Name: Boone
Nickname(s): Bo (to affectionate acquaintences only)
Age (Appearance Wise): Mid-twenties or so
Age (Actual): Who’s counting? About 10.
Personality:

Charming (+) - Boone would like to come off as that roguish, but dashing, young genius that you have the pleasure of knowing. He has a very upbeat, if occasionally bawdy personality. He might sweep a dramatic bow when you first meet, or greet you like a long-lost friend. He’s so pleased to meet you, and you look so lovely/dashing today! Almost everything has a bit of a dramatic flair to it, worthy of attention at the very least. Though he might not always practice them, he knows his manners, and he’s fairly good with measuring how welcome his attitude is. Really, though, isn’t energy infectious? Sure, he’s a wolf, but how can you be suspicious of him when he’s being so good to you? Most people tend to like Boone at face value, and if they don’t, he’s not opposed to flattering or buttering anyone up to feel welcome. Yes, he can be a little eccentric at times and, yes, that was a sexual innuendo, but isn’t he interesting?

Independant (+/-) - Boone feels the itch of wanderlust often, and mostly travels from place to place. While he prefers to spend his nights indoors in a comfortable bed, it’s not entirely necessary. Those patrons who take him in get his gratitude, but little more beyond one of the performances he’s perfected. He has many friendly acquaintences, but no close friends to whom he answers or confides. So far, it’s worked pretty well for him. He doesn’t go out of his way to help others and, in turn, doesn’t expect anyone to help him either. While it means that he can take care of himself in many situations, it also means that he’s inept at taking care of others, even if he wanted to. Boone can be lonely, but it’s one of those things he stubbornly shakes away, in the same way that he tears himself from a place that has brought him too much comfort.

Cunning (+/-) - This trait doesn’t always mean he’s very diabolical. The wolf just likes to get what he wants, and will scheme in a manner that will bring him results the quickest. He doesn’t want to pay for lunch, so how about you buy it for him, and he tells you a tale? If his charming personality or force fails him, he will turn to subtlety. What does he need to do, who does he need to be to achieve his goal? The answer is not often elaborate, but with Boone, it can be creative. Perhaps someone is not getting along with him, and he really needs to make this connection work - he’ll go ask the neighbors about his target and plot a course of action that will wholly flatter or creep them out. More often than not, this is a method of problem-solving, but on the occasion that someone strong employs his ire, it can act as a measure of revenge. Still young, most of his ploys don’t pan out the way he wished them to.

One can gather that Boone does not believe in getting or giving anything for free, and believes that others must be coerced to giving him what he seeks. He never sees things as an equal exchange as much as he considers them a successful ploy. He is suspicious of charity.

Cowardly (-) - Even if he can’t die, pain hurts. Boone usually tries to come off as the master of his element, and he’s not afraid to employ force when it’s necessary. When faced with a greater adversary in strength, however, he will back down. Not by thinking that his actions/thoughts are wrong, mind, but because he is afraid. When conflict arises and he can’t be sure of its worth, or if he can overcome it, he will run. The tale of the First Child is one he can admire, but a course of action he never plans to take, no matter how much he likes the City People, thank you! The wolf isn’t entirely loyal to anyone but himself, and doesn’t believe he can love anyone enough to sacrifice his well-being for them. The only exception to this rule would be something like a scene in a play that needs violence... Even so, he’d rather not be the receiver.

Determined (+/-) - If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Boone, like anyone else, doesn’t like to fail. Actually, he kind of takes it as a personal offense to his character. He may be prone to fits of depression or anger after a particularly bad misstep, but he’s always back to try again unless something else distracts him. This could be chalked up to simple stubborness or vanity on his part, but it has tended to bring him favorable results. Even if he had to run away from a fight... he’ll be back, albeit with a new and (hopefully) successful tactic.

Envious (-) - Boone is guilty of coveting. This trait is more of an internal one, one which can present itself as only a slightly sour or melancholy disposition. Though he knows, logically, he should congratulate those more wealthy, lucky, or talented, he can't help but sometimes imagine himself in someone else's shoes. When he sees someone successful, he is inclined to weigh them against himself and, if they win out, he wonders how he has not been granted the same graces. Surely he's just as deserving? Or if someone has something he wants as a possession, it can drive him to thoughts of theft or duplication. He follows through on these urges very rarely; more often than not, he convinces himself that he has the better life. It is an insecurity he is aware of, but can't rid himself of. It also makes him a bit protective of what he has, especially when it comes to attention. Everyone deserves their spotlight - just not when it's Boone's turn. There is no quicker way to garner his fury than to steal his limelight. He might not always adhere to this etiquette himself, though...

Thoughts on the Forest: It had once been a place where he wished to linger, unknowing and suspicious of the barren city outside. Now, he feels it offers nothing for him. He doesn’t fear it, but he’s got no intention of returning to that frost-covered land. Library City is his playground now.

Thoughts of Book Children: They’re fun, even if he’s just making them make some sort of noise at him. They can converse with each other and he doesn’t have to do so much work in reading, hum, sing, all sorts of fun things. Largely his opinion depends on the individual, but everyone has a potential of being roped into his shenanigans, at least once.

Thoughts on City People: His adoring audience. Sometimes. Boone considers them a little exploitable so far as their love for literature and knowledge go. On the occasion he wishes for company or a place to stay, he’s not beyond dropping in on a stranger and using the fact that he’s a book child as a means of getting those things. He expects to be welcomed by all City People, and to be able to win over any who hesitate to accomodate him.
Physical Appearance: Will fill this in once I see him fully.

History:
Boone dwindled long in the Paper Forest until a Guardian rather forcefully urged him out. Once in the City, he ate out of boredom and fell asleep in a barren home on a soft bed. When he awoke, he found himself watched by strange, shadow creatures that spoke in smokey sigils and kept him locked within the home he had once seen as barren.

