius was, in fact, reported to the guards by his own father.
You can only imagine how that made Bohemius feel about his parents and trusting people after that.
tabBohemius was sentenced to four years in the Imperial Prison in retribution for his crimes. Bohemius learned a lot in prison. For example, the guards don't play favorites, Valen Dreth is really annoying after a while, the slop mother used to make is not actually the worst meal in the world, and that every person in a guardsman armor is a complete and utter jerk. But among these, he actually developed a few handy skills. The inmates gave him tips on sneaking around, running away, and breaking into places. It was the best of times in terms of what he learned and the worst of times in terms of what he experienced. At age twenty, Bohemius was released from prison. He later learned that his father had died of bloodlung a year into his prison sentence and his mother was murdered shortly after when someone burglarized their shack.
So that's why they never wrote.
tabAt that point, Bohemius childhood home was converted into an unofficial dwelling for numerous homeless people. It was at this point, Bohemius had nowhere to go, no source of income, and no skills that would benefit him in the long run. Or, so he thought. A week after living on the streets of the Imperial City and pick-pocketing stupid rich people on their way to the arena for money, Bohemius was offered a place in the Thieve's Guild. Meaning food, shelter, and people who could appreciate his talents.
A number of accounts recall Bohemius crying tears of joy when approached by the recruiter.
tabFor ten years he served the Thieve's Guild and their agenda. He stole from the rich, gave to the poor, and all that good stuff. His skills were honed further and he achieved the rank of Shadowfoot. Due to his time in the prison being tormented by the guard, he very much did the same to them when he got out. He played numerous elaborate pranks on the Imperial Watch, reveling in their torment. He would have climbed further, his sheer skill and infamous pranks gave him a sort of reputation. Had it not been for a tragic accident.
tabWhat exactly happened remains a sort of mystery. Regardless, the end result was an Imperial Watch guard stabbed to death and Bohemius' subsequent expulsion from the Guild. Whatever it was, it left him completely mortified and he swore to himself he would never kill anyone or anything again.
tabIt was ironic then, that he was soon approached by the Dark Brotherhood with an offer for membership. Seeing as how he had nowhere else to go, he accepted. Though Bohemius actively refused to kill, he had no trouble helping others do the deed. He unlocked doors, scouted, and incapacitated those that might intervene or warn the guards. While at first wary of letting a quasi-pacifist within their ranks, the Dark Brotherhood eventually came to accept him within their ranks. For eight years, he served faithfully, honing his skills in hand-to-hand combat.
tabIt was soon revealed to the Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood that a traitor was in their midst, warning targets days before their contracts went public and making them impossible to find. Seeing as Bohemius was a polite, sympathetic sheep among merciless, bloodthirsty wolves, he was accused. While Bohemius didn't actually have anything to do with it, the Dark Brotherhood didn't really give him the chance to see his side of the story.
tabHe was taking a walk around Cheydinhal at night when they sent the first assassin for him. Needless to say, Silencer Urgutz Gro-Ulog will not be walking again any time soon. Or flexing his elbows. Or having a full set of teeth. Bohemius fled the city shortly after, heading as far away from Cheydinhal as possible. He wound up in Leyawin, where he joined the Fighter's Guild.
tabNow, he simply lives his life. Acting as any other Fighter's Guild member would. He's thwarted several more attempts on his life in the mean time (all in secret, of course.), remarkably never killing the assassin sent for him.