After some initial fighting and conflict, Boone was urged into learning by being rewarded with more morsels. Needless to say, after a while he found reading and conversing quite enjoyable. He’s never looked back since.

Boone’s obsession with plays first began with his foster family, to whom he would read aloud before it was time for all of them to rest. He learned how to monitor his tone in such a way that he could dramatize a tale and have his viewers hanging on his every word. It was an attention that he greedily absorbed, praise that he came to expect. When he came to realize that he could also act out certain scenes -oh!- how entertaining that was, and how proud he was to think, for a moment, he could be characters of things he had come to love. He was soon sitting on piles of books in the middle city, preeching his favorite tales to the silent passerbys, garnering admiration from strangers so easily.

Happiness faded when the plague presented itself closer to home. Boone had heard only little the strange disease consuming the City People in recent years, devastation only present in the stories of the First Child. One day, he returned home to find his mentor out of sorts, and his foster family very nervous. Days went by, and the one who had encouraged and monitored his talent began to fade away.

Boone did not linger to see the end of his mentor - he left his foster home and never returned. Before this incident, the wolf had never felt impending loss beyond the bottom of a bowl, and it confused and frightened him. The concept of death brought deep mourning and fear. Wishing to never be confronted with that sort of pain again, he's been on the move ever since, never settling down long, never allowing himself to become too attached. He’s no longer a pup, after all. He can take care of himself in a land so docile it’s almost sickening.

Hobbies: Reading to an audience, rehearsing lines and scenes on rooftops, reading, traveling, finding people to mooch off of.
Birthday: TBA
Favorite Things: Being the center of attention, getting his way, a good meal, acting (and performing a role correctly, if he’s lucky), moonlight strolls along the rooftops.
Hated Things: Failure, having something stolen from him (fury like none other), having his acting insulted, being laughed at (when it wasn’t his intention), recognizing his shortcommings, being held down/back for too long.

Story: The Path of Pins and Needles
Favorite type of Ending:

By Woodroffe - He loves Red in this one, and the Wolf is doing a really convincing rendition of a hag, if he does say so himself.

By Adrienne Segur. Such a dapper b*****d. Oh. Red’s there too.

Dreams: To have a troupe of bookchildren to perform with him on a grand stage. He’ll need to be one of the leads, of course.

Honestly, he's pretty up for crit for anything minus the Envy portion of his app. I'm writing that portion up still.

wooo, I see a lady killer in his future =D

Charming: So Boone's the type of guy who likes charming people but hates when he fails. What does he do in those situations? Will he get angry or upset?
Independant: In a situation where he is helped, will he return the favor or take it for granted?
Cunning: The example you gave sounds a bit less cunning and a bit more clever. I usually picture cunning in the negative sense where there is a victim. Like the story about the fox and the crow where the fox tricks the crow to drop his food. In this case, Boone seems to provide a fair (in the eyes of the trader) exchange for his meal. Is he willing to go through trickery to achieve his goals?
Envious: If he sees something he wants from someone else, will he steal?

If I'm correct, his core personality seems to be geared self preservation and self interest. If there were a situation he's put in that weights his life over someone else's, he's always going to choose himself. Is this true even if it was a friend?

Also, I'm interested in his history. It seems he loves attention, but in his personality it says coward and under hated things it said being laughed at. Does he have a fear for being laughed it? If so, does it affected his performance?

I'm curious as to his relationship with Red ^___^ ( sorry, forgot the given name o___o;; )

Thanks for the crit, Tear!

Boone would like to look like a ladykiller, ok. He may be a total fail at it, though. We'll see!

He does tend to be a little ruffled or upset when he fails.

But he bounces back. He tries new tactics.

Independent - That's a really good question. I think it depends on the favor, but he's most likely to just be like 'thanks buddy' and brush it off. He may see it as exploitable, though, and have that person be a pal he comes to in times of trouble. Whether he returns the favor... that's up in the air. It depends what he's asked to do. If it's something like helping you pull up weeds in your garden, done deal. If it's break into a house and steal something for you, though... that's less likely to happen.

As for cunning, he's certainly not beyond trickery. Usually he tries to play it straight, but I could see him resorting to, say, stealing food from someone's plate when he tells them someone is looking for them. Something like that. If it's a more malicious goal, then definitely.

This is the usual rule for the method he will employ:

Quote:
The wolf just likes to get what he wants, and will scheme in a manner that will bring him results the quickest.

It's a flaw and a positive trait for him. It suggests he's able to think out of the box, but ultimately, yes, he is just trying to get what he wants.

Envious, he'll have thoughts to steal, but I don't think he's actually gone through with anything of that caliber yet.

Quote:
Or if someone has something he wants as a possession, it can drive him to thoughts of theft or duplication. He follows through on these urges very rarely; more often than not, he convinces himself that he has the better life.

Boone tries to come off as noble and exciting and clever, but yes, he is inherently very selfish. If it was between his life and a friend's, he's picking his life, every time. He doesn't love anyone enough to sacrifice himself. If it's a situation where he could help (with minimal amount of damage), though, he probably would.

Cowardly pertains to situations of violence only. He's not afraid to have attention. He likes to be in the limelight. He does hate being laughed at. I don't think he's scared to be laughed at, but it does get under his skin if that's not the reaction he was going for, if that makes sense? It could affect his performance, most definitely, but he is also very determined. If it were a situation where he was entertaining a crowd, and there was just one person laughing at him, he'd ignore them and continue on with the show. If the whole audience was laughing, though... lol, he'd storm off.

Regarding Red, Surr and I haven't plotted to have them know each other or anything. So I assume he doesn't even know she exists right now.
